"Mayday, mayday, mayday..." "We're sorry, emergency calls are not supported in this version..." Brilliant! And you got it on camera, too! Thanks for the video. :)
A bit of a hard landing and you forgot to feather the prop and pitch for the best glide. But realism aside, BeyondATC was a bit disappointing with the missing emergency calls, coming from FSX, I guess I was blessed with RadarContact that supported various emergencies and a nice debrief.
You can't feather the prop of a PA-28 161, as it has a fixed-pitch propeller but definitely could have pitched for best glide. As far as the landing, the road had small hills, which made it a bit difficult to land smoothly and in addition (not making excuses), I was using a 20 year old CH Yoke which is horrible, I need a new one.
I think you could easily have made the glide. You need to know best glide for your plane. At 2550lbs it's76kts but out of fuel one pilot it's lower but you can try 75kts as a general rule. You dove too steeply and built up a lot of speed to 85kts+ which is low and fast in the denser soup so you waste energy. Only point it downward up to 75kts, if it goes faster you lift the nose a little. flaps should be zero of course in a best glide situation. flaps are airbrakes. Try the scenario again. You can easily do it. Even when you are all the way down to the ground you can start to sacrifice speed to keep going all the way to stall speed so even at the ground it has more to go. The primary lesson of flying should be that a plane is foremost a glider. Which means that stall is not your friend.
Yes, you may be right. I hadn't flown in years, both in real life and sim and was truly unprepared for this fight, as I mainly wanted to test out BeyondATC. Thank you for the tips, I will have to give it another try.
