As someone who listened to Jimmy Swaggart regularly he did not preach works. If he would have died in that sinfulled condition he would not have been allowed in the Kingdom of God. I remember vividly Jimmy repenting of his sin he was involved in. He absolutely was a true believer as only a true believer would confess his sins and he did right by God doing it publicly. Psalms 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Psalms 38:18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. As for the man who died of a heart attack who was an outspoken atheist there is no way that he made it to heaven even if as a child he went to Bible vacation and learned John 3:16. Psalms 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Imagine on judgment day standing in front of God and hoping that God will say good job in your childhood saying you believed in me but as an adult denying my existence to everyone you knew. He will hear those dreadfull words I never knew you depart from me. The key word in John 3:16 & John 6:47 is Believeth which doesn't mean one time otherwise it would say whoswoevoer believed which would be past tense. Scripture says we must persevere in the Faith till the end to be saved. An explanation of abiding in Christ is found in John 15:1-8 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my The branches who “abide” in Him are the truly savedthey have a real and vital connection to the Savior. The withered branches who do not “abide” in Him are the unsaved pretenders who feigned an attachment to the Vine but drew no life from Him. In the end, the pretenders will be seen for what they were: hangers-on who had no authentic attachment to Jesus. For a while, both Peter and Judas seemed identical in their walk with Christ. But Peter was attached to the Vine; Judas was not. John restates the withered-branch principle this way: “They [people now opposed to Christ] went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us” (1 John 2:19). One of the proofs of salvation is perseverance, or sustained abiding in Christ. The saved will continue in their walk with Christ (see Revelation 2:26). That is, they will “abide” or remain in Him. God will complete His work in them (Philippians 1:6), and they will bring forth much fruit to the glory of God (John 15:5). Those who fall away, turn their backs on Christ, or fail to abide simply show their lack of saving faith. Abiding is not what saves us, but it is one of the signs of salvation. Proofs of abiding in Christ (i.e., proofs that one is truly saved and not just pretending) include obedience to Christ’s commands (John 15:10; 1 John 3:24); following Jesus’ example (1 John 2:6); living free from habitual sin (1 John 3:6); and the awareness of a divine presence within one’s life (1 John 4:13). The catholic lady was correct we must obey. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 IN FLAMING FIRE TAKING VENGEANCE ON them that know not God, AND THAT OBEY NOT the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ 9WHO SHALL BE PUNISHED WITH EVERLASTING DESTRUCTION from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power. 1 Corinthians 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons 2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription “The Lord knows those who are his, and, “EVERYONE WHO CONFESSED THE NAME OF THE LORD MUST TURN AWAY FROM WICKEDNESS.” Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him being abominable and disobedient, and unto every good work. 1 John 2:4 He that saith I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

He said a lot but is he SAVED by the ONLY WAY God Will accept for entrance into heaven? The finished and completed work of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation

Where does it say we are saved by the finished and completed work of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, as I have never seen that in scripture?

@@Over-for-now Luke 13:3 Jesus said if we don't repent of our sins we will perish (meaning hell, not loss of rewards or dying early. ) The only acceptable way to salvation according to Jesus is repentance of sin AND confessing Him as Lord James 2:19 - you say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! The demons also believe this, and they tremble in terror. satan even tempted Jesus with Psalm 91 when he was in the wilderness. Even the devil can quote John 3:16, that's not going to save you, and if you actually believe that that's all it takes to be saved and become an adopted son or daughter in Christ, I'm really scared and sad for you.

Did Zane Hodges believe that God elected (chose) certain individuals to be saved and others to be lost? In other words, was he a Calvinist?

Bob will have to answer that question what Zane said that God decides who has everlasting life or not. It sounds like Zane was somewhat of a Calvinist to me.

@alvinfen4511 Yet Bob said that he didn't agree with Zane, and that he didn't agree with him that God elects people to everlasting life. So what was Zane talking about ?... hello!. We need a strait answer over this matter from Bob himself. This is confusing what Zane said and give us the fact, and that maybe Zane was a type of Calvinist / but not a five point Calvinist, maybe a Luke warm one ?. Kind Regards

Many Free Grace Believers (babes) have been known to fall into Calvinism, Arminian and Lordship churches after they believed, but sadly fallen into a wrong church who preach false doctrines, but still saved. Zane did preach and teach Jesus for everlasting life and was saved, but this is confusing what Bob said and need to find out. God doesn't elect who has everlasting life. It's for anyone who will listen and believe the saving message in John 3:16. Who ever believes. God Bless

Hodges did state that he held to Unconditional Election ("U" in TULIP), although it is not clear what his view of Unconditional Election was. But whatever Hodges' view of Unconditional Election was, it was not satisfactory to most 5-point Calvinists. Hodges was clear, that he was not a Calvinist, and it is clear in his writings that he did not hold to any other parts of TULIP, Total Depravity, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints in TULIP. On Unconditional Election, Hodges wrote the following regarding a Calvinist critic (Michael Horton) of his: ""Denying the doctrine of unconditional election (“this tragic error,” Hodges calls it) and the effectiveness of God’s grace in granting faith, the author adds. . ." [p. 17; italics added]. This is also an untrue statement. I [Zane Hodges] say nothing in Absolutely Free! about the doctrine of unconditional election (the so-called second point of Calvinism). As a matter of fact, I hold to that doctrine, though probably not in a form to which Horton would give his approval." See article called The New Puritanism Part 2: Michael S. Horton: Holy War with Unholy Weapons faithalone.org/journal-articles/the-new-puritanism-part-2/ Hodges was clear that he did not consider himself a Calvinist. He wrote regarding another Calvinist critic of his (John Gerstner): "Gerstner is also right, I believe, in his claim that dispensational theology and Reformed theology are essentially incompatible. In Gerstner’s view, no one can be a true dispensationalist and a Calvinist (= “Classical Calvinist”) at the same time. Rather effectively he shows that dispensationalists have normally rejected or modified all of the so-called “5 points of Calvinism.” The reviewer wonders why anyone would wish to plant his foot in both theological camps. The doctrinal divide between them is enormous and essentially unbridgeable." See article called: Calvinism Ex Cathedra: A Review Of John H. Gerstner’s Wrongly Dividing The Word Of Truth: A Critique Of Dispensationalism available at: faithalone.org/journal-articles/a-review-of-wrongly-dividing-the-word-of-truth/
