I know this video is old but it helped me greatly, i am just putting together my first ever target rimfire gun and went with the Savage MKII FV-SR and a Boyds pro varmint stock. I also got a great deal on a new Vortex Crossfire II 4x24x44 scope .. i cant wait to get it out to the range

I recently bought the same gun and am contemplating buying this same Boyds stock. Where did you buy everything from? It’s at least $250 now for this upgrade right?

You should use your shop rag and make it real thin to go into the screw hole's to suck up any excess oil. A Q-Tip can leave fibers also. Otherwise nice job on your gun. 👍

When you stick your flash light in the front it’s never in the same spot. You don’t worry about it being off? Or is it parallax free so what you see coming out the back is what you get? Make sense?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
Yeah, you make sense, but I didn't see any issue. Even if the light shifts the image, It just moves it a little right or left, but it's still straight up and down.

I really like that scope leveling trick, Thanks! I also love the fat wrench, it has paid for itself several times already in stripped or loose screws. I made my decision to get one when I broke off a screw in a brand new set of rings and the screw would not back out. On a side note, is there any particular reason why you put the ring base nuts on the bolt side? I always put them on the other side to keep them out of the way but didn't know if there was a good reason to put them on the bolt side?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 6 лет назад
Once I started buying some more expensive scopes, I decided I had to have the Fat Wrench to mount them. I use it all the time. I have never know the correct way to put ring nuts. I have always put them on the bolt side. One thought is if you are carrying in a low ready against your body, they are less likely to snag against your clothing.

I love that trick for leveling the scope...I'm gonna re-check all my rifles now using that method.

Yeah it works very well. There is only a few videos on RU-vid showing this method.

Just got the B22 fv sr. Thanks for the instructions to mount the scope. Which scope did you mount? I got a Bushnell banner 2. I went ahead and got that cause it was cheap and has the features I wanted. If I don't like it I have some rifles from childhood that I'll put it on. I'm curious what is best for no more than 200$? Vortex or Nikon? Any one else have a banner 2?

Are the rails that come with the gun Weaver or picatinny?
@demitrisolvinski
@demitrisolvinski 4 года назад
I think Savage may have changed their process for attaching the scope rail because I ended up having to use a heat gun to loosen them. Stripped one screw head before realizing they used red loctite and had to drill it out. No damage besides the screw, but wanted to let the people know. Hope this helps someone!

Poor lighting. All the interesting stuff is in shadow from the overhead light. Could have been so much better.

Nice little rig you got there Josh. I had a CZ 452 American one time and it was a tack driver. Wish I would have kept it.👍🏻🇺🇸

Yeah those CZ's are pretty tempting. Next Zip Code uses a CZ 455 and cleans house with it.

Hey man I just found your channel and I'm liking your videos on the NRL22 stuff! I've got the same rifle/stock combo and I've got the same bipod coming in the mail next week. I'm curious how you mounted it to the stock, you need to put on a pic rail right?

There is a stud/pic adapter that I used. Here is the link on ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/Lion-Gears-Swivel-Stud-Picatinny-Rail-Adapter-AS-S2W03/232812155210?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I haven’t really looked closely at the SFP scopes. What made you you choose a SFP scope over a FFP?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 6 лет назад
They are generally cheaper and I'm use to them. I only have one FFP scope.
@lonz73
@lonz73 6 лет назад
SFP are just as good and sometimes have more elevation travel over the FFP model. Max zoom is generally where the hash marks are accurate, half of full zoom, or half of the indicated power, will double the graduations so more elevation can be held in the reticle vs using a FFP with what is in the reticle is it. SFP is also preferred for hunting as the reticle is always easy to see irregardless of the zoom setting.

One SWEET rifle! Josh, I would like to know why you chose the shorter barrel?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 6 лет назад
The NRL 22 uses a lot of barricades to shoot off of. The shorter barrel is easier to maneuver.
@timfarley6493
@timfarley6493 6 лет назад
Do you know if an 18-inch barrel is as accurate as a 20--inch? I have heard that too long a 22lr barrel is not as accurate as the shorter barrels, due to barrel harmonics.
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 6 лет назад
You get into barrel profile also. A shot bull barrel is more rigid than a longer one. So I don't really know. The 16.5" barrel is about 25fps slower than a 22" barrel. At 100 yards that is a couple moa difference.
@johnstewart8849
@johnstewart8849 5 лет назад
Tim Farley Olympic shooters want a shorter barrel, so the bullet is free as soon after trigger pull as possible. Most shooters today use scopes or red dots, so sight plane length is no longer an issue. Barrels used to be 21”, but now tend to be 16”. I created a “bloop tube” to mount my front peep sight aperture 5.5” in front of the SR threads....back to 21” radius on my Ruger Precision Rimfire....an olympic-style rifle for $500. I only have 25 yds to shoot, so use peep sights. Trying to put 5 in one hole...CCI Quiet 22’s. I always float one...so far.
