Scotland North Coast 500 DAY 3 - Kylesku Bridge, Ullapool & MORE 

Hey Shawn, Your energy and positivity grows on me, and have been feeling abit down lately due to my current work. I kinda find watching your videos takes me away and lets me forget the things that makes me feel bad. So thank you for making these videos.

This trip was absolutely awesome, Shawn. We loved watching it around New Year. I enjoyed it all, but especially the incredible waterfalls at Corrieshalloch Gorge and Rogie Falls.

Thank you for your great video! In September '23 my wife and I will be doing this route from Ullapool to Durness in our motorhome. We are really looking forward to it, especially crossing the Kylesku Bridge. Your video is a real "starter" to the main course for me. That's why I watch it again and again. Thank you very much again - especially for your totally likeable way of leading through the video, which is great!

Shame about the rain in BAL NA KEEL. The yellow plant you see everywhere is gorse - very prickly. The Corrieshalloch Gorge was stupendous! Really enjoying your enthusiasm and it's obvious you have done your research on places to see, things to do. Your camera and especially the zoom facility is brilliant. You are the number one NC500 RU-vidr because you take the time to visit things properly (some folk will say "I'm not paying £12 to go inside that old castle" - well you have shown why it is worthwhile checking everything out).

Top tip! always buy a single fish and separate portion of chips, that way the batter on the fish stays dry and crips while you're tucking into it. In a fish Supper the fish is placed on top of the fish and the batter goes all soft.

Did you turn into Achmelvich Beach by any chance? It's probably the best in the area, with almost white sand protected by rock outcrops to the southwest; and if you've brave (or foolish) enough to take a quick dip, you'll be rewarded by crystal clear water occupied by thousands of tiny fish where it's ankle-deep, giving way to medium-sized fish at knee depth and eventually, large shoals of herring - so do make sure you have a snorkel (and preferably a wetsuit, as it is usually pretty cold! Behind the beach are a million tiny flowers within the soft, springy grass that is known as Machair (MACH-AIR) and the amazing mountain shaped like a camel's hump, which is called Suilven (SOOL-VEN). If you're up that way again, go into Lochinver (and the pie/fish shop; then continue onto the unclassified road at the far end of the village, that has several dire warning signs that say it's unsuitable for just about everything - and actually, it isn't kidding; though you'd be okay in a normal-sized car, preferably with power steering and 4WD! IF as you say, you're a really good driver, as it will make the B road behind you seem like the M25 by comparison... (DON'T attempt it anything larger though as you WON'T get around the hairpin bend in the middle!) The advantage is of course the scenery around Stac Pollaidh (which sounds like Stack Polly) which is sure to delight even more than you've already seen! It returns you to the main route a few miles north of Ullapool. Kylesku is pronounced KYLE-SKOO by the way - no need for Les in the middle! Balnakeil would be BAL-NA-KEEL in English, though the Gaelic/local pronunciation is closer to BALLY-NA-KEEL. And it's the CORRIE-SHALL-OCH Gorge, by the way!

I'd love to go to Scotland some day seen as it's the country of my families bloodline. It really is a beautiful country and I can see that even more through watching your fantastic videos Shawn. Unfortunately though I don't own a car and from where I am the train prices are outrageously expensive even to get to Glasgow it's like £220 I think.

Good video, done most of (but not all) the NC 500 roads myself & like you evidently are doing, I enjoyed them. But what I like most about your videos Shawn is how your positivity & joie de vivre really comes across no matter what you are observing. A ruined church may be mundane to some people but your enthusiasm is seemingly boundless - all power to your camera shutter I say!

Im so glad your enjoying Scotland. I Feel extremely lucky to live here. Not done the NC 500 but its on the bucket list now thanks to you. I think those single track roads would be scarier than most roller coasters Orlando could throw at me.

Really great road-trip vlog :) I knew Scotland had some nice views, but not this many! Reminds of mountain areas here in Norway, and especially the Northern Norway, both the scenery and the weather :D

Next time get ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway, tour Isle of Lewis/Harris, then ferry to Isle of Skye, then back to mainland over the Skye bridge, then back through Glencoe. In my opinion, it's much better than the NC500. The beaches and mountains are 😍
