The story of 'Oumuamua, the first visitor from another star system | Karen J. Meech | TED

In October 2017, astrobiologist Karen J. Meech got the call every astronomer waits for: NASA had spotted the very first visitor from another star system. The interstellar comet -- a half-mile-long object eventually named `Oumuamua, from the Hawaiian for "scout" or "messenger" -- raised intriguing questions: Was it a chunk of rocky debris from a new star system, shredded material from a supernova explosion, evidence of alien technology or something else altogether? In this riveting talk, Meech tells the story of how her team raced against the clock to find answers about this unexpected gift from afar.

At my University we got to listen to a physicist speak. It was one of the most amazing and interesting lectures I've ever attended/heard. After he was done lecturing, he opened it up for questions. Most of the questions were about intelligent life. I stood in line waiting for my turn at the microphone. My question was simple, do you believe there is intelligent life in our known universe? He was surprised it took so long for someone to ask this question, so he turned it on me and asked me to answer it first. My answer was this: there are 100 billion Stars in our galaxy, and there are over 2 trillion galaxies in the known universe. There are approximately 6 billion earth-like planets that we know of in just our galaxy alone.. Which means there are a countless number of earth-like planets in the known universe. To shorten it up, I stated that it is mathematically impossible that we are the only planet and not just our known universe, but right here in the Milky Way galaxy where life took hold. And even if less than 1% of those planets where life took hold has intelligent life, then there are trillions and trillions of planets with intelligent life in the known universe. And how many of those civilizations are a thousand years more advanced than us? Or 50,000 years? Or a million years? Or even a billion years? So of course I believe that there is intelligent life that has the capability of cruising by Earth to check out what's going on with the youngsters... Let's just say he agreed...

Thoughts are nothing but intelligent beings who can communicate with the human subconscious. When you start to hear thoughts those are aliens from another dimension communicating with you. Choose your speaker wisely. Because these entities speak through you whenever you give them the authority to talk. Sometimes these beings are so powerful that they over take your mind without you even knowing and you become a fluent vessel for them to use so that they can communicate with other subconscious, and create different realities by using you. Every time a thought arises in your mind you are being contacted by extraterrestrial entities who travel using energy that all living and non living things can feel. Yes non living things feel to. A fragile glass object can feel the force of you throwing it on the ground because it breaks. Watch those aliens y’all lol some are here to stay. Some are not.

Reminds me of the novel Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke Set in the 2130s, the story involves a 50-by-20-kilometre (31 by 12 mi) cylindrical alien starship that enters the Solar System. The story is told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries. The novel won both the Hugo and Nebula awards

Dr Avi Loeb ( a notable Harvard Professor and astrophysicist who has been teaching astronomy at Harvard since 1993, and chaired its astronomy department ) suggested that it is a " light sail " , created by an alien civilization and being pushed by the solar winds or reflected starlight..... this large pancake-like object the size of a football field, didn’t have any of the traditional markings of an asteroid or comet and is being pushed by a force, that leaves no cometary tail....

Why does Havard have the lowest written language skills of any university of the planet? ATRUTH they are not equiped to articulate observable presence as many are. Is this why Harvard educations get better jobs, get to play with higher more influential techno;ogies. If this person acceptd communications from those of us less influential, and that it is against the very laws that govern and permit operations in space. To fire a nuclear missle at such a benevolent and molevslent people. Did you know recently a 30 metre circumfrance spacecrft I saw in the clutches of a military transport helicopter, thier people I was told were 80000 aboard and mankinfd thinks samll races Dont exist or have space flight or thy were not arround to see and observe the actual Jesus Christ speak to his people and not as his church, he called it his ministry and teaching people they arAI is in denial of benificial fathers e more than they were being told. Is the space [rpgram trying to murder every eyewitness civilization because their own l story is rhiers, possibly knew our earlier beginings. Maybe mankind should stop postulating abusing CERN and every eomputer on the planet. Each and every simple person could and would listen to their story from thier perspective. About a week later I saw the same ship in a hanger at their area 51, some technician trying to pry it open wearing a protective suit. I was told over 6000 such spacecraft have been abducted by mankinds military...... Maybe thats why the MIB movie suggesting they dont do exactly that area 51 does. They maybe tasked to prevent understanding, like the 5 second delay on all broadcasts to prevent stories from being told. I am not jiggy with it or dancing to Will Smiths cool propoganda!

A great and understandable lecture in a context that can be understood by a dimwit like me. Ms Meech didnot blind us with science and numbers. As for myself from what she said, a planet destroyed makes sense. Planets made of the same material as the Earth would have had a volcanic start. When lava sets in the throat of a volcano it is extremely hard. This may have been a splinter of that process after the planet was destroyed. The surrounding volcanic cone disintergrated leaving a hardened obsidian core. It looked very rough on the surface, like it it came out of a rough mould. Just a thought.

I named my daughter Lyra after my favorite books, His Dark Materials, and Contact. Both made into movies/pending TV show on HBO. Now I see this..... She is only two. The Lyrid meteor shower occurred a few weeks after her birth. I'm literally going through that emotional chill she is talking about. I even told the universe if you ever give me a child I hope it's when I'm 25, not too young, not too old. I had her on her due date, and she was conceived when I was 25. She is literally a Star Child. Ever since her birth there have been the most amazing occurrences in the Cosmos. She was born into the greatest time of science and I couldn't be happier. I hope she is just as passionate about it as her momma. Sorry it's long if anyone reads this. I also pronounce her name like in the movie, The Golden Compass, the first book of His Dark Materials. Books riddled with alternate realities, space dust, dark matter, which has a consciousness and Lyra can actually communicate with them.

Jade Gardner beautiful story! Lyra is a truly special just like all creatures given the gift of life! You got to see first hand the power of the human spirit, and now that you have birthed a universe inside a human body that you named to be Lyra, please always remember she now has her own life and her own dream to create and live within and has the gift from free will to do so. She is not a character within a story book fantasy to be molded into, don’t let the imagination of who you want her to be and your obsession with a fairy tale to destroy your bond with her!
