I think the thing about collab level is that after the first 3 jumpscares, you’re expecting a fourth one when you get to that excessively long part, however it doesn’t happen so all of that expecting goes to waste but then right as you calm down a bit, one more jumpscare hits you directly in the face and I love it
I think the thing with the scary parts in collab level is the sounds that play in the background. They're offputting even outside of the context of the level and it only enhances the uncanny experience you are watching.
THANK YOU FOR THE TOO KID FRIENDLY SLANDER! here's my thoughts on this disgrace (wall of text) Too kid friendly is an absolutely DISGRACE to everything that horror levels in GD are supposed to be. The gameplay is fine but can be slightly buggy and very unbalanced. The main thing is the deco. The horror theming is done so awful. It does a lot of random flickers to "creepy" stuff like blood on spikes, an all red background, to random-ass hands. The monsters in the level are just there to make them theming feel more "alive", but it just feels clunky, especially since you can see through them at times as when they rotate, you can see the imperfections. The nuclear bomb part is just a dumb cutscene, and most of it afterwards makes no sense. Here's a city with green fire, here's heaven, here's a cutscene showing the monsters dying, here's the monsters that just died appearing again with soulless death stairs while the gameplay becomes glitchy for some reason, here's another city that's on fire with a random oil explosion, and so much more. The bossfight is ok, but why do random pillars just rip the boss's head and torso off our of no where? And a screaming, bloody eyed monster appears which just feels edgy. And then it ends with another edgy death cutscene, a field of gore that makes no sense with the already dead monsters existing again and one killing itself for no reason. And then it ends with the sun bleeding. Oh yeah and credits showing how the D, I, and E spell out DIE. Oh wow, edge much? This level is horrendous and just shits on the great horror levels like peaceful and man man. It's unbalanced, looks ugly, and just doesn't deserve to exist, especially since it just completely ruined the reputation of the song it uses, ColBreakz - 30.000 forever. Yeah, fuck this level.
7:48 this is literally specimen 6's death screen from spooky's jumpscare mansion 8:38 and this face is from imscared (not saying it's bad that these scares are references just saying in case people don't know)
TBH I kinda like Too Kid-Friendly. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a true horror experience like the others which is why you don't seem to be a fan of it. The cutscenes with all the monsters dying were pretty grotesque but well-drawn. (also I'm pretty sure the cutscene with the white monster was his eyes being gouged which is why he's shown holding them later on). Though I do agree that the visuals do come off as a bit garish and buggy at times.
always said Red Rooms and Man Man were all edge and no point. Just blind gore and in the latter case, nsfw material (you know EXACTLY what kind of stuff I mean). Also most of man man's hyper is based on misinformation, like people thinking that the level being unlisted and only accessible by friends as an extra safety measure, when that's something that was put into place a while before because people wouldn't stop stealing unlisted collab parts. Also Too Kid Friendly, it looks hideous when you take away the characters and backgrounds, the block design is ALL basic 2.0 or in some cases basic 2.1, and does nothing interesting with it. And another thing I'm surprised you didn't touch on was how badly put together the level actually is. To the point you can see the seams where the level was haphazardly stitched together. 10:47 you can see gaps in the mouth and eyes when the characters move around. 10:10 you can see one of the circles in the eyes is misaligned. Worst of all is 12:27 where the monster is completely broken because of rotation and it just looks horrible. I want to like the level, but at the same time, man is it held together with scotch tape and a prayer.
honestly, at least too kid friendly has the fucking weird factor going for it. like, if the whole thing was structured more coherently, and the unnecessary stuff like the glitch effect was cut, the juxtaposition of the bland vector art style and the poppy song against the objectively grotesque cutscenes could actually work. also, i think one of the reasons red rooms works so well is the buildup. like first it's just freaking unnerving meat structures, then the maggots give it the ick factor, and then arriving at the poop factory with the bones (IMPLYING CANIBALLISM WTF DEVIN?) just stinkin breaks you. and then the metal, sterile area contrasts super well, as well as giving you time to process just how revolting what you just saw was. and then the RAPE/MURDER/TORTURE/CRY text kicks in and it just further cements the sheer pevertedness of the map. then you just have this emptiness, and you don't think it can get any worse, and then THE BLONDE LADY GETS FUCKING SHOT???? WHAT? and then your stomach drops and the level gives you just enough time to process the shitshow you just saw before ending.
Nahhh bro. Collab level is just a bunch of random jumpscares thrown together and the last one is so predictable. The middle part is just boring. I don't agree with that placement
