Hey Scott!! A tip for your jig to keep epoxy or other goop from sticking to it. Clear (I use 3M) packing tape. Nothing sticks to that stuff.

Man Scott, Im speechless. I painted as a pro in the avaition field for years on news helicopters with huge color fade logos on the sides of each one. The clear coat can spray you suggested was uncanny good...get it. Wow. It came out gorgeous. It laid down better than PPG w all of the temp stages, and no runs. Ill make a video of it on the bench, but I'd like to show pics if possible. Thanks again!

Old Flier, You left me hanging with your first comment... Why are you speechless? But about the clear coat, I appreciate hearing that you've had good results. I'm still hesitant, but your experience helps a little bit. Keep watching the videos and who knows, maybe I'll put a rattle can clear coat video in there somewhere

Hei, your videos are really cool. I like building things self made! Could you do a full theory video about angles geometry and things related to this. I want to start my own build but don't want stick something together without having a clue about the background.

I think I've touched on those things one at a time in the different videos, but you're right that I've never done a separate video solely about setup. I'll do it, soon as this boat is done

Scott. What size motor are you going to be putting in the boat? Where you getting the motor and drivetrain from?

This one will have a .67 nitro engine from CMB, with a solid wire driveline from Brent Byers. Keep watching and you'll see it all over time

Eh? The sponsons are the same. At some point in the video I overlay the chines, but only to show the area that needs to be removed to make them identical. Glad you're enjoying the videos... Now go build a boat!

The sponson transoms? They're the same, but both are quite different from the originals. Maybe you noticed one of the new ones together with one of the originals at some point. You must have missed the video where I show how to make the new ones we will be using.

Does the charred edges from the laser cut that get epoxy need cleaned up before assembling with epoxy to get a good bond?
@M5PerfHydros
@M5PerfHydros Год назад
That's a really good question. Truth is I don't know if it makes a difference, but whenever I think of it I do sand those areas lightly prior to applying epoxy

G'day Scott. Mate I've been lovin' watching your videos there's no bull sh..dust just good old very well done tutoring. Great mate. I have been looking at other site's on the internet and came across in my saved titles an RC boat from Blazer Marine called a Whiplash Gen 3. Do you know anything about them. It is the style of boat kit I'm looking for and have been for a long time. We don't have anything like these here in Australia in fact it's similar to the one your building now. I'm watching you as I'm writing this message. I watched another of your videos and you were building your own design. I would be happy if and when you've tested it if you would be selling kits or even plans. It looks a beast. I'm not looking at racing or anything at the moment but just outright hooning on a beautiful little mountain lake we have close buy just for fun. Being an old rev head in boats [used to race them years ago] I came across the Arrowshark twin prop shaft counter rotating gear box. Now we're talking,,, two props. Do you know much about them or have you ever fitted one into a boats and how did it go? When I eventually get a kit of some sort I am definitely going to be watching your videos while I'm building the boats and all the set up's. Most informative and exact stuff ever.Excellent tips and pointers.. Bloody great stuff mate. Thank you.
@M5PerfHydros
@M5PerfHydros Год назад
Thanks CC! I've not built any of the Whiplash boats, but I hear they're awesome. Of course, if I ever did build one I'd probably totally change the entire design, and ruin it! Go for it... What's the worst that could happen?

@@M5PerfHydros G'day Scott. I'm getting no response from Blazer boats so I have decided to go it myself. I don't know if you have seen the New Zealand unlimited hydro's but I have done a bit of a design similar to them. There's also a few bloke's here in Aus that also run them with huge success. These things look awesome in and on the water so I thought I'd do a Scott and have a go. My question to you is, if you don't mind. This is all unfamiliar territory for me but I've been a marine tech for 56 years and never got into the models. Raced lots, cost heaps and had a ball doing it. My question is. Should I build the sponsons in scale that is wide flares or should they be narrowed down to minimise kiting. I'm looking at a CMB .80 for the power so it is going to be quite stable well I hope it is. You've got the bug to bite me and I'm itching to get started. Appreciate any help. Thanks. From Aus.

@@M5PerfHydros G'day Scott. I watched your video where you came up with a prop tube support off the engine and you were talking about it moving and you don't like silastic. Neither do I. It causes engines to blow if you use it wrong. Disasterous shit. "Sealing the tube into the bottom of the boat". I had a brain fart. Well it might not work. Instead of using silastic aroung the tube through the hull why couldn't you adapt a control rod bellows like the ones you use on the servo box exits and transom hole. That would allow your tube to move all it wants and not have any contact with the hull - hole. Just a thought it would work similar to a log gland in a speed boat. I'm going to email your mate to get some gear off him.
@chriscorrigan7420
@chriscorrigan7420 Год назад
@@M5PerfHydros G'day again. Just in case you don't understand what I am meaning Use the bellows around the shaft tube and attach it to the boat somehow. I'll leave you alone now.
@M5PerfHydros
@M5PerfHydros Год назад
I get what you're saying, but I think a little more support than just those rubber bellows is needed. But hey... Why don't you try it and let me know if it works! 🏁🏁

Ya I don't know. I mentioned it to him the last time I built this boat years ago, and I kinda expected the problem to be fixed, but, ya, it's not. Maybe now after these videos?

Why is there a curved downward deck section after the rear sponson bulkhead?
@M5PerfHydros
@M5PerfHydros Год назад
This boat is a scale replica of an actual unlimited hydroplane from the 80's called The Eliminator. The dropped sponson idea was the brainchild of Les Staudacher, the builder
