I get a lot of questions about "what kind of curve do I have?" The only way to know for sure is to have a professional assesment. Curves are almost as individual as each one of us. These videos that explain curves are meant to give you a little insight into how we begin to assess the shape of your spine. And talking to your doctor should be your first stop! An X-ray will tell you if you have an S-Curve (3 or 4 curve in terms of selecting the correct exercises) or a C-Curve. Remember that the advice in these videos is never meant to replace medical advice. Always ask your doctor if it is safe to exercise first! And then ask your doctor if the exercises are appropriate for you. Enjoy and Please let us know how we can help!

Thanks...I'm one of those people that have asked this question of you :) I've decided mine is 3-curve but exactly opposite. It seems my right hip is accentuated in photos. I've always thought of my left leg as 'shorter'' but maybe it's the really the right leg that is pulling up from the hip. Regardless, I appreciate your exercises so much. God bless!

Thank you, SuperUTube53. Consider using an x-ray, instead of how it feels. The way it feels can be very deceiving for we scolio's! :-)

the prominence of muscles in scoliosis is a function of the presence of rotation accompanying the curvature so a left convexity would have a left rotation of vertebra

Thanks for your videos! I have a curve similar to yours (right thoracic, left lumbar) and when I do the "frog exercise" or yoga "Reclined Bound Angle my left hip/thigh is so tight. Is there any exercises to help with this? Also any tips on sleeping? Thanks

+soymilkgal Good morning! The tight left hip/thigh is due to the position of the hips/pelvis in scoliosis. Never force any stretch here. Because the position of the pelvis is different for those of us with scoliosis The Reclined Bound Angle might simply not work for us. It would be like asking someone without scoliosis to bend their knee backwards. To relieve the tension in "frog" I would recommend that you try changing the position of the pelvis by bringing it towards neutral. When you are lying on your back and you lift your head to look at your hips (in the frog position preferably), do you notice one hip higher than the other? If one hip is low, try placing a wedge under it so that it brings it to level. I would recommend this mostly in an externally rotated (turned out) position. Perform the other corrections for your curve as well. The left hip/thigh may feel very weak in its new position as it tries to find strength in neutral, this is normal. Let me know if this helps. And as with all exercise, get your doctor's approval before beginning. K

How can an x-ray show a 3 or 4 curve scoliosis? I just got an x-ray yesterday but my doctor was unable to tell me which one it was. Just the degree of the top and bottom curve.

Karena thanks for the explanation so I have the 3 curve. If I am correctly understanding this... All the pain is in my left side, left arm, shoulder blade, ribcage hip and leg down to my foot... So I can do the exercises for the 3 cerf. Can this be a problem for pain in my pelvis floor as well...

Hello, Tersia, I wish I could tell you what kind of curve you have, but I would need to see you in person. I hope things are improving for you.

+Mionette Maurice Hello, Mionette! a levoscoliosis is generally a 3 or a 4. It's not specifically going to be one or the other. I'm sorry I can't be more exact.

levoscoliosis refers to a convexity to the left, dextroscoliosis refers to a convexity to the right,
