@AgentDC76 The Viacom V scared me too. Kinda looks like it is going to pop out of the screen the way it comes at you like a train coming down the tracks! LOL
I actually liked the PBS "extending face" one. Very peaceful music. Viacom Vs were the only one I found scary as a kid although there were quite a few others, including Paramount and ITC, whose ident music hurt my ears.
The DiC, Screen Gems, and CTW (Children's Television Workshop) logos have the wrong music - the first music is for Paramount Home Video, the second music is from Lorimar Televison, and the thrird is from WGBH Boston.
Here are the logos that we seen on TV #1 The Unseen on VHS #2 M:I, Mannix and The Brady Bunch episode The Dropout #3 The New Fred & Barney Show #4 Woman on WNED-TV #5 Adventures in the wild: Hunting the wild turkey #6 Streets of San Francisco #7 DIC with 2nd Paramount home entertainment logo! FAKE! #8 3-2-1 contact #9 Real Stories of the Highway Patrol #10 Make Room for Daddy aka Danny Thomas Show #11 S from Hell with Lorimar productions! FAKE! #12 1982 Tom Selleck TV movie The Shadow Riders #13 Nature TV series #14 My 3 sons #15 CTW sparkles with WGBH boston! FAKE! #16 On Golden pond #17 Family ties #18 Done for! #19 Sesame Street R.I.P. National Educational Television 1952-1970! This made me so sad when my Dad was retired from Pratt & Whitney and Winter is getting very old. #20 The Year Without a Santa Claus #21 NOVA Safety Factor Final: Capture of Grizzly Adams
The logos themselves aren't scary. It has to do with cultural differences a generation ago. Back when we were children, there was only one TV, so the whole family watched the same thing together. The logo was the last thing we heard before mom or dad turned the TV off and we brushed our teeth and went to bed. It wasn't uncommon that one of those TV logos would be playing in my head over and over if I woke up in the middle of the night, and if I didn't immediately fall asleep again, my imagination would run wild. Imagine that "V of doom" suddenly appearing and headed straight toward you like a doomsday comet.
