A real scientist. He's not trying to shut down questions that don't match the "consensus", he's open-mindedly trying to understand why something doesn't match that consensus.
@@OscarRamos-ql4io There is surviving and there is thriving. I agree that survival has guided us, but in order to go beyond just surviving we must challenge the unknown. There are infinite variables that can guide a species, I was merely addressing the scientific method used in the video....
@Oscar Ramos it's the life inside the space dust that interest us as Life thrives in water so much life we can't even see with naked eyes such life may exist in frozen ice of comet
I would finally be able to die happy. I wake up and see a Spotify notification, “the joe rogan experience posted a new episode: #3648 - Glibnarr from c-137
This scientist reminded me of the exact opposite of "bearded guy". Saying a whole lot of words that actually had some substance to them, instead of just talking to hear yourself.
I’ve seen him interviewed and now reading Avi Loeb’s book Extraterrestrial The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth. I’d suggest to read it too.
@@gregoryl.levitre9759 never heard shill before but looked it up and snake oil salesman comes to mind. I don’t think so. It’s an uphill battle when trying to change thinking to be more open minded. It’s definitely hard since people would stay with the status quo and do things they don’t want to do they can get a paycheck.
This man is an amazing educator. If all of my college professors had the ability to teach or explain their subject matter to me the way this guy does, I would’ve excelled in my studies! I feel I’m somewhat intelligent, I’m not an idiot, but I have a difficult time retaining information and that makes book learning a frustration. I actually understood and LEARNED everything he said. He held my attention on a subject where not much background interest exists. I love these kinds of reports but the “why” and “how” has always eluded me. I just want to know the outcome. Well, this guy changed all that for me, at least in this interview. It has me excited to know that I’m ABLE to retain as long as the materials are presented to me in a way that’s interesting and explained with examples, therefore making it easily understood for me. Wow! I’m impressed.
The hardest part of retaining what's learned from book-learning is the lack of context. Tell me how this knowledge is useful and can be applied in real life. High school Trigonometry was hard for me, and I really liked math. But it was hard to conceptualize. So during a long lecture one day, I rose my hand & pointed at the formula problem on the board he was solving. And I asked the teacher what the formula was used for. The teacher was very confused by my question. He had no answer. Years later, I learned that Issac Newton is credited for inventing trigonometry to explain the the orbits of objects in our solar system. It would have made a huge difference to us students if he told us this rather than cussing at me in Swahili. On a positive note: That day in math class, I did learn that "Jumbo" is a Swahili word meaning "large".
Just started listening to his podcast last week (mainly the science/space episodes) and that’s one of the things I really like..he asks solid engaging questions and let’s his guests speak.
Interesting how significant this guy feels this event was and I agree with him. I remember reading this story and looking up the path the object flew and reading about its reflective surface and to me this is one of the most significant pieces of evidence we have of something not made on earth and probably not naturally occurring. If you have seen millions of rocks and frozen rocks and all of a sudden here comes a piece of sheet metal and it follows a non normal path and under its own propulsion you would have a lot of questions but I think a lot of people didn't really care about this story or its significance.
@@pj1909 that’s alright. Most low IQ individuals don’t find space or science interesting. I hope the inside of your box is still quite happy and entertaining for you.
The thing that blows my mind the most about this is, all the signs point to it potentially being a similar type of technology that we as humans are developing right now. To think that there are other civilizations out there, maybe a lot like ours in the early or intermediate stages of space explorations like us is amazing!
Right. Or it's insane. To think other civilizations progress the same as us...like, I don't understand why we portray aliens to have a head two eyes a mouth two legs. Like where is the imagination lol
no, alien podcast are worse than flat earth discussions. It's scientifically impossible for aliens to have visited earth or be on earth. Thought it was common sense that aliens aren't real so why tf is joe so persistent on talking about conspiracy theories but he won't even touch any discussions about anti-vaccines with anti-vaccine doctors. Joe should get Robert Kennedy Jr on the podcast
@@DMTInfinity I know what science is and the science has yet to show any proof of aliens being real. Pseudoscience is not proof. UFO's aren't even proof of aliens since ufo is just an unidentified object which doesn't necessarily mean it's an alien either. Science even shows that there's no planets within 100 light years of our own galaxy possible of sustaining life on it so show me some type of science that shows it's possible to move faster than the speed of light and also show me that there's some type of place close to earth capable of sustaining life and show me the science of how these so called extraterrestial lifeforms can travel over 100light years with unlimited fuel and food source. Where are they getting this fuel from and what is their food source? basically science has searched for all sorts of irregular energy patterns which could indicate life outside of earth but there has been none of these energy patterns to prove life outside of earth of any type of alien spaceship. As you'd know to travel faster than the speed of light would require a huge amount of energy especially for 100 light years so that would easily be measured when searching for energy patterns and same with any alien type of city or planet. Clearly you don't know what science is since plenty of scientists have debunked aliens already
Absolutely Brilliant, the fact that the object makes scientists uncomfortable shows that they only are expecting known outcomes from current theories and are not looking outside the box. They take new unexpected discoveries as to be shunned if it does not conform to known science.
he always lets the scientists and theoretical physics people do all the talking to get the most of his high, with a few "...phewww, woahhh...."'s thrown in
*FYI you dont HAVE to go to Spotify to listen to full JRE episodes. I have 2other podcast apps that doesn't ban content like Spotify does and actually has far more Shows. Spotify has banned TONS of shows this year!*
That last story he told of the guy explaining about stars being sun's with their own galaxies and having their own God is exactly what I think and I've tried to share my hypotheses with many people.
@@bazzle_brush yeah I love a handful of comments, but hate the hateful ones. I have kept my replies notifications off for quite a while just to not have to go over much negativity and to get that many notifications too. ;p But, at least we have more free speech here than very flawed Fascistbook and Twitter.
Galileo was not the one to discover *heliocentrism* . It was actually Aristarchus of Samos at 300 BC, 1800 years before him. And spherical earth was proposed by the one and only Pythagoras at 500 BC, which was proved by Eratosthenes of Cyrene at 200 BC. They were Greek polymaths who read a lot of Babylonian and Egyptian scripts.
He's not sitting there staring at the guy talking. You gonna sit there for 2 hours and just let the guy talk. It's called stimulating conversation. It's the Joe rogan podcast...
Thing that's messed up is the "space turd" image shown all over the media is not a photograph, it's an artists conception based on what someone told them to draw. They don't know what the actual object looks like.
@@OlviMasta77 well of course you shouldn't feel like your entire life should be upended. Your past doesn't matter. I'm taking it from his perspective that we shouldn't think that we are alone in this universe because the knowledge of the past is shaping how we think and feel.
The arrogance of the other scientists to not want to even consider that it may be true is unbelievable. There are many other stars like our sun with planets revolving around them. The odds are greater that there is life out there. I thought scientists were supposed to see a situation and then do experiments or deductions until they come up with an answer. Instead they say I can’t explain it but I don’t want to even hear your possible explanation. Wow how closed minded can they get. I hope they aren’t teachers.
@@pmready950 tbf a good scientist doesn't leave room, or consider something could be true... that is the wrong way round... if it cannot be measured and tested then debating it is mute. The burden of proof is on the one making the claim. Extraordinary claims require Extraordinary evidence. That aside, statistically speaking it would be surprising if life wasn't abundant, but we have to prove things rather than having a little fantasy sesh of what if.
That bit talking about how throughout history science has been suppressed, especially by religious institutions is a conversation everyone needs to remember
Joe always keeps quiet when he realises his guest is all over a subject. He wants to absorb and learn. I love it when he gets a knowledgeable one like this...
I agree. We should never stop learning. We should never stop asking questions. We should never get too comfortable with what a religion, government, leader, or individual tells us is so.
It’s wild that a lot of scientists are so scared to be wrong I wish more had Avi Loeb’s open minded and willingness to be wrong/proven wrong. Would’ve been cool to confirm what that object was
Hes prolly the vamp that came in that flying object trying to convince Joe that they have arrived without self snichin on himself cos he's a "scientist with Harvard" working on "new technology" prolly alien technology 😆
I quit taking him seriously as soon as he said “I’m a scientist detective like Sherlock Holmes affiliated with Harvard.” He also works the night shift at a blood bank.
Still wondering how they can achieve movement with the jet effect in outer space.considering there is nothing in space then that means there is nothing for the jet effect to push against.i mean that IS what the entire concept of the jet effect concept is based on isn't it.anyone wish to explain this.
There is atmosphere in space.. it isn't just nothing, but unlike our atmosphere the atoms that make up space are very very far apart. If I am slowly going down a hill in a wagon full of boulders and as I'm riding I keep tossing boulders off, my wagon will be lighter and move with a "push" as it were.. even in this type of atmosphere like space there is still resistance, however it is SMALL. Not like wind resistance we think of on earth, but it will still be affected by changes to it's mass and therefore velocity. However! If it were a perfect space and NO resistance at all in space it would not matter , seeing as there's no gravity and no resistance.. but alas. The universe is not perfect. What a drag 😉
our sci fi writers used the concept of building a spaceship/moving base/ark/long range recon ship inside a space rock plenty times before this one ever arrived. do we have an evidence it arrived in 2017?
People being closed minded is defiantly the default setting. It's like that quote: "It Is Difficult to Get a Man to Understand Something When His Salary Depends Upon His Not Understanding It."
Giordano Bruno is the person behind one of the most inspiring quotes I've ever heard. After recieving his death sentence in court he uttered "Perhaps you pronounce this sentence against me with greater fear than I receive it" One can only imagine how deeply his mind was invested in to the search for truth.
@@mariannwatt2678 that's not the Church that did that. That religious institution also persecuted & killed true members of the Church for believing the truth & for wanting God's Word in a language we could read & understand. They supplanted the Church & called themselves "the Church". Now they call people who are truly of the Church "Protestants" because we protest against their false narratives & their evil ways. It's a religious institution that tries to manipulate & control people. That failed, thank God! So, they're trying other strategies. Jesus Christ will set it all straight when He comes back to judge & rule & reign.
Another theory, rather than icy rock, is that the tail and bloom that we see on a comet is an electrical charge interaction when the rock (full of metals and having it's own charge and electromagnetic field) is interacting with electromagnetic fields in our solar system. A plasma discharge, if you will! There's no doubt in my mind it could be both, a combination of theory!
My initial thoughts: I would guess by the way he is describing the way he first observed this object that it is a new comet that humans have yet to observe, possibly from deep space. Thinking about the way most of deep space is empty, I would imagine particles form on the rock as it goes, H, He, Ca random stuff. Perhaps as the comet is getting closer to earth, these particles are being warmed at different temperatures and thus as it gets closer the more it loses. Not sure if they have run the calcs on this but it is an armchair idea
Man I love when Joe has these brainy guys on. Guys that are thrilled about whatever subject they specialize in. full of passion and knowledge. It's cool seeing a smart guy that's into his work! Interesting stuff man.
He's starting his hypothesise with an open mind and not discounting anything from the get go unlike so many other scientists today who automatically discount certain things before they even begin their work which will lead to whatever they find having to fit the pre conceived scenario.
@John Johnson Nature created God. Or rather, God is the result of humanity's inability to understand the unknown. Don't know the answer? Just say God and enough idiots believe you. Thus, religion is born.
I can picture Christopher Walken in my head right now saying. Hey does your Mother Sew 🪡 well BOOM!! Get’r to Sew That!! Or even better, The cow & dah MOON 🌙 THA cow jumps over da Moon wit a Spoon 🥄 ehh🤷♂️ 🤣
And Bill O'Reilly criticized him too on his Facebook without listening to this guy... When I saw his post about this scientist, I wondered why he's criticizing him when there are multiple unexplained UFO sightings that look like extraterrestrial in origin because we don't have such advanced technology
"I will teach the world to accept the evidence." Just a general gripe that a mad scientist would have with the general populace, and who would go great lengths to expand the consciousness of those who'd be willing to prevent the scientist's apocalypse. I'd watch that Bond movie. Or Mission Impossible. Bourne. Whatever.
This clip is a perfect example of why people love this podcast. No bull shit boring filler talk, just two intelligent people asking interesting questions and having an objective conversation. Refreshing.
"Two intelligent people" no no, one intellectual, one random knuckle-dragger who pretends to just be asking questions while framing them from right-wing perspectives
That's because atleast one guy knew what he was taking about . Joe is just a normal guy , sometimes the bullshit he talks is honestly stupid and it never gets corrected.
Yeah shame on Joe for wanting to speak to people who are more knowledgeable than him, how dare he. No1 should have any right to engage with intellectuals unless they are of a precisely equal intellect, this is the only way will move forward as a society
@Jimmy Hardon His opinions should be static? people should be this thing or that thing, never mix it up and should completely ignore opinions that differ to theirs? It's right or it's left and those 2 should be separated by a wide gaping chasm? I dono man, I like the fact he's open to other opinions, and sure he can get it wrong at times but that's okay, it's okay to disagree with people sometimes without resorting to cancel culture.
Leaping from “it cannot be from earth” to “so it must be another civilisation” is a monumental flaw in his logic. I think Cox has already explained this btw, if I am not mistaken.

open minded? he is saying things to gain popularity on the internet and get more money in his pockets. Science is not like the History channel, They are not going to start talking about UFO's and Ancient Aliens just because it gets more attention, brings in more views and generates more money.
It's great to have scientists who approach their research with an open mind, however, it's also important to maintain the rigor of the scientific method and avoid jumping to conclusions without proper evidence. In the case of Dr. Loeb, while his research output is impactful, some of his colleagues have criticized him for his premature speculation and the media attention it generated without sufficient evidence to support his claims. This could be seen as detracting from the credibility of the scientific community and creating false hopes or misunderstandings. It's important to keep in mind that science is a collaborative effort, and by following the scientific method and carefully reviewing each other's work, we can maintain its integrity and advance our understanding of the world.
It's a shame that most scientists are not curious. It blows my mind that a single scientist wouldn't want to find new things. What if one of those guys actually found something that destroys what we all think about a subject and they never told anyone!!!!
