Important update Sep-2-2023: If you plan to do your own scratchbuild project using the Monster Model Works brick sheets, I strongly recommend you avoid the 1/8" thick sheet unless you own your own laser cutter (which I do not). See Part 2 of the Sheridan Hotel series for more details.

Glad you're excited. I'll try not to make you wait too long, but I'm finding that working with 1/8" thick basswood is more difficult than I expected: all knife cuts have to be sanded square, and cutting window and door openings will be a challenge. I'll get there, but this is the part that can't be rushed...

You've provided an excellent presentation on the preparation for a successful scratch-build of a visually unique structure. While not everyone might be interested in the exact materials you selected, your choice of suppliers and styles would be a very useful starting point for similar items. Thanks for sharing.

Years ago, I fell in love with Randy Ragg's Hotel Lemon, which was produced as a kit in O and S scale only, It wasn't until I started planning my Sheridan Hotel that I realized how similar those two structures are - proof that you can build a great structure in brick, clapboard, or some other siding choice. Once I had decided on brick, I had to choose between plastic brick sheets (e.g. JTT) or wood. I chose the MMW sheets because I like the irregular brick look. Now that I am cutting walls and window/door openings, I'm starting to regret my choice - cutting 1/8" thick basswood is HARD. However, I have a plan on how to handle that... Stay tuned.

This looks like a great project!. I think you may be undestimating th age of this building. Fort Logan was opened i the late 1880's. This architecure style would be appropriate to that era.

I found a 1930 Sanborn map for Sheridan Colorado online - it shows a brick building with a front balcony where this building stands, so I presume it is the same building. Obviously the building was built before 1930, but for equally obvious reasons, I didn't want to knock on the front door and ask the owners. So: 1880s or 1920s? Either date is certainly plausible, and I have no way of knowing which is more correct, but it doesn't really matter for my purposes. For some truly incredible early twentieth century architecture, check out the neighborhood around 3702 W Princeton Circle, which is on the grounds of Fort Logan. I think these were generals' houses!

@@rwissbaum9849 After watching your video I had been able to locate the building and viewed it in ""street view". I really like your structures. I model in N scale and rely a lot on kit bashing. I don't yet trust my scratch building skills.

Not sure I would have the courage to scratchbuild in N scale! One, the selection of materials is much more limited; and two: all the parts are a lot more fiiddly, requiring steadier hands and better eyesight. I am constantly amazed at Michael's work on @Chandwell.
