In this talk from the 2006 Grace Evangelical Society National Conference, Zane Hodges through a hypothetical dialogue between two college students, examines whether "saved" in Acts 16:31 may be understood as "safe for the time being" or whether "saved" must mean an eternal irrevocable salvation. In the follow up question and answer session, Zane answers many questions regarding the issue of eternal security and the gospel message.

I have a fear that’s been keeping me from experiencing peace. I’m from a place where Roman Catholicism is the main religion and, unless one decides to research and discover the true Gospel, they’re not going to hear it on tv, etc. especially if they can’t use the internet. Case in point: my grandmother is almost 96 and has been Roman Catholic all her life. I have reason to be almost certain that she has never, out of ignorance, heard the True Gospel. I keep thinking I should share the Gospel with her, because it terrifies me to think about her ending up in hell. She doesn’t have long left to live, and here’s what’s tearing me apart: because of toxic family dynamics, I am forbidden from visiting my grandma in person. I only talk to her on the phone, but here’s the other problem: she has a habit of keeping phone calls extremely short (I’m talking about a single minute, most of the time). This is how a typical phone call with her plays out: ME: Hello Grandma, this is *my name*, how are you?” HER: Is it you? Oh , hi, sweetheart, I’m glad you called, are you doing okay?” ME: “I’m fine, Grandma, but how are you?” HER: “I’m okay/not so well, however she’s feeling. ME: I’m glad to hear that/I’m sorry (depending on the situation) HER: bye bye honey *hangs up* Oftentimes, I’ve realized I was still speaking after she’d hung up. The few times I’ve managed to add “I love you, Grandma”, I already heard no reply or the phone like disconnected few seconds later. What do I do? If I don’t share the Gospel with her, am Iresponsible for sending my Grandma to hell? If she truly has never heard to out of ignorance, will God save her? And I won’t hide the fact that, although I thought I was Saved, now I think that I might not be, because I’m getting these thoughts about losing my Salvation over sending my Grandma to hell. I’m really sorry for writing so much. I’m obviously in pain. I’m still young in my faith (though I’m in my 40s). I need to know what the Word says will happen to both my Grandma and me. It doesn’t matter if it’s bad, I just need to know the truth.

When time is short, you should present the core or bulls-eye of the saving message found in John 3:16 or John 6:47, that whoever believes in Jesus has everlasting life. In other words, Jesus gives everlasting life to everyone who believes in Jesus for everlasting life. Here is an article that you may also find helpful: "Does It Really Depend on Me?" by Mike Lii faithalone.org/grace-in-focus-articles/does-it-really-depend-on-me/

Amen. John 6:47. God cannot lie. John 3:18. Romans 3:26-28. For He is the just and the justifier to them that believe in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. You cannot boast in a free gift that we did nothing for but believe on Jesus for the free gift of everlasting life. If we could lose it, it would not be eternal. And if we could earn it, Jesus died for nothing. The GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE. Romans 6:23. A gift is paid in full by the giver. A reward is something you earn or work for. A GIFT is free. If you have to do something to get a gift, then it was not a gift, it was something you earned. John 3:18. Believers are no longer condemned, but unbelievers are condemned already, because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. First John 5:13. These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Acts 16:31. Period. John 3:16. Jesus said it, we believe it, and that settles it.

Satan's masterpiece of deception is best served under cover of "Christian" terminology . Far more are blinded via belief in the "perseverance till death in an unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavior (works)" concept , than belonging to the Church of Satan . The "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" methodology understands this all too well .

So it seems like we are back to the position held by many mostly calvinist theologians that children can't be saved. Does it count if someone believes they will go to heaven if they believe on Jesus? Is that the same thing as believing they have everlasting life?

If she doesn't know anything about eternal security she isn't saved. The apostle Paul said that if we think our faith is only for this life and not eternal life, then our faith is useless and we should be pitied above all people. If it doesn't affect us after we die, what is the purpose? If it's only for this life on earth, we might as well have no faith at all.

It is true that people couldn't be saved under the Law alone, but Jesus didn't die on the cross to free us to sin. It is ridiculous to believe that Jesus didn't have a better plan than to make sin legal so that we can be saved. Deceived Christians are believing that Jesus had no other way to save us than to allow sin as a way to bring Salvation. In truth, when he died on the cross, he was able to send the Holy Spirit, who is able to transform us to true righteousness so that we can obey God’s laws and be saved. We must be Born Again and converted to righteousness. Since the beginning of the bible sin was never allowed. Decieved Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to change that and to allow human beings to continue to sin, and grace would remove the penalties for breaking his laws. This would only allow people to destroy themselves with sin, because over time, sin hardens the heart. Sin causes blindness. Sin destroys the human conscience. That would not be grace at all. Deceived Christians believe this is God's only solution for Salvation. They are wrong. God does not leave us in a sinful state, because it would destroy us both mentally and spiritually. Rather, God's grace is that he blesses us with cleanliness and righteousness so that we can live a free and happy life. False ministers interpret the bible with the ignorance of mortal men, and they teach these things as truth. Covering up sin is like sweeping more and more dirt under the carpet and leaving it there. This is man's way, not God's way. Blind Christians dont understand that God's ways are higher than the ways of human beings.

What Eric should have said to Jason was read Acts 16:31 slowly And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. It does not say you are saved now, it says you will be saved. Believe means as long as you continue believing and obeying God. It doesn't say that you are saved now, it says thou shalt be saved meaning it is conditional by truly believing you will truly obey what Jesus says.

To add works to grace is to pervert the gospel which is all grace apart from any works. Romans 11:6. It is you who pervert the gospel and add works to grace. Romans 4:5. Romans 3:26-28. Those who boast in their works have not done the will of His Father in heaven. But in the last days there will come boasters of themselves. They detest salvation by grace apart from works. It gives them nothing to boast in. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace ye are saved, through FAITH, and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, NOT OF WORKS, LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST.

@2Chronicles714_
@2Chronicles714_ Год назад
@John C Nobody is saved by a claim of belief. (James 2:19) (Matthew 7:21-23) The gospel call to faith presupposes that sinners must repent of their sin and yield to Christ’s authority.” In other words, a sinner who refuses to repent is not saved, for he cannot cling to his sin and the Savior at the same time. And a sinner who rejects Christ’s authority in his life does not have saving faith, for true faith encompasses a surrender to God. Thus the gospel requires more than making an intellectual decision or mouthing a prayer; the gospel message is a call to discipleship. The sheep will follow their Shepherd in submissive obedience. Jesus’ repeated warnings to the religious hypocrites of His day as proof that simply agreeing to spiritual facts does not save a person. There must be a heart change. Jesus emphasized the high cost of discipleship: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27), and “Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (verse 33). In the same passage, Jesus speaks of counting the cost; elsewhere, He stresses total commitment: “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says that eternal life is a narrow path found by “only a few” (Matthew 7:14); in contrast, some seek to broaden the path so that anyone who has a profession of faith can enter. Jesus says that “every good tree bears good fruit” (verse 17); in contrast, some say that a tree can still be good and bear nothing but bad fruit. Jesus says that many who say “Lord, Lord” will not enter the kingdom (verses 21-23); in contrast, some teach that saying “Lord, Lord” is good enough. Paul and James taught that a true profession of faith will be backed up by evidence of faith. If a person is truly following the Lord, then they will obey the Lord’s instructions. A person who is living in willful, unrepentant sin has obviously not chosen to follow Christ, because Christ calls us out of sin and into righteousness. Indeed, the Bible clearly teaches that faith in Christ will result in a changed life 2 Corinthians 5:17 Galatians 5:22-23 James 2:14-26

@jim kraft No Jesus makes it very clear in Matthew 7:21-23 And Matthew 25:1-12. In both cases they clearly believed in Jesus but like you thought they could serve sin instead of having a intimate relationship with Jesus. He doesn't "know" those who die as unrepentant sinners. John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. Since you refuse to repent you don't obey and therefore you're not a believer.

They were not saved because they never did the will of His Father in heaven. John 6:40 and John 6:29. Not every one who said unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter the Kingdom of heaven but He who does the will of my Father in heaven. Acts 16:31. John 6:40. And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have eternal life, and I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY. John 5:24. John 3:18. John 6:47. You try to make it as though John taught different than Jesus. Mark 6:11-12 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

You HAVE TO interpret the book otherwise it would prove you to be a liar. I never said I have no sin. I was a sinner, now I cannot, because I am born of God. You deny scripture. You continue to say, this verse doesn’t mean what it says. But you cannot answer for it… 1Jn 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
