When running pick & roll, hitting the roll man can open up your offense to a lot of open shots opportunities. No matter what coverage the defense is running, you can hit the roll man - and if done correctly, that will create an advantage for your offense.
This advantage is something I refer to as "the moment of truth". The reason being, the defense is scrambling to recover, and your offense has a very short period of time to take advantage and get an open shot. The roll man has to make a definitive decision, and the other offensive players have to have good spacing. In this video, you will see multiple examples of reads that will need to be made in these situations, and you'll get to see both successful and unsuccessful plays out of it.
I do not own the right to these clips or this music.

Your channel needs to get picked up by the algo, this is super digestable even for an amateur enthusiast like myself who feels like "plays" and "strategies" are "rocket science". You're demystifying the game for me one clip at a time. Salute!

Man, I really appreciate the compliment! So glad to hear you’re getting value from the videos. Being a coach for over 10 years I know a lot of basketball enthusiasts who don’t get the chance to see the game broken down like this and WANT it. Happy to help you grow!

isn‘t a 45 cut a cut from the wing (45)? what makes it a 45 cut if its a cut from the corner?

I use the term 45 cut, personally, when someone cuts from the top of the key/slot/wing/corner because the concept is the same no matter where the man is cutting from. I know the term was coined because of the 45 degree angle from the wing to the basket - I just think for communication purposes when teaching players, they understand the concept and can pick it up faster if there’s not 4 different words for the same cut from different places on the court. I believe the term “back door” is specific to a defender overplaying their match up and your cut to the rim (that’s just my personal opinion) so I don’t want to use that term when some “45 cuts” out the corner because it’s not the same thing. Ultimately, it’s all semantics and the goal is to get players to know how to play the game instinctually & with high iQ, and I’ve found it easier to just use 1 term for that cutting action. But I’m open to the discussion when someone disagrees anytime.

@@TheFilmRoom1 oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense! by that definition a „45 cut“ is any cut looking to attack players „zoning up“ to counter a temporary disadvantage (like a double team or putting 2 on the ball on a ball screen), right? hope that makes sense 😂. other than that thank you very much for your content, there’s not many people bringing quality basketball content like you do! also i wasnt trying to disprove anything, just to understand your definition!

Not a problem at all! I always welcome discussions like this, because it helps everyone. And what you described is exactly how I teach it to the players I coach. It does bother me that it’s technically not a 45 degree angle from the corner, but I think it’s the best way to teach the concept. Thanks for asking the question, and the kind words! Love hearing that the content is helping people. If you have requests/suggestions - send them my way!
