Producers of the 1980s version of "Scarface" starring Al Pacino planned to shoot a substantial part of the film on location in Miami. Many people in Miami were uneasy about this -- the city's image was taking a beating and "Miami Vice" had not yet demonstrated that a new image as a sexy, sultry hotbed of drug violence could be a selling point.
Miami's Cuban exile community was particularly angry that the film's lead character, Tony Montana, a murderous, amoral thug who may have had a thing for his own sister, was also a Cuban exile, and controversy stalked the film before shooting started, as shown in the first story in this clip.
The controversy did not let up and eventually, as the second story in this clip recounts, "Scarface" left Miami.
