Aloha, I have a gy6 50 cc moped. And I have a electricial issue. I replaced the battery, the stator, the cdi, and ect. If I leave the bike off for more than 2 days and wen I go start it the battery act like it's dead

Nice video, thanks. And am happy to see a corner front of my Favorite car , Ford Pinto. I know that everybody blame the Pinto, but my experience was 10 years with no problems, only simple maintenance. And I was avoiding to purchase it from a Friend. Thanks again.

Hi so I have changed my rectifier. I also changed my my stator. It wasn't brand new it was of my original engine which I know it was working. And it's not likely to have same issue. My battery is draining when engine is on. I did stator test putting red into both connections and black to ground but again was reading 0 on AC this was the issue with both stators. Now I put the black and the red into both connections(not ground obviously but other 2) on the stator wire I get a reading of 40+ volts and 50+ when revving the engine. So am confident it's giving out enough AC to rectifier to change to DC. I have just ordered an wiring harness as this is my next thought on issue. Looking at the earth through my harness and it looks frayed and bubbled in sections..could a bad earth that causes this issue along with maybe other damaged wires that I can not see?? Sorry am not great at explaining. So I hope you understand. Love your content btw, keep it up. You make me want to tackle more and more on my bike.

i got an issue with my battery its weak and when i put on the charger for few secs it says battery fully charged but i know its not. how do i fix this issue? do i use the pulse mode to charge it? thanks appreciate your feedback

Thks four your excellent video I have a Piaggio Zip 2T other day I drive and same one stop me and tell me my rear lights is blinking after 2 days all my lights is blown front and rear I’m surprise my fuse don’t blown also when I drive in full throttle same times is cut don’t the speed what you think is my regulator fault thank you help appreciate

Hello. First thank you for the info in the video. I wanted to ask you a question. I have a 2007 honda sh150i and when i measure the battery it reads about 12 to max 13 volts when ideling and 15 to 15.3 when turning the throtle near the max. Is that correct in the high rpm or does it have a bad voltage regulator? Thank you.

(D/C Function / Broad charging system test) Red on POS Black on GND Start Engine @idle 13V @rev 14.5V ~10.V in either case = Problem (A/C Function / Indepth charging system test) Find Stator Find 3 cables Start bike Test each wire Each wire should read ~40V If not ~40V = Problem (AMP Function / Parasitic drain) Scooter off Remove key Disconnect NEG from battery Leave POS connected to battery Red lead to disconnected NEG Black lead from NEG to battery terminal Should read 0000 Anything bigger than 4 milli-amps = Problem ******if any corrections I'll edit this post******

I checked my stator from the main plug. The yellow gave me around 8 vac and the white around 11. Vac and with the engine reved up it will give me about 35 vac. But when I test the wires from the front with the rectifier unplugged it only gives me like .50 volts? Why is that? Please help

my battery is dying in hours, get to work, stay there for 8 hours and when is time to go home doesn't work anymore and I have to charge. The battery is 4 months old.

Hi.. My bike 400cc Brand new 1 year already change 4 batt coz batt Death.. al ready change Rectrifier , Charging coil. still happen.. they kill the batt.. charging after charge for 8'hour just below 10v..

Hey Garret! Great vids! I have a 2012 TaoTao 50. Is a Y style stator grounded at the common point/center of the stator or is it floating? If you take ohm readings from the white to yellow wires at the stator plug, shouldn’t you only be reading thru those two windings? Any suggestions on a reputable business to get a good stator?

Did you check the output voltage with the regulator rectifier disconnected? The problem might have been your regulator rectifier the whole time!

So I'm getting spark and fuel I adjusted the valves at 14 on the intake and 15 on the exhaust only thing I don't have is the compression tester and I can't get this moped to start I'm ready to pull my hair out 911.. any encouraging thoughts or direction you could give me would be so freaking thankful I appreciate it and I like your shows keep it up I'm learning things though and I appreciate your time.

if anyone can help me. bought a non running 2019 tao tao 49cc scooter. after changing the carb and flushing out the fuel system it was a perfect scoot. the brake light blew, i bought one from amazon, after i replaced it blew everything from the positive side of the battery and the in line fuse was blown. i tried a lot then saw that there was a soldering defect that shorted the low beam. since then i cant charge a battery and every time i rev the engine i blow my headlight. i have replaced the stator and regulator/rectifier . im stumped. anyone who helps gets extra presents from SANTA!!!

Thanks for the lovely video I did my check on the parasite drain check and it's showing 0.021 on my meter is it ok as I have digital speedometer n tachometer with clock on my bike.

Thanks as this was helpful. If this battery was to be a 100amph 12V battery and the system in question drains the battery very quickly, what sort of rectifier would be used to recharge the battery as quickly as drained. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Some say rectifiers can't recharge 100 amp batteries and above. Any help?

My battery keeps showing voltage from 11.5 to 16.8 V when active. The volts change every 30 seconds to anything in that range. Also when fully charged it can still struggle to start but even after a long drive when I stop the engine and start up, it struggles again. I bought a new rectifier and I am having the same issue. Could an exhausted or defect battery be causing my rectifier to keep sending in fluctuating volts as its trying to keep the battery charged?

Okay wait, I did the part where I followed the wire coming from the stator and I put the multimeter in it and without the engine running it read 12 volts so why is that if yours read zero?

omg you saved my life a little with this one. I had watched the video some time ago but just recently picked up a 50 cc buddy. It's missing the front cover - salvage auction. The fargin' rectifier was disconnected! Whether intentional or vibration I don't know but the voltage didn't drop when revving now that's it reconnected. I will be using this to deliver food as an only source of income so it's important. I had to come home yesterday as it got only to the point of kick-starting. You are the best! Now out into that 96 degree weather. lol.

I wrecked my bike last year and was almost killed in the accident by a guy rearending me, i bought one of these for $150 just to get me riding again after i recovered and i fucking hate it... runs like crap wont fucking start, battery wont stay charged ext... but for 150... i cant complain, itll kick start to life after a while

I haven't seen many magnets go bad. You might have a ground issue or possibly excess resistance in the harness

thank you for your video. A question for you about the battery and the multimeter. I have an old kymco r16 50cc 4t (2009 year) , i think that it's a GY6 motor carburetor system. I've checked the battery with my multimeter and the value is about 12.70.... when i rev up , when i increase the rpm , the multimeter gives me a value about 16.80.... is it too high? Maybe do i have to change the regulator/rectifier? Sometimes i have problems to start my scooter... my battery was off and i recharged it using a charger....

Great Videos Garrett. Particularly liked the adjustment for valves. Here are some thoughts for Future videos. Tire management - How often to replace/tread wear to stay safe, What's the difference in short case vs Long case GY6 motors, how to replace a long axle with short axle (one I am currently working on with an MZ Moskito 125R), how to replace stator, Vacuum vs Gas lines and that PITA gas valve with the vacuum line actuator, Performance Air intake system and bypass/plug vacuum lines, what else......ethanol vs Non-ethanol gas and premium vs 87 octane -ethanol wear on gaskets and fuel leak into crankcase..........replacing CCV belt.

On my 2011 Suzuki Burgman 650 my battery died. I replaced it and the next day drove around nearly 3hrs made a few stops and turned it on and off several times. Then it wouldn’t start up for me. Had to get a jump start. I set up my multi meter and started to see how much parasitic draw it was having it was bouncing around .24-.28ma. I started unplugging stuff and seeing what had an effect.... nothing until the instrument cluster, I unplugged the cluster and it dropped to .01ma. I’m going to pull the cluster apart and see if anything is damaged.

I replaced the rectifier on my scooter it’s a big one ( rectifier ) and it still won’t recharge but everything thing else works fine ... I also have a buddy 150cc it’s a fast little monkey and it’s stock and it goes 50-52 mph kinda scary since it’s so small it kinda wobbles past 47.mph .. I got a rear flat what the size is the nut to remove rear wheel... oh’ could I put rear tire size 4.00 x 10” instead of the stock 3.50 x 10 “ it rides so low that some times I tap the oil cool thats under the battery compartment when I go up some drive ways ??

I love your fitst couple of episodes. Not problems I'm currently having but enlightening(no pun intended) nonetheless. I'd like to hear a simple description of the main functional differences between a Vespa, which I think we all wish we were driving, and the cheap chinese one I'm actually driving. So far the lessons seem universal(props on that) but I'd be interested in knowing when you get into engine/exhaust/component systems how much variation to expect or if they maintain a certain standard of quality control that means I can apply what I learn to my ride just that easy. Keep up the good work.

That's a really interesting idea! It would be really neat to do the LX150 against that LX150 clone! Or even an old PX against one of the Indian PX clones like the Bajaj or the Stella!

Just wanted to say thanks for this video. Helped me trace a faulty seat opening actuator on a Vespa GTS 300 as being the cause of a battery drain that killed the battery on a brand new bike after 1 week! Pulled fuses untik draw dropped from 250ma to 0.004 ma (I wouldn't have known a good reading without this video) then went through the things associated with that fuse. When i pulled the seat actuator it dropped to 0.004ma. Now just need to get it all done under warranty. Thanks for getting us back on the road.

Having a starting issue, the bike turns over but does not start. When I kick start it does the same thing. I have a dong fang 50cc scooter. I have replaced the battery, cdi, ignition coil, and spark plug. It just keeps making the same noise.

Really the only way to get a good charge on the battery is with a battery charger. Riding the scooter will charge the battery up but you may experience a shorter battery life

Man that's a weird one. Most of the time a blown fuse is due to a short in the harness. But if the scooter cranks and won't start AND has spark I would try a quick valve clearance check. That is of course unless the scooter has been sitting for a while, in which case I would suspect the carburetor.

Honestly there really is no benefit to a lithium battery in a scooter. And they are more finicky to maintain. Its actually not good for them to be charged by the scooter's charging system like a regular battery.

These are some great tips! I gotta get myself a multi meter! Ever since I had my 49cc scooter upgraded to a 100cc I've been getting all sorts of problems! I recently find myself having to constantly charge my battery every few days, so after watching this video I am convinced that there definitely must be something draining my battery while it's off.

Yes. Definitely start with replacing the reg/rec and then retest. A shorted stator can cause a lot of issues down stream! Good luck my friend!

Thanks for the video. I'm sure it will help someone. Its nice to get some in depth detail I have a suggestion for another episode. How to adjust the idle. And not "Where is the idle screw". I think we all know HOW do adjust it, but where to adjust it is the real problem. How to diagnose it when its too low, and too high, etc.

Wow that is an excellent suggestion! Coincidentally my next planned video will be a carburetor rebuild video. Maybe I will make it a 2 part series and have the second video be "how to properly adjust your carburetor"

Garret help! besides other problems I had with my Yamaha Zuma 50 (2004) now I've learned that the battery dies super fast even after being charged (dont own a charger myself, took it to my local autoparts store) so the electric start will not work. Example: I had it charged, connected it, horn worked fine. Tried electric start and made that "wah wah" sound you talked about and scooter wouldnt start (it only starts with the kickstart which thanks to you I've learned today that you shouldnt use it everyday) and then right after the horn wouldnt even work, just clicks, test it with my $10 multimeter and it reads less than 10v. How could it die in a matter of minutes or seconds even? I bought that battery on December 2019. Also checked the battery while running and it was about 7 or 9v (not 13 or 14 like you said if the stator is working fine). Hope you read this :( thank you and I love your videos bro you one of the best RU-vidrs in my opinion.

Sounds like you might have both a bad battery AND a parasitic drain. Good thing you have that multimeter! You're going to need to use it!

Big fan! My Kymco 150 has stripped spine threads on the end of crank Shaft! Expensive to fix? Considering 2020 lance classic Cali 200. Good scooter? Reliable brand? Thx

I'll be honest with you I'm not too familiar with the cali 200. I've worked on a lot of cali classic 125s and they were of varying quality. The Lance brand has had its share of lemons like the pch 125 for instance. I dont think they make as good of a product as kymco and genuine (pgo) but a little better than the off brand Chinese stuff.

I did that to my ruckus. Got a new drive face and filed the threads with a small triangle file. The kickstart washer is the only thing engaging the shitty threads but it still works.

I think my brain regulator is faulty as all info is going in my ears but then it gets lost somewhere and I don’t know where, so I guess it’s the regulator

Hi, is there a sequence for wires when you connect them from stator to the regulator/rectifier ? Does it matters where any of the 3 yellow cable enter the regulator/rectifier (also yellow) ? A "smart" dude cut the soket . TY !

Excellent question! Actually it does not matter where the stator wires enter the regulator rectifier. All of that voltage all ends up in the same place and leaving as DC on the "voltage out" wire. Throw them back where you please!

I have a Peugeot Speedfight 4 scooter. When the engine is off, a current of 12 mA is drawn from the battery at regular 2-second intervals. Is this a fault? Could this current be drawn by the immobilizer or ECU system? As a result, the battery becomes unable to start the engine after a week of inactivity.

Please help!!! I have low voltage at the battery, and it drains it. I measured voltage at the stator, like you did in the middle of the video. When its unplugged voltage is good, about 45v (+/-) but when plugged in, it drops to about 4-5v same at the voltage regulator. I get same voltage at the battery, regardless of engine RPM

@@Scooter_911 I have a new rectifier and new stator.. if I unplug rectifier and tone pins, they are all somehow, somewhere connected to ground.. how where could they be connected to ground? Is this even the right way of testing?

I have a question I cant seem to find the answer for. I have a 2012 Genuine Buddy 170i. I have no spark and no fuel. What would control both of those?

The ignition switch on the 170i is very particular and has some small circuit built into the back of it. The regular buddy 125/150 switch bolts right up and plugs in but the bike will not run. Other than that make sure you have good power and connection to the ECM (engine control unit) and check all of your fuses!
