can you use mosaic mesh tile on these grates ?

Hi there! You could use a mosaic, but you would need support on the edges. You could use a profile to frame them in, but it may be doable without as well. The best would be to test and dry fit it first, but we have no issue with it as long as the tiles are supported and stay together. Hope that helps!

I’m having a major mold problem all around the tiled drain cover after just 2 months of using my shower, it’s disgusting, my tile guy seems to have used white silicone caulking around it and it’s all black with mold! I’m Trying to figure out how to clean it and if that was an installation mistake on his part. I just sent an email to Schluter, hopefully they get back to me. I’m thinking the grate covers are much easier to maintain clean and wondering if I can swap the tiled one for a grate.

Looks pretty but the back of the drain that is adjacent to the wall is a bad installation because cleaning that space is going to be nasty and that piece with the stick on tape will eventually come off and then cleaning the exposed membrane will probably result in compromising it and causing a leak. It’s poorly thought out.

is the drain has to be close against the wall like in this video? I wonder if the drain can be install inch 1 1/2" away from the wall

Hi there! You can place the drain at 1-1/2'' from the wall, no problem. You will just need to tile that space between the wall and the grate. Those tiles should be sloped a bit toward the drain to help with drainage. Hope that helps!

Has anyone installed one of these with river rock flooring? My customer wants the hidden drain look but I am imagining the need for grout to give a straight finish on the edges won't work well if it can crumble away due to lack of support on both sides

Hi Ryan! You can do it, but may be a bit tricky. Make sure the pebble stones are well supported on the grate and not overhanging to much. It might be good to try it first on something similar to the grate as a test before purchasing the tileable drain and installing the full assembly.

I am still on the fence for this application because I want a finished product I can stand behind for years to come, and the smaller stones really need good support. Maybe I can change their mind to get a stainless steel patterned grate instead!

How do you insure tiled cover is even with adjacent tiled floor?

Hey there! The top of the KERDI-LINE tileable covering support D is the same height as the top of the KERDI-LINE bonding flange, so the tile will automatically be at the same height when installed on both.

Video is old. Only use MODIFIED thinset for ALL steps.

Hi there! We recommend using non-modified thin set for all the steps or Schluter ALL-SET. @@schlutersystems1 All set is a modified. So like I said before. Just use modified for all stages. Forget unmodified thinset. 99.9% of applications are modified

The ALL-SET is the only modified thin-set that we can warranty as it is made to be used with our System.

@@schlutersystems1 I've read the "limited" warranty. It's worthless to my company. A warranty sounds good, but we both know how limited it is if you actually read it. I will only use Laticrete thinsets. Far superior to All-set. I've been here a while, I remember the first run of All-set being a bad formula. Then it was remade. I know about the 2% fail rate on linear drains and their delamination.. As a rep, you HAVE to say certain things. But in the field, with the pros, NO ONE uses unmodified. It's old news

Schluter products are overrated and overpriced. Also followed mixture procedure of their All set cement and found out that the wall membrane did not adhere to the mold resistant drywall consistently. I couldn't take a chance expecting this membrane to support wall tiles. Schluter warranty is only on paper. They squirm out of honoring their warranty by finding excuses. All contractors with years of experience I spoke to stay away from Schluter products.
