The North Coast 500 (NC500) is often dubbed Scotland’s answer to Route 66. Spanning over 500 miles of stunning coastal scenery, the route starts and ends in Inverness, winding its way through some of the most dramatic landscapes the UK has to offer. The journey from Dunnet Head to Rispond Beach takes you through the northernmost reaches of this iconic route, where the scenery becomes even more remote and awe-inspiring.
As you drive from Dunnet Head, the northernmost point of mainland Britain, you’ll experience a dramatic shift in the landscape. The bustling towns give way to the serene, rugged beauty of the Highlands. The route is characterized by its single-track roads, which meander through rolling hills, along cliff tops, and past secluded beaches. These roads offer a unique driving experience, with plenty of passing places to allow for smooth travel despite the narrow paths.
Towards the end of the video, you’ll witness a stunning sunset over the Highlands as I slow down and look for a place to pull over for the night.
