Great music vibe with that slow Sax line over the uptempo beat and I’ve learned a couple utility features if they’re applicable in the iPad version which I love! Comprehensive video too.

This is a great Scaler 2 Video - thanks for sharing this! Also, think you should do another supporting video about the Midi CC Messages for the Performances, this may be one of the most powerful features of using Scaler in the studio, live, or via streaming performance. Truly, this could revolutionize the idea of studio vs. Live and integrate into something totally new - one person can perform live and record this fresh jamband approach and release it as a LIVE Studio Version of a song. Truly Breathtaking - thanks again for this video!!!!!!

Nice sounding song you're building there and great tutorial on workflow with Scaler. I use Reaper and haven't tried it with automating Scaler yet but hopefully it's similar to how you did it with Ableton.

At 6:00 you are replacing the chord from the actual suggested point (highlighted one) - however in David's videos, he uses SUGGEST to replace the chords that FOLLOW the point of suggestion. So, I'm confused by the discrepancy and it would be nice to clear this up since this is not explained in the manual.
@SchoolofSynthesis
@SchoolofSynthesis Год назад
Hi @alain, Davide and Tristan are both suggesting from the selected chord. In this instance Tristan is deciding to replace the chord rather than add to it whereas Davide is suggesting a chord to go to. Both are different applications that work. So you can do either really. It's experimentation. To be clear, Scaler is suggesting the NEXT chord but you could replace the current chord or add to the progression. Both work. Hope that makes sense.

Great tutorial. I copied your track and was able to replicate everything that you did. Instead of assigning a MIDI CC # I loaded a piano sound onto another track and drug the MIDI into a clip for the intro and the verse, primarily so that I could tweak the pattern. The only difficulty I had was the key switches on the Session Horns Sax(Kontakt). For some reason I cannot access those keys and I have an 88 key MIDI controller. Strange. I have to figure that one out. Thanks. I will be using/exploring Scaler 2 more often now.

Are you using VST3? I seem to remember there's a problem with CC passthrough, Try VST2. See this thread forum.scalerplugin.com/t/send-midi-cc-passed-to-other-virtual-instruments/4650/5

5:03 How does Suggest work? Specifically, based on what does it suggest new chords? Does it look only at the chord currently highlighted in yellow in panel C, or does it consider its neighbouring chords too? Or even the whole progression up to the highlighted chord? Same question for the "Minimize movement" option, what chord does it consider to be the origin of the movement to minimize: the highlighted chord ("I want a substitution that keeps a similar voicing with the chord I'm replacing") or the one just before it in panel C ("I want the final chord progression itself to have minimal movement")? The logic is a bit different. The wording "movement" makes me think it's the second interpretation that it correct, but the UI layout (with the yellow highlight) makes me think it's the first one. Because I've watched quite a few Scaler videos and it's still not clear for me if its workflow is more progression-oriented or substitution-oriented. Both are fine, but I sorta need to know which is more in line with Scaler's logic so I can work with the tool and not against the tool.
@SchoolofSynthesis
@SchoolofSynthesis 2 года назад
It's a little more complicated than that in that it is what it it does algorithmically, yes in a nutshell it suggests based on voicing of the selected chord but it does analyse all of the chord sets within scaler to look at existing relationships. So it pivots from the last chord but it considers all of the chords. You can't work against the tool but you can certainly figure it out. Check out forum.scalerplugin.com there's some discussions going on there, also the manual has a good description too.

Give it a free trial run Gareth. You may see the point! Scaler is there to augment your musical intuition not generate it, it is used by many of the worlds top artists and composers whom are extremely talented and successful without scaler.
