Schuberth C5 Helmet: rvz.la/3MqDCvE
With a long history of quiet and comfortable helmets, the new Schuberth C5 Helmet aims to set the bar higher than it has ever been before. Featuring a DFP Glass fiber heat-formed shell that increases rigidity and lowers weight. Updated aerodynamics aims to mitigate fatigue so that you can put more miles than ever before. With this new iteration, the C5 aims to be the end all be all of modular helmets.

Spurg: I was somewhat surprised and dismayed that you failed to mention the two features that most potential purchasers of the "new" (it's been sold in Europe since last fall) Schuberth C5 would find of interest. First, this is the first Schuberth with P/J homologation - allowing the flip-up shield to lock into the open position allowing the helmet to be used as a street-legal 3/4 helmet - a feature long available on top competitors like the Shoei Neo-Tec 2 and Nolan N100-5 but heretofore missing on Schuberths. Second, and most egregious, your comment about "DOT only," was totally misleading. The new C5 is the first and only modular helmet to meet and exceed the new ECE 22-06 EURO safety standards. All its competitors: Shoei, Nolan, HJC, AGV, etc., currently meet the current but less stringent ECE 22-05 standard. Newer models from those makers that meet the 22-06 standards have not yet been announced, let alone released to market. As to Snell, well our friend Ryan K., a.k.a. FortNine has clearly documented that the Snell standard is irrelevant, if not outright dangerous, when applied to motorcycle helmets. In any case, my order will be placed shortly.

Supposedly, per RevZilla's own information on Schuberth's E1 and C4 helmets, Schuberth as of 2018 does not import ECE-rated modulars into the US anymore, hence why it's DOT rated instead here. Unless that's changed with the C5, which would probably be the push I personally needed to really look into them here, then in the US it's still only DOT rated unless you import from somewhere else. I was watching this hoping they were in fact ECE rated here too but hard to say so far.
@badpants

@@Tarukai788 Just purchased one from a European store and there is no issue importing an ECE-rated Schuberth. Revzilla and most U.S. companies don't import ECE-rated helmets unless they are DOT certified as well. Not sure if this is their policy or because the European companies won't export those ECE-only models to companies in the states. I live in Florida, so I can wear whatever helmet I chose, regardless of the certification. Revzilla just missed out on a sale, and previous sales, because of this policy. Supposedly the DOT-certified version will weigh 100 grams more and you can't find them in the states currently. I also had to order my old C3 from Europe years ago because it was not DOT certified. I've never seen a cop check a helmet's certification other than on those novelty helmets the Harley riders buy.
@JPesos619
@JPesos619 2 года назад
@@badpants USA / Inter-State DOT Law > Florida Law. The DOT rating is a requirement in states where a certification is required. For importers bringing items into the USA, also a requirement. Agreed though, an officer probably would not check, but your regular Joe Schmo who gets pulled over is a bit different than abiding by customs / national regulations
@badpants

@@JPesos619 Importing and selling ECE helmets is not against the law. Companies import and sell novelty helmets all the time. It is the importer's/exporter's policy that prevents us from getting these helmets from local distributors.

I just tagged and titled an SV 650 and was curious about the new Schuberths. I now know I will have one thank you very much. I am now going to set this video on repeat, smoke weed and contemplate my motorcycle. I had an old Schuberth gifted to me, and wore it til it fell apart. I bought a Schoei Neotech to replace it, and omg you could immediately tell the difference in quality. It was like when Honda competes with Harley Davidson. Illusion of quality is only apparent after you just wore out a Schuberth. I'm almost deaf already, and I guess I owe me a new C5. Thanks guys, I LOVE the way you guys present. Go make some money and don't get killed, only injured. Thanks, man. Ride to work.

Great helmet. Love mine. My sc2 battery at the back didn’t connect properly to the connectors inside and after googling it I found out that the metal connector can drop below the tabs which mine had so I had to use tweezers to get it back up and locked in place. technical question Schuberth C5 sizing chart sucks. I am 58cm and L is too big. Can I buy the "oval head padding kit" for the size M and fit this to the L? the shell sizes are the same, but not sure if the inner fixed padding changes sizes or its just done with the changeable paddings. So I am asking can I change an L into M with a padding kit?

Before I start I have the C5 and I love!!! At first I unfortunately had a few problems. 4 minutes in, you're 100 % right! I had to get my top vent replaced. It wouldn't stop rattling and during a tour around, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, it drove me nuts. Schuberth sent me a new one and the problem seems to have been resolved but I was very disappointed that such an issue in such a price category could even happen in the first place. I've been riding with the helmet for a few months now and I am pretty disappointed. While the ventilation is great and the helmet is comfortable it has some major drawback and quality issues for a $750 helmet. First the visor is impossible to close with one hand. You have to use two hands and force the visor past the little tabs to lock it into place or you have to force the shield to deform to get the tabs into place. Second the forward most cheek pads constantly come undone and will not stay locked in place. Lastly the top vent slide cover rattles when closed, makes a really irritating noise in the helmet.

My E1 turned 5 years old this month and was going to replace it with another one. Would you think the C5 has as much airflow to the chin as the E1? I mainly tour with some light off roading once in a blue moon.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 2 года назад
You should have about the same amount of ventilation as the E1, as that helmet was the similar C3 Pro with a peak visor added. Another option would be to simply lift the chin bar when you hit those light dirt roads for more airflow, or crack open the shield for maximum airflow. Otherwise, grabbing a more-ADV specific lid may help with better ventilation.
@whatinthehellisrickydoing7116
@whatinthehellisrickydoing7116 2 года назад
I had a chance to try the C-5 a couple weeks ago while in the Netherlands. Air flow through the chin vent felt slightly less than my E1 but I was on a rented touring bike with a taller windshield than I usually ride with so that may be a factor. I went with the same size I have in the E1 and the fit was the same with the exception the cheeks were a bit more snug but with a little more room on the forehead. I will eventually replace my E1 with the C5 since I don’t use the E1’s visor.

I previously upgraded my C3 to a C4 and the C4 was clearly a disappointment. I've now been using the C5 helmet for almost 2 months and it is a definite improvement over the C4. It's seems much quieter than the C4 yet vents MUCH better. As for the fit, it is very UN-Schuberth and seems to be more of a true intermediate oval than round. Typically I'd size up if anywhere close to being in between sizes but the C5 actually seems to be more true to size. So far I'm happy with the C5 - and there was no Schuberth forehead stamp to deal with during the break-in.

@@ryanhuang1668 It does fit closer to the C3. All of my Schuberth helmets have been MED/57cm. In my experience, the C3 was a little tight on the forehead for a while but did break in eventually. The C5 is also a MED and I found it to fit better from day one and seems to be a little longer front to back. Helmet manufactures make different helmets for the US vs Europe, even US dual homologated helmets. The Neotec 2 in the US weighs 1868 grams whereas the EU ECE only model weighs 1750 grams. This is universal for nearly all brands as the DOT testing has a shell penetration standard (therefore heavier helmets) and ECE does not. Nice job Spurg.. disappointing compromises with objective of restricting construction to only two shell sizes. The Russian doll arrangements of internal padding is a ridiculous approach. Ratchet strap closure is a no-go, as is US model DOT only cert. unless and until the Euro version cert is readily available I’ll not dropping that kind of cash for a Schuberth C5

@i2ambler2002 Год назад
Why would they only make 2 shell sizes? Honestly - a large head shouldnt get stuffed into the same shell that an XS goes into. I got a Large and it seems to fit really well once broken in, but the chin bar seems very close to my face. Another issue is - the chin bar seems to have become deformed after opening and closing it after about 2000 miles- so now the actual shield wont 'clip' into place. It sort of goes down all the way, leaves one side cracked *no matter what I do*. Seems extremely poorly designed, tbh.

It looks like a well designed and thought out touring helmet to me. I'm just not sure about helmets with proprietary communicator accommodations. It seems logical to me that a rider should be allowed to decide for himself which brand of communicator to go with, and this might even have to be based entirely on whatever his buddies are using. I know I could probably put whatever I wanted on it, but then I would have to accept that I paid for the feature which I do not plan to use. Not a big deal really, unless you are inclined to dwell on unimportant little nagging things, like I do.

I agree, I am an older rider, and I don't talk on a phone while riding nor do I listen to music on my phone. It's annoying that I get the extra cost/weight of a communications system that I will never use. I would rather just ride like I did in the old days and just listen to the voices in my head.

I agree! I hate knowing that I'm paying for something I'm not going to use. Incidentally, I would be putting the cardo edge in it. I primarily ride alone and listen to music from my phone. I do have a friend that also has a cardo edge, and when we ride together we will be using it to communicate. I'm looking at this helmet and the shoei neotek 2 which unfortunately also has the proprietary communication system setup. I guess the question is, how difficult is it to switch it out with the cardo in either of the two helmets. And I'll just have to be a little disgruntled that I didn't use the system I paid for when I get the helmet, lol.

There is something here I need to say: I own both a C5 and a Neotec 3, the difference is huge in build quality, where on C5 I can't even close the visor while on the go. I'm rly sry I've recommended this helmet to some of my friends (they have the same issue so it's not something isolated). Overall C5 feels really cheap in comparison with Shoei Neotec 3, for a similar price. I'm a Schubert fan, and the Neotec is my first SHOEI ever. I'm super disappointed of the C5.
@mayorofnow
@mayorofnow 2 года назад
I was surprised to see the C5 pop up here, since it's a 22.06 helmet, but disappointed that the US version is DOT only. Feels like the US is perpetually stuck with helmets that only meet obsolete safety standards. Also disappointed by the ratchet straps. With D-rings, you can use the fangs under the seat of many motos to secure your helmet while parked. I don't think you'd be able to do that with this helmet. I'm presuming that the speakers use some proprietary connection to get you to buy their Sena module. That's unfortunate: it would be cool if you could just plug in the Cardo and go. At the same time, hopefully you could follow the routing of the original cables to minimize any disturbances in interior feel with an aftermarket system.

I don’t know about that. They have some wiring, an antenna and speakers, but they still charge as much as a stand alone system for the guts. I’m sure the Cardo will fit on the side just fine. I have given up on speakers and gone to IEMs for use with helmets because the speakers aren’t loud enough and do nothing to block out wind noise. I don’t think the built-in systems have auxiliary headphone jacks on them for IEMs. It is nice to ride along with the sound turned down, hearing fine and not listening to wind noise.

We'd rather review the helmet once we get the unit and release the video to help everyone make their decision on buying, not just those ready to immediately pull the trigger and buy now. Our video teams is not connected to our inventory team to keep the two separate and allow us to review the products honestly. If we waited to review and release videos until units came into inventory, we would've only released a few videos for all of COVID, which isn't really ideal. Schuberth decides when these come to the US and inventory lands, so hopefully that will be soon. As for us, we are just going to keep making product videos and getting the info out there.
