Scary Australian Snakes | Close Encounters With Deadly Australian Snakes

Australian snakes can be very dangerous. Even those of us that love snakes are not immune to jumping sideways when we find one under out feet. In this video I see a LOT of snakes, and a couple of them really scared me.
If you are not a snake lover, or amateur herpetologist, the best thing that you can do is assume that every snake is dangerous, and then walk around them. Respect them, but don't fear them. Just walk around them giving them plenty of space.

Photographing snakes has it's risks and dangers. So do all motorsports, bungee jumping, parachuting, snowboarding, bushwalking, getting tattooed, playing football, cricket etc.... Car accidents kill and injur more of us than all of of our dangerous hobies comnined.

Hi mate, I will say that it is at the Winton Wetlands but I can't say exactly where. The reason being, last year I had a great herping area near a road. It was a bale of hay. One day I counted 7 black snakes sunning themselves at once. Then one day I went and there were dead snakes everywhere, cut in half with a shovel. I wouldn't want someone with that mentality to see it written here where they can go and do that.

I saw this huge redbelly black on the spillway bank of my fathers lake at kinglake and it was so shiny, long and healthy. Thank God I've never seen a eastern brown. My daughter got bitten by either a black or brown snake and she shows me her ankle the next morning, saying she's be bitten by a insect or something as it was itchy. Not for me thanks Robbie, i don’t mind snakes and I’d never hurt one. But the times I’ve come across them has mostly been when I’m heading for a fish somewhere. I do what you did and jump and scream. But when i get my breath back I’m ok. The worst experience i ever had was clearing a block of land behind where I used to work in Dubbo, we’d only just started and every bush we cut out seemed to house an enormous Brown Snake! Suffice to say that we told the boss to clear his own block of land. 🤣😂 i never went back onto that block again. 😅

Haha wow that's insane. A friend of mine got bitten by a brown snake doing just that. She was whipper snippering long grass in the block behind her house when she got bitten on the leg. She almost died and spent quite some time in hospital. Thank God for anti venom.

The best thing about Aussie snakes is they are predictable. If you stay clear of them and especially NEVER get between the snake and its nearest cover/hiding spot, then they'll go about their day while you can go about yours. Like that opening black snake, they'll warn you when you've gotten too close.

I'm surprised that poor Brown snake managed to live that long, I guess once he got big enough the Black snakes won't eat him- they can be a bit territorial like that or maybe its an old rural tale that the Black snakes will keep your yard clear of wandering Browns. Surprised no Goannas about with all that lunch on the ground but they prefer warmer weather too I suppose. Come late spring and summer its a whole different ball game out there for our reptiles
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing Месяц назад
Thanks mate. I've never seen a Goanna in that area. I tend to find them more in arid areas away from swamps. They seem to like the Box Ironbark areas a lot. As for blacks eating browns, it's kind of true. They all eat each other, as long as they fit in..haha A large brown would eat a baby black. I've seen footage of a brown snake eating a tiger. LOL

@@robbiefishing I'd never heard of Brown's eating other snakes so that's new to me. The big Mulga snakes I've seen eat anything they can catch but they're kind of insane creatures, I am cautious and respectful of all Australian snakes, but if there's a Mulga (aka King Brown) its just time to get in the car and leave! When I was 17 I remember a neighbour having his cat and dog killed by one and he had to destroy it, it was 8ft long and about as thick as a big man's arm. Which is a shame of course but at the time part of living n the country.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing Месяц назад
@@krissteel4074 I've only ever seen one King Brown and it was dead. Near Cobar. It was enormous. I have a feeling they are a very close relative of the black snake. They're a member of the same family I think. I do know that their venom isn't as strong as many other snakes, but their payload (venom yield) is absolutely massive. They deliver huge amounts of venom.
@krissteel4074
@krissteel4074 Месяц назад
@@robbiefishing I think most of our serious snakes are in that Elapidae family of snake. Even the little tubby guys like the Death Adder fall into it as well, on most continents they would be in the Vipera family but those never came here so the Elapids took over all the venomous niches.
