I was watching U tube videos to try and find out how to do multiple trim band in different colors without the bump of a knot or a twist. I had this video from awhile ago and I'm so glad that I found it again. Your methodology is spot on. Easy to follow clear and to the point. Thank you!! Anyway while watching videos I came across another one of yours in which you make mention of a Veterans program called Project Healing Waters. I couldn't believe that you mentioned them. I am a Vet in Florida that is trying to help out with the program here to build Fly Rods I love thread art and welcome your wealth of knowledge on the subject. I'm new to rod building and I have always been fascinated with rod wrapping. I love this design and can't wait to try it myself! Do you coat the bottom (gray) thread with anything before doing the decorative wraps? Thanks for the very informative and inspiring video!

I trim them off with a very thin razor blade, then burnish the main thread back over the tiny bit showing.

docski377 if you don't use the loop to pull the inlays through, how do you clip them short enough to be hidden without cutting the other threads? Thanks!
@docski377
@docski377 5 лет назад
I think somewhere in my videos I show it pretty good but it is simple. I lay a razor blade on the flat wrap next to the inlay thread sticking out. Get it close to the inlay thread then pull up on the inlay and against the blade. The flexable thin double edge Wilkinsons seem to be the best unless you have the ability to get #11 Surgical Blades. Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really try to make rod building fun and help others thru some of the learning curve a little faster. When I started building it was hush hush then I broke the dam and created a couple professional videos and let the dogs out. When I produce one of these short videos I try to do the best I can but sometimes get thumbs down and it bothers me. Oh not that I think everything I do is perfect(far from it) but that the folks not liking them dont help me by making comments that would help me improve them. OH Well. I was married to a wonderful woman for over 30 years, had two children. A fantastic boy who seem destined to be a success at EVERYTHING and a daughter who tends to make life a challenge for everyone around her. The Ex and I are still best buddies but realize living together is poisonous to both of us. So Now I seem to be married to fishing. Yep I am ex military 22y 9m 3d and some hours. Retire HMC. Two tours with the Marines gave me the nickname Doc. I bleed red, white and blue. If you follow me on FB you will see that for sure. If you are curious I am James Labanowski from South El Monte but my son is also James Labanowski actually I think it is James Angelo Labanowski Jr. but you wont be confused if you look us up. He is young and a hunk and I am old and worn out. lol You might want to friend me because some stuff about fishing and rod building dont make it to my video channel or Doc Ski Rods page but do make it up on my FB personal page. Again thank you for the wonderful comments and your service to our great country.
