So what we've learned here is that Knives telling Scott that she likes his shaggy hair results in them ending up together, but her telling him that he should probably get it cut results in him being with Ramona. Envy inadvertently controls the future of Scott's love life.

I prefer the original one. Knives may be the "right girl", but Scott is not even close to be the "right guy". Scott and Ramona both have been hurt and hurt other people, so they can deal better with each other's baggage. Knives still has an entire life ahead.

That's actually a really good point. At first I liked this one more, but thinking about it Knives really did deserve better. As much as I like this ending, I also prefer the original.

Gabriel Morgan Just my thoughts. At first, I didn't like the other ending. I liked this one 'cause the other left me... kind of empty. Thinking about it, I still like this one very much 'cause I love Knives. She just makes me happy. So kinda want her to be happy too (silly, right ^^ ?). But what you both said was true. Knives does have a lifetime to get a better boyfriend. Ramona and Scott are somewhat a better match.
@DreamSaber

I agree with you on that one. Wallace did mention to Knives that she is too good for him. Also Scott was trying to push something that was never going to happen with Knives. Always listen to Wallace because Wallace knows best. Scott is Wallace's bitch. ^_^

Bri Fitzmaurice To me, I like the theatrical version because it shows a lot more maturity for Scott. Remember, the only reason why he hooked up with Knives before was because "she was safe" as well as being young and naive. In addition to that, with the original ending, with Scott getting with Knives would have represented a step back from his emotional maturity. But, that's just my interpretation with what we see in the film, as well O'Malley noting the inspirational source for the comics in the first place.

It's a really weird ending because Knives didn't suddenly stop being too young for Scott, and they'd barely spoken since they broke up so it's not like their relationship had evolved. All they did was beat up some guy together. Also, she needs to break up with Neil. I get that Knives ended up being a more sympathetic character than either Ramona or Scott and people want a happy ending for her, but Scott was never really in love with her and there's no indication that changed.

Yeah, this is a sweet ending in its own way, but not nearly as satisfying. The film all but stresses how Scott and Knives being together doesn't make a lot of sense. And, Scott spends the entire film fighting for Ramona, so for them to not end up together doesn't feel right. In fact, it kind of takes away from KNIVES' character arc, as it literally takes away the "I was too good for you anyway" factor.
8 лет назад
You forget that he ended up figthting for himself in his second life, not for Ramona and not for Knives, that's what gave him the strongest power-up and made him capable to defeat Gideon, so he could've ended with any of them.
@OrangeRangerVideos
@OrangeRangerVideos 8 лет назад
Rubén Rodríguez I get that, but the focus of the film was still fighting to win Ramona. In the end yes he learned to fight for self-respect, that love wasn't enough. But love was still the primary motivation.
@CyanideFilledCandy
@CyanideFilledCandy 8 лет назад
I think the purpose of the original ending (and the film itself) was for Scott to grow up and realize his own immaturity and flaws. He doesn't get Ramona in the end because not everything we want is necessarily what we need or wind up getting. The focus of the film (and comic) WAS that he was fighting for Ramona, but that was the wrong thing to fight for. Even still, my friends and I agree that the movie ending was more to our liking. This ending kind of ruins Knives' character arc. She was originally obsessed and dependent on Scott, and learns to stand on her own two feet. Of course, there's nothing saying she won't just apply all this to her new relationship with Scott (which is likely), but....we all agree, she IS too cool for him. We felt like Ramona and Scott deserved each other. Frankly, I would've much preferred an ending where no one ended up with anyone. Everyone learns and grows from the experience (except Ramona apparently, which is why I don't necessarily like HER with Scott) and moves on and applies it to their future.

But they work so well together. I actually like this ending better. In the beginning he was dating knives for all the wrong reasons, bad breakup and not a very mature person, but by the end of the movie he had settled with his ex and matured to the point to where he realized what he actually wanted. Ramona was just there to help facilitate that, she more than likely would have eventually left anyways it is just who she is.

In my opinion, I like the original ending better. It gives Scott, Ramona, and Knives a better “moral” story arc. Scott and Ramona perfectly fit with each other because they are both bad people who have a known past about being bad to previous lovers, but instead of them once again running away from their problems and not admitting what they did was wrong, they decide to admit their previous wrong doings and get together to face against their past. It gives Knives a better story arc too because it shows that she cares so much for Scott, to the point where she’ll let him go with Ramona, if that’s what’ll make him happy. Just like Wallace said, Knives is too GOOD for Scott. Not as in being cooler, but as in being too much of a better person than Scott. Knives deserves a nicer guy. This ending is a bit more cliche in my opinion. If you’ve read this entire thing, thank you! (Sorry for wasting your time)

Anyone who read the books knows why this is the worse ending of the two. Scott and Ramona were perfect for each other because they both had awful pasts and were at their core bad people. I find movie Scott to be different with comics Scott. For the comics, it's fine that scott and ramona ended up together. Ramona is more fleshed out and not as a cold girl like in the movie. Here in the movie, Scott should have not ended up with anyone and just be friends with both of them and help Ramona to stop running away from her problems. So weird though, movie Knives stood out to me more than her comic book counterpart. She was meh in the books. Maybe has to do with the actress(or Edgar prefer Knives).
@ArtyomStrayheart

I think this ending is just the more down to earth and realistic one. The original ending does work better for a classic story, with scott fighting for her love an all, but I also like this ending because it can't all just work like that. You might find yourself fighting for someone just for it to not work out in the end. Of course I'm sad about Knives not getting her character development, but the overall feeling of this seems just more real to me.

I like the alternate ending better. It show's Scott's come to terms with the fact that he's basically become the 8th evil ex (they're friendly) and rejected it (they're separate people). It shows as he doesn't become number 8 for Ramona and, instead, let's her go on her way, finally free of her controlling ex's, but also now lacking a lover (for now) because of her past failures. Meanwhile Scott's returned to Knives, whom is in harmony with him and they work together, becoming an honest boyfriend instead of someone who basically used her to get what he wanted (Ramona) before putting her aside. He comes to terms with what he was becoming, rejected it, and became an honest and loyal boyfriend instead of just another guy using people to get what he wanted.
@bf5250
@bf5250 5 лет назад
This is a better ending because it follows the movie’s version of Scott’s character development. The movie is much more blatant about the idea that his single-minded pursuit of Ramona is hurting him and damaging his life and draws more overt parallels to how that behavior mirrors the Evil Exes. The comic compares him more directly to Gideon and uses their shared desire to ‘acquire’ Ramona to show how easily Scott could become another Gideon. In the comic, Scott’s second sword is The Power of Understanding, allowing him to come to terms with his negative aspects and overcome them to be with Ramona. In the movie, it’s The Power of Self-Respect instead; he’s able to move beyond acting solely in pursuit of Ramona and make decisions for himself. He fights Gideon because Gideon is a jerk and Scott wants to kick his ass. Knives also learns a lesson about treating people like goals and obstacles when Scott admits he cheated on her, breaking Knives’s childish illusion that Scott is some magical perfect being. Knives can accept Ramona as a person because of this. When Gideon abuses Ramona, Knives can now be angry on Ramona’s behalf and chooses to fight him. Scott and Knives are synchronized emotionally at that point, which is why the fight scene replicates the Ninja Ninja Revolution two-player sequence. Then they play Ninja Ninja Revolution together again at the end, meaning they play it three times, fulfilling the rule of three in traditional narrative structures. Scott doesn’t put the hat on between camera cuts, and Knives says she likes it that way. Having acquired The Power of Self-Respect, Scott is no longer so self-conscious that he immediately needs to conceal his hair when someone comments on it. His missing hat exposes his vulnerabilities to Knives, who sees him and loves Scott for Scott. We also see that Scott’s matured and become more capable of having an equal, responsible relationship because he’s no longer expecting Knives to pay for their arcade games together. The comic’s story built up to Scott and Ramona. This story built up to Scott and Knives. If you like the ending they used more, that’s fine. But if you think that narratively, it makes more or equal sense, you’re wrong.

I think this ending would have had more of an impact on its audience, thrown them for a loop, have Scott realize he was fighting for the wrong thing the entire time. As a fellow who's had practically everything handed to him, who's lived his life as it came at a slacker's pace, having to actually work for something helped him learn something about himself, including what he actually wants. It helps that Knives and Scott had a pretty good chemistry in the film.

He didn’t love Ramona, he was infatuated with her. She was a fantasy. I think the door is actually a really good metaphor for this. In the theatrics ending, he walks through the door, choosing to avoid reality. In this ending, Ramona walks through alone, leaving him in reality with the girl he started with, and he now has a newfound maturity and appreciation for her. In the books it may be different, but in the movie, Scott and Knives had a real connection and a healthy relationship. I never got that sense from Scott and Ramona.

@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 hmm interesting thoughts. I'll be honest and say I have never read the book. In the film though I definitely had the sense that Ramona was the one he wanted to be with with Knives being someone a bit young for him who he didn't treat so well and felt bad about but like they were meant to be friends. I think that’s just because of how they changed both their personalities from the comics. In the comics, Scott is an ass (but way less of an ass than in the movie) and Ramona is still distant but still loving (unlike her cold movie part). But I still like the movie ending of Scott and Ramona ending up together. Scott’s a total asshole and Ramona is cold and constantly running from her problems, they are perfect for each other (which is what I think the movie writers were going for - and Bryan Lee O’Marley was ok with because he wanted them both to be shitty people anyway).

To be honest I hated the theatrical ending of the movie where Scott walks off with Ramona because it left me empty. I thought it would have been more interesting if he took back Knives because he realised he only had a crush on Ramona and after defeating her evil exes he thought to himself, "is she really worth it? was she worth fighting for?". The point I'm trying to make is you don't fight for a someone's heart, it finds you.

The problem was if you read the comics Scott and Ramona ended up being perfect for eachother. Scott realised that he was a shitty person but he over came that and learned to come to terms with his past. I like this ending better. The entire end of the movie was really more about him learning about himself and the feelings of others. I think it makes more sense for him to realize he was going to hurt Knives the way Envy hurt him. It's hard to say if it's better this way though since he seemed to "love" Ramona more, but you could argue that was infatuation, and something with Knives would be a lot more pure since he'd really care about her since he can relate.

Just watched this movie again and it only reaffirmed my view that Scott and Knives are the real couple here. In my opinion, this movie is all about personal growth. Both Scott and Knives needed to gain self-respect. Scott was living in a fantasy, chasing a dream girl that he hardly knew. And why was he so infatuated with her? We never find out. There’s no reason given, he just is. I think this was intentional on the part of the filmmakers. It’s meant to show that Scott is still thinking of love in an immature, superficial way. He doesn’t appreciate the more real connection that he and Knives have because he’s too busy pursuing an unfounded obsession. On the other hand, we have plenty of real, documented reasons for why Scott and Knives are a good couple. This ending, with Ramona walking through the door alone, almost has a poetic element to it. When the door closes, all that’s left is the real world, the fantasy is over. Before, Scott was afraid to face reality. He wanted to escape, that was the appeal of Ramona, but now, he realizes that he already had his dream girl, she was there the whole time. He’s matured and finally ready to start living his life. Going back to play the game again shows that Scott has come to accept that those seemingly little, mundane things he was taking for granted are actually what make a relationship last. He never had them with Ramona, but he’s always had them with Knives. That’s why the two of them had much better chemistry throughout the movie. All this is to say, this ending was and still is my favorite.

To all those who prefer this ending..... No. I get how it's filmed and how Knives is pretty much the best human being in the entire cast, but the movie spends its entire run CORRECTLY waving red flags to signal how damaging the relationship between the 22 year old "man" and the 17 year old literal child is. The ending where the 22 year old "man" ends up with the 17 year old literal child is BAD. Not just bad in the "OMG, that grown man is literally dating a child" sense, but in that it throws everything else the movie was trying to say about Scott's mental state leading into the "relationship" with his "fake high school girlfriend" and the damaging effect his emotional manipulations had on Knives. Edit: Someone else mentioned in another comment another MAJOR problem with this ending that's way too easily overlooked: Young Neil. To our knowledge, Knives is still with Neil, meaning that Knives is now doing to him exactly what Scott did to her in the beginning of the film. That just shows you how utter DOGSHIT this ending is. Here, Scott (and Ramona) not only doesn't grow, but he drags down everyone around him. In the ending we got--the GOOD ending--Scott and Ramona grow, or at least get to the place where they can start to grow, and Knives overcomes the effects of a predatory relationship rather than becoming more like the predator (which is exactly what Scott is in the "Knives" alternate ending).

I would have liked the movie more if Scott ended up with Knives instead of Ramona. Just because a girl is exciting and mysterious and all the guys want her, doesn't mean she's the right girl for you. You know something? I really don't understand why so many people prefer that other ending instead of this one. Scott was no longer the player as he once was earlier in the Movie and so its only logical that he goes with the only person that really loves him which is Knives, a happy ending to the reborn hero. Meanwhile, Ramona will look into herself and MAYBE once she drop all that excess crap she can be like Peter Parker Felica and play around Scott but nothing more.

Ramona was never more than a fantasy, he was obsessed with her for superficial reasons, while he and Knives actually had things in common and had much better chemistry throughout. Scott had to go on this wacky, fantastical journey to realize that his dream girl was right in front of him all along. I think that’s what makes this ending so beautiful from a narrative standpoint.

This ending makes way more sense, especially since the movie spent so much time in developing how Knives and Scott are alike. Knives geeked on Scott the way Scott geeked on Envy and Ramona. Once Knives stopped geeking on Scott and leveled up to Scott's level, they were both equally matched and became a powerhouse couple. Ramona was basically a side quest. That's why her story is never really developed. Even at the end, she's still shrouded in mystery. She's an NPC with a specific function, to level up our protagonists. Her evil exes are basically previous questers who never progressed. Scott ending up with Ramona makes him the same as the exes, a noob hunter that pwns the next noob to come along.

This is the only ending that makes sense. Ramona and Scott's relationship was an exact reflection of the relationship between Ramona and Gideon. She WAS aloof and uncaring and Scott was obsessed. Everything Scott did Ramona's only response was, "sure whatever". Everything about the movie was based around Scott's relationship with Knives. The whole video game theme was the game that he plays with Knives. Ramona did not give a shit about Scott or his music. His Obsession with Ramona even ruined his relationship with his band while Knives was 💯% in support of him and his music and wanted to be involved. The whole lesson to be learned was he needed to appreciate his life and his relationship with Knives and that he needed to treat her better. Everyone at first thought his relationship with Knives was dumb but by the end of the movie knives had made friends with everyone and they all realized she was actually really cool and she really cared about him. When everyone was angry with Scott and he felt like he was on his own Knives was still there for him. Knives was best girl.

For those of you that keep complaining about which ending is better, both endings had its own bright side to it. This ending shows how Ramona thankful for Scott for making it this far to be with her she cares for Scott that she is willing to give up her chance to finally be with him and leave far away for his sake. Scott left with this conclusion sees that he can now return to his precious little life again and knives will be at his side. so Ramona did this for Scott in return (next)

If that were me I’d demand she help me with the next fight or it’s over, since they’re HER exes and in any case I’m literally putting my life at risk for her, the least she can do is help, unless she doesn’t care, but in that case she can go pound sand and I’ll find someone else who does care. I don't hate this ending and even despite the obvious issues with the relationship, I see the sweetness in it, but at the same time, let's be honest, Scott was using Knives to feel better about his shitty life. He didn't have a job, his friends don't like him, and he doesn't even have a place to call his own. Suddenly, this very impressionable young girl meets him and thinks he's amazing because he's a child in an adults body. Scott then uses her admiration to boost his ego. He brags to her about his middling band, impresses her with useless video game knowledge, and basically just soaks in all her praise to heighten himself. The only thing Knives gets out of this relationship is just admiring someone older she sees as cooler. It's not healthy, in spite of the rare moments of chemistry they have, like being good at games together. The entire point of the movie was for Scott to realize how he treated Knives was terrible and get the self-respect he needed act his age and actually fight for things he wants. Ramona and him may not last, but it's a relationship he needs to explore in order to grow. Knives wouldn't be able to give that to him and he sure wouldn't be able to do much for Knives.

I don’t know. I know people are iffy about Scott ending up with Knives...but I sort of like this ending better. It’s Scott’s development as well. Remember from the final fight scene? In order to beat Gideon he couldn’t fight for Romana anymore. He had to fight for himself. So, even though he’s been trying so hard the *whole* movie to end up with this girl, this one crazy spontaneous girl who may seem like the best thing in the moment, we all know where that goes. It happened in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, if any of you have seen that. (Great movie, by the way.) I think this sort of shows Scott growing up. Romana as well, actually. She’s been through so many relationships, so much shit. I feel like the best character for her to end up with is herself. Single. Now you may say that sounds “sad and lonely”, but I completely disagree. One can be totally fulfilled without being stuck in a relationship and I look at this ending as Ramona herself deciding to focus on RAMONA and not anyone else. Scott get’s a grown up sense of stability and Romana some form of self-acceptance. Did that make sense? Tell me if that made sense. It’s early in the morning and I was thinking about this right when I woke up. Anyways...yeah. I like both endings but this personally is my favorite.

I think one of the main takeaways from Scott Pilgrim in general is that sometimes you have to fight for a relationship. Knives was Scott's rebound girl. He was dating her because she was unconditionally obsessed with him, and a result, she was easy. Ramona was more complicated, and while Scott had to literally fight for her, Scott's love for Ramona seemed more genuine. By having Scott end up with Knives instead of Ramona, it completely cuts out any character growth for Knives because she's never shown to drop her stalker-like obsession for him and it sends the message that we should go with what's easy instead of what's more fulfilling and genuine, that we should automatically run away whenever someone gets hurt. This ending makes me really uncomfortable.

I feel like the other ending was way better because I just can't take Scott Pilgrim who's 23 years old dating a 17 year old Chinese girl from a catholic high school seriously. It just felt wrong in my opinion and it also breaks the point of the whole movie where Scott is fighting for Ramona's love. The other ending is better in my opinion because it was just overall more satisfying to see Scott get what he's been fighting for the whole movie and it left a bigger and better impact for me rather than this ending where it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

VideoGameFan55 in the comics knives was 18 by the gideon fight and at that point it made sense for him to be w ramona he fought for her every single vol and if he got w knives in the theatrical ending and then they made vol 6 and thats how it ended it would be dissapointing from a reader of the comics standpoint

I like the ending we got because Scott doesn't end up with the person who's life he just ruined, even if the build up that the movie had just went to waste

*This ending will always break my heart. Knives’s and Ramona’s character developments are both just shattered here, just for Scott’s. It’s emotional but realistic.*

It's amazing. I mean I know I prefer the happy Ramona and Scott ending but this was sad and sweet and lovely all at the same time. Good effort on an alt ending.

The score in this is magical. God damn, I love Nigel Godrich's work.
