Schluter-KERDI-LINE-VARIO is a versatile linear drain with a slim, modern grate design that can be cut to size on-site to fit the precise dimensions of your shower.
KERDI-LINE-VARIO features a slim and discreet look and is offered in four grate designs in brushed stainless steel to match with the latest trends in tile.
Unlike traditional linear drains, the linear channel is part of the grate assembly rather than the drain
body. Since the channel and grate assembly can be cut to the desired size on either end, this allows for increased flexibility in the placement of the flange based on the position of the drainage outlet.
Part of the Schluter®-Shower System, KERDI-LINE-VARIO is designed for use in bonded waterproofing applications and is simple to install with either the Schluter®-KERDI-SHOWER-LT/-LTS prefabricated trays or in mortar bed installations.

Owner of LT LAPOINTE'S TILE. 30 years experience installing. I have been selling and installing Schluter all these years! This is a great option for a retro shower. Especially when plumbing is in a cement floor with no access below. My Plumbers have stated it would be better if this drain had the slip fitting option to join pipe or the stainless as the other line drains. Connecting to the threaded pipe adds length to the drain. Its also another spot that could leak over a glued slip joint.

Just finished one with mortar bed, it's all the same only thing I did was make a foam block the same size as the drain hub and hot glued to floor so it did not move. Did the pan bed and let dry. Removed the foam block and installed foam +hub like normal. Covered in kerdi as normal. Looks amazing with wall to wall grate.

I am excited to be using this drain in my steam shower and wanted to see which Schluter profiles were used in the vertical corners and the floor side walls? Thanks

Would the water not get under the channel body and mold? I assume the channel body has a pitch to it? Looks like it would be a great product, just curious if that would be an issue?
@schlutersystems1
@schlutersystems1 8 месяцев назад
Hi Aaron Good question. The answer is, no. The channel body is bonded with thin-set, just like tile, so that will not be an issue. The channel has a "V" shaped bottom to help evacuate water, which is similar to our longer KERDI Linear drains. Hope that helps!

8:44 What dams the edge of the channel after you cut it? I did not see anywhere where an end cap is put on the channel ends to prevent water from going out to the side. Was a step missed in this video, or did I miss something? If I missed something, please provide the time stamp.

Hi Luke! The KERDI-LINE-VARIO does not have any ends in the channel body. It doesn't need any. Because it's meant to be shortened, it is easier to just trim down the channel and install it as is. The KERDI membrane will provide the waterproofing in the small area at the ends and the open end will be hidden by the tile, so no worries. Hope that helps!

Is it possible to install the channel body before the wall tiles?

If combining this drain with a ditra-heat application and a schluter foam pan, would you prefer I put a layer of ditra-heat or plywood under the drain flange so the top is flush with the surrounding ditra-heat or should I set the drain flange to the subfloor and have a lip / recess in the kerdi fabric which is attached to the drain flange?

@@schlutersystems1 Okay, so they got back to me and there is no documentation internally anywhere on using kerdi-line-vario with ditra heat. They offered to reach out to the technical department, but it may take several weeks to hear back, and it may not even be approved at all! To others looking at this product, do not buy this product with the intent to use with Ditra Heat until Schluter figures out if they can be used together. Now I have to pause my project for weeks, and I've already set the foam pan. If they can't be used together I'll be out about $1k in materials and have to re-set my pan at a new elevation and lose the heated shower floor.

Final update: Schluter's technical department got back to me and confirmed kerdi-line-vario can be installed the same way as kerdi-line in a ditra-heat application, by installing a small layer of ditra-heat under the drain flange.

You should really rethink the labels you have on stuff. I'm over here now digging through garbage bags because the "black downspout" piece that goes on the channel body had a piece of foam in it with tape over it saying remove and discard. The way it's packaged looks like you're dosed to remove the whole thing and discard it since it's all trapped together like one piece.
@schlutersystems1
@schlutersystems1 6 месяцев назад
Hi there, so sorry to hear that! The foam piece insert is meant to keep the shape of the downspout, and needs to be removed before installation. I will definitely pass along your feedback to our team here to see if that can be made clearer, and if you need us to send you a replacement downspout, don't hesitate to ask, and we'll take care of you. Thanks!
