Hello Preloaders!! Welcome to lesson #3. In this lesson, I will again be addressing the fear of dropping the motorcycle during slow speed motorcycle riding maneuvers and reiterating the need to TRUST AND BELIEVE that as long as you have power going to the rear wheel, you will not drop your motorcycle.
There is also some home security bonus footage to follow the lesson!
You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

Thank you for everything you teach and share. I met a motorcop at our local Harley dealer in Tacoma, Wa. He had been riding for several years and currently on his road king. He told me that he had to be retested through the cone course every 3 months. He also told me that he has issues on his u-turns. I told him about your videos and that we practice. When he found out that I just started riding a few months previous and now ride not only a Heritage, but also a street glide he literally bowed down to me. He said that he would definetly look your videos up. So, your practice sessions are reaching out to the motor officers and general motorcycle public in Washington State. Thank you again. I am the boss of my motorcycle!!!

This is a good training program. I watched bunch of your video. Haven’t had a chance to practice. I used to go straight crossing the road and come around the block because I was afraid to make the right turn from back of my house because there is a down slope into the street. Today is the first time I been able to take out the bike. Because I spent several hours and days watching your videos, I went out today and made that right turn like a pro. I wasn’t using the rear brake before.

Hi Robert, I love your videos. I am a fan of ride like a pro since about 3 years ago. I have been practicing slow speed skills a lot to were I can do the figure 8, slow cone weave 18 foot key hole and all the patterns that were in the ride like a pro video . I came across your video when you were showing on how to recover from dropping your motorcycle. Well, back in October of 2020. I was doing some drills and when I did my keyhole I came around and I put my foot down from dropping. My foot got caught under my saddle bags and I had severe ankle sprained. Went to ER and nothing was broken. However, I had an MRI done and the result was three partially torn ligaments and a bruised bone. It has been over two months and I am able to walk with out crutches. I go back next week to the orthopedic. I wanted to share this with you to maybe help someone to be more careful and to stay within there skills. I am grateful that it wasn’t has serious and also to you for putting instruction on how to prevent from dropping your motorcycle. Thank you so much, Leslie

Hi Leslie. I was smiling ear to ear when I first started reading your message and then I got further in. I’m very happy to hear that you were practicing and I’m very sorry to hear about your accident. I want to thank you sharing that story with me (us). The same thing happened to me in motorcycle school. The damage wasn’t as severe as yours but my ankle was messed up for over a week. The other funny thing is I was just telling the guys at the practice session today what could happen if you put your foot down. Especially on a big motorcycle with saddlebags. What kind of motorcycle do you ride?
@Harleystreetglide562
@Harleystreetglide562 3 года назад
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle I ride a 2019 Street Glide Special. Now, I have 4.5 stretch bags which maybe I thought the reason why it happen. I wanted also ask about putting the foot down. I know that is natural thing to do when you feel like your going to fall. What it be better to learn to keep my feet on the floorboards. Regardless of the outcome. I want to go back into slow speed drills. But right now my thoughts are skeptical.

Hey Charlie. I have no idea to be honest with you. My initial thought is I’m sure you can practice in any mode. Try them all and see which one feels more comfortable to you. I will say, if you usually ride in sport mode, that probably the one you should practice on.

Got a question. I'm 5'5. With a modified seat...I can JUST about flat-foot. I normally feel comfortable at stops...until I've started to follow the "covering the rear brake before moving" concept. It's left me feeling very wiggy at some lights/during practice/etc. Do you think it's possible to modify the technique to where I learn to quickly cover the brake as soon as I start moving? I.e....I feel like I need to have both feet on the ground while stopped.

I understand the slow-moving control thing all too well, but we both know 95% of most motorcycle riders play it safe putting their feet down to avoid laying their bikes down. Feet up slow manuvering is for the skilled motor officer in competition. Most people are not going to risk learning clutch, throttle, and trail braking on the fly and end up on the ground. A good pair of boots to plant the feet, slowing down, and not being fancy is what keeps many off the ground because we both know very few riders have the skill of a motor officer yet they have NEVER put a bike on the ground.
