Scary Movie Scenes You Won't Watch More Than Once

There are many defining scenes in movies that elevate a good movie to a great movie. These defining scenes are the reason we love movies and why we watch them over and over again on RU-vid. They even act as a pick me up on a rough day at the office.
But when it comes to the horror movie genre, great scenes are not defined by how watchable they are, but by how much they triggered our innermost fears. A great horror scene mounts suspense and with perfect timing reveals an unimaginable terror.
Here are the scary movie scenes you won't want to watch more than once.

What other scary movie scenes should've made the list?

Looper Eden Lake should be on here. Especially for the ending where the kids parents takes the protagonist to a room and shuts the door.

When they filmed the sloth scene in Se7en, no one but the director and the actor on the bed knew he was going to move. The reactions of the other actors are genuine - scared the crap out of them.

@rainycloud10
@rainycloud10 6 лет назад
I seriously don't get how Directors manage to pull that off. What about the script? The actors are made to read the script before shooting a scene so shouldn't there be no room for a surprise?
@masterreaper115
@masterreaper115 6 лет назад
Are you kidding? its easy. 5 ppl in a room yeah? 4 of them say something like *looks down at the body in despair* while the one for the dude on the table says *fucking alien bursts out of your chest and you scream* BOOM one guy knows, director knows, other 4 actors dont. Its not hard at all.

It's not boring, it is realistic. Murderers who wants to kill will kill. Not like most slasher films where the killer gets killed or when it is morning everything will be fine. It's gruesome and horrific and the murder scene isn't one you feel to watch more than once.
@robertjr8239

@jaredfehrens6988

bard icus Jonathan Bicker explained it well. It seemed like after an intense home invasion scene that there was a moment of relief. We were certain that her friends were outside the door and after they all piled in we see some at least 6’8 sickly looking guy bend down through the door. It was definitely the scariest scene for me

Funny, the scene just before it is what freaks me out the most. And the reason is almost entirely the build up. The music in It Follows is unbelievably effective. That scream-like noise when Jay first sees "It" is the stuff of nightmares. It paralyzes you, just like she's paralyzed with fear. Sends chills down my spine every time.

@steerpike66

People don't seem to get two simple things: When you are seven years old: anything can be scary: a corny TV show, a book cover, a metal album cover can haunt your nightmares for years. and Being startled and being scared are NOT the same thing. To feel real dread when watching a film, you have to be invested in the characters, and submerged in the film as it it was happening to you. It requires an investment of imagination. To be really frightened watching a film is to forget that it is a film. If you can't do that, then sorry, poor you.
@MsThebeMoon

Chazbot: So true. I think sometimes people fight being vested in a character in a horror as a defense mechanism. I remember being terrified (literally for months afterwards) when I seen The Exorcist at the movie theater and couldn't understand people in the audience who were laughing (older teens, I believe).
@yannis41

They were laughing for the same reason people still laugh today in the movie theater when they watch a horror movie ... defensive mechanism after being scared shitless

That scene from It Follows got me good. It does a good job of baiting you into feeling relief then scaring you with the monster. When I first saw that it shocked me so much I couldn't help but look away from the screen, no movie has ever shocked me like that, and the best part is it was hardly a jump scare.

A scene that really fucks me up, to this day, is the “I saw her face” scene from the ring. That scare came so completely out of nowhere and was so intense and wrong that it felt like the movie had betrayed your trust. I’m pretty immune to “movie fear” for the most part but good god...that was one of the few moments I’ve ever been truly shaken by a horror film.

I was exposed to horror movies at a young age, so I was pretty desensitized early on, but one of the few I was completely barred from watching was The Descent. My mom and aunts sent us to our room so they could watch it by themselves, and us kids heard the screaming from all the way across the house. With that as the tone setter, my curiosity was piqued, and a few nights later I snuck into the living room with the dvd to watch it by myself. I wasn't claustrophobic before then. I am now. To this day I've never seen it again.

While Tim Curry's fierce performance makes you fear Pennywise, the remake does put a spin on it that I think makes it measure up. Instead of the primary focus being Pennywise himself, they split it much better with Georgie's experience. At the end of the scene, even if you aren't personally afraid of clowns, you feel the fear of the character facing him. Because you see how Georgie's death begins, the bloody injury, his fearful crying as he tries to crawl away, and that final shot of the long arm reaching out s l o w l y to grab him and *yank* him back into the sewer, you feel a lot more than you would if you weren't afraid of clowns watching the first movie, even with Tim Curry's stellar acting ability.

They forgot about the conjuring 1 wardrobe scene. That was the creepiest in my opinion and should’ve been on the list

Oh ... so they recently redid "Cabin Fever". I just saw the new version on Netflix and noticed that it mentioned Eli Roth.

Creepiest part of Session 9 is when he is pulling the gold and rings out of the hole in the wall and when it pans you discover it's a massive crematorium and the "treasures" he is pulling are from the ashes of humans.

It's interesting how you ended the video saying the film "It" creates a fear of clowns. Just learning about John Gacy will do that!

I found the shaving scene from Cabin Fever especially unpleasant to watch because I've had cuts on my leg that got infected. However, some of the nastiest scenes from horror movies are in David Cronenberg movies....you have to be in an especially bleak frame of mind to want to watch Dead Ringers or Videodrome or even his non-horror films like Eastern Promises!

The two most disturbing scenes I have seen in movies that I didn't want to see again where not from what you would call horror films. The young boy getting killed in Funny Games was pretty disturbing you didn't see it graphically but he got his head blown off by a shotgun. The reactions of the parents seeing it happen Tim Roth and Naomi Watts told you how graphic it was. The other scene was similar and was graphic but it's the unexpected nature of it that was more shocking and that was Bolties death in Super.

The Woman in Black has a scene where the villian is at the end of the hallway and works her way towards Daniel Radcliffe's character...that shot creeped me out and I won't watch it again.

WAAAH, the shaving one is so fucking scary for me! I wasn't shaving, but I DID have my skin come off just from touching it, as the side effectof an antibiotic. Steven-Johnson syndrome, it's called. I got off lucky and didn't have to be hospitalized but I still have the scars a decade later.
