I’m glad to see more of us still building the old small blocks, I just hope the new to the small blocks listen to us.. I’m in the middle of doing a training and we came across your video, the problem I’m having with newer generation is they seem to be in a hurry, then they wonder what happened 😃.. great video you picked up another follower 👍
I’m 31 and have fully restored my 78 Chevy K10, and I owe it all to videos like this. I’m still dialing in my engine, and these videos are so helpful. Hoping to keep the knowledge alive.
@@ThrottleStopRacing No, you don't know me. I have been watching your vids since you did the dragster coupler. I bought a chrysler 8.75 rearend and it was set up for a dragster. I never seen that set up before and was trying to understand why it didn't have a universal yoke. Your vid showed me and you responded to my questions. Been watching you since.
Exhaust opening, Intake closing. Easy peasy. This ensures you’re on the base circle of the cam. also move pushrod up and down when getting to zero lash Spinning can give you false reading A you mentioned, there are many ways folks set the valves. To each his own. P.S. Now I always disassemble each lifter prior to assembly, to ensure they are not stuck. I’ve run into the same issue you did in the past.
This is why I'm not a huge fan of hydraulic lifters or roller sets, Too many moving parts prone for failure. I'm a fan of solid flat tappets. Sure it may require more attention to valve lash and regular adjustments but they sound great and they work. This build looks great though, good catch with the lifter. I hope the rest went well.
if this happens to anyone please take a few minutes and disassemble the lifter and see if its a simple fix before you waste your time waiting for new parts. i bet it was just a burr.and then u can get on the road faster. but good video sir i think you should try vicegripgarages way of adjustmenting valves its easy as pie
I thought you were not suppose to have self adjusting rockers with guide plates. Its suppose to be either or. Guide plates and no self adjusting rockers or self adjusting and no guide plates. You have both. is that ok to do.
its actually better oiling engine after 0 lash and the 3/4 turn. less chance of a collapsed new lifter.. u actually get better 0 lash when they are oiless. once all are done then u want to spin the oil around to fill them up
Would you please list what engine you have with parts used. So i may build this engine. Thanks Love your videos please dont stop for i have a 1962 chevy c10 short bed im working on, which was my great grandfatehrs.
Ask 10 mechanics how to adjust hydraulic rockers and you get 10 different answers. I just use solid lifters and I've been using solids for forty years.
From years of experience you don't soak your rockers..... And you do not soak solid lifters...some oil on the side of the lifter is OK. And setting valve lashes.on a high powered motor one full turn is fine once you have taken up all the slack. 😎
Great info to this point, but with a lost cam card, roller lifters, roller rockers and poly-lock nuts, but this engine has comp solid lifters for unknown cam but low enough lift, it does not require head work or fancy bee-hive springs. I hate guessing but it is going to 18 & 20 thousandths cold. Lock down and call it a day. Yes, younger family member who 10-12 years ago had a block at a speed shop! They both and no paperwork. The speed shop does, but it does not pay money to look thru storage for a 10+ years old file for taxes even. The are lazy and he is stupid! Now my problem. DK, ASE master tech since 78, retired.
After running my engine for awhile after break in, I noticed some misfiring and back firing. Pulled the valve covers off and the roller rockers are extremely loose to the point that they aren’t opening and closing valves. Does anyone know what I did wrong? I set it to zero lash just like this.
So SAD! Manufacturing in this country is collapsing \, more and more do i see defected garbage being sold. The idea of doing the best Job you can do and taking pride in your work has greatly declined. Come on America get your SHIT together man- step up!
