Came here after learning about the news, man this really hits hard since Sweet Oblivion was one of the albums that helped me during one really hard time in my life, and all of Mark's work with QOTSA being an all time favorite for me, Dollar Bill remains as my favorite song from them Rest in Peace Mark, we will always love you
I think, unfortunately, because none of them publicly struggled with addiction, nor did their lyrics invoke the same teen angst as the other bands of the time. The fact Screaming Trees was really conveying a deeper and more universally relatable adult insight to life, is actually what kept them from selling more. Kids want simple sadness that doesn't require much thought...that's what sells
@@llmm1913 But he didn't get the media attention over it the way Layne and Kurt Cobain did. Like it or not, that drove as much interest in AIC and Nirvana as their music did
With the help from Mark Lanegans book 'Sing backwards and weep' im now 1 year clean.....if anyone knows, see,'s or hears from him....thank him, truely from the bottom of my heart....Mark, you literally saved my life....
@@gordocojones How about their Anthology CD that features songs from their deleted '80's albums like Buzz Factory and Invisible Lantern. The progression from "Barriers" to the final four or five tracks shows their progression from goofy garage band to the brink of the grunge big leagues.
@@josuearnold9652 Technically yes. But if so then The Melvins and Nirvana weren't Seattle bands either. They were from Aberdeen and the Gray's Harbor area. Beat Happening wouldn't have been a Seattle band either. They were from Olympia.
Can’t believe the news. You have no idea how much you influenced my life. I love you Mark, rest in peace. Gonna watch from the balcony, sing backwards and weep🖤
I liked it, but i can understand why it's underrated. It's because their sound is too soft and mellow in comparison with all the other bands from the grunge movement. Exemple gratia: Nirvana sound was kind of punk rock; AIC, hard rock; Soundgarden,, metal and so on. Their sound(Screamng Trees) is cute, even radio-friendly, caress my ears, but it's not heavy enough to call atention.
Simply put, this is the most underrated band of all time. I grew up in the early to mid 90s and for the life of me, I cannot understand why they werent absolutely huge. Phenomenal band.
Rest In Peace Mark Lanegan This song got me through some rough times in my life and was always a favorite. Thanks for leaving a legacy of great music during your time on earth.
Why is it a shame? That these little gems aren't well known is what makes them special to people like us.. These songs attract a certain kind of person. If it was popular mass market it wouldn't be the same.
I was in 10th grade when the whole grunge thing happened and rock music became king again. The Trees have a special place that none of my other favorite bands never have. I like all the old stuff...doors, hendrix, zep, fleet, beatles, stones and theres STP, Chains, Trees, N and some hate PJ for some reason yet they got their place in my heart too. Never forget the first time I heard "alive" on a youth convention in the mountains w the unitarian church. The trees make me think of how a dream I had recently made me feel....one parent was going one way and the other was going the other and I had to choose which one I wanted to be with....but I didn't want to choose I was just a kid. Then I'm not a kid anymore, I'm somewhere I can smell that smell you smell by railroad tracks and I'm just walking the tracks looking down wishing I could just back to where it all went wrong. Its Autumn and you can see into other people's houses as dusk brings on the night, families are together people seem happy..yet I feel as far removed from people as stars must seem to families. Life goes on, people die alone watching tv. Days are shelter to feather a nest as people make sure they have retirement funds and agreeable smiles....they told me once I wasn't agreeable, yet I kept my mouth shut, still doing the math on that one! The wind is blowing, I'm cold but the smell of leaves is bittersweet, sweet but old enough to know the truth. The truth is cold....some boys never get to hold a girl's hand or have a father, some become crazy but make it out alive in prison and some only smile where the others aren't so they don't have to feel at all when in the presence of the insane.....happy faces.
Torn like an old dollar bill Girl let them say what they will That no one should hurt you And that's all I seem to do That no one should desert you And that's all I seem to do I got to tell you, goodbye mama We've taken this too far Been trying to tell you what's going on Trying to make it easy on you Trying to make it better Make it easier on you It's all I came to do It's all I came to do Now I'm down in the light And I must be dreaming it 'Cause I see clearly, I see angels here Bringing something to me, Mother Mercy I told a lie, I didn't mean it Goodbye mama, I've taken this too far Been gone a while Been gone a long way, oh yeah I don't want to hurt you It's all I seem to do Don't want to desert you It's all I seem to do I got to tell you, goodbye mama I've taken this too far Been down a while Been down a long way Trying to make it easy on you Trying to make it better Make it easier on you It's all I came to do It's all I came to do It's all I came to do That's all, been down a long Been down a long, long way Torn like an old dollar bill Screaming Trees Dollar Bill :)
Saw these guys at the old community center in Ellensburg back in '89 for their "Buzz Factory" release party... back when Mark Pickerel was on drums and they were on SST. I was 13, and it forever changed my perception of rock music. I still love anything from Mark Lanegan. And every now & again I pull up a song by these guys & remember when...
Been listening to the trees for almost thirty years now. SOOOOOO underrated!!! R.I.P Mr. Lanedan. Thank you for the music that inspired many. You will be missed.❤🎵🎸
Was part of the crew at Big Day Out saw this band lead singer sat on a chair with a broken leg and a bottle jeager what a show!!!! Loved them ever since
If you like the lead singer, whose name is Mark Lanegan, check out the band Mad Season. They are a 90's super group whose lead singer is Layne Staley from AIC in most songs, but Mark Lanegan sings on a couple of their songs, such as one called Long Gone Day. Check 'em out!
TheBigsis35: Also, check out what he's done with his solo career over the years that've passed since Trees broke-up decades ago -- "Hawk" (a collaboration album with Belle & Sebastian's Isobel Campbell is among my favorite things he's done over that interval)
R.I.P Mark Lanegan... Sad indeed that we should lose another great songwriter, vocalist/musician. One of my all-time favorite songs and one that will surely immortalize your amazing talent and being... From Australia, condolences to your family and friends.
so fuckin full of soul and feeling. i cant help but get into this music. simply amazing. just gotta sit back, close your eyes and take it in people. absorb the greatness. just cant find music like this these days.
this song reminds me of his solo song Strange Religion and especially the line "Some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around Did they know they were walking on holy ground?"
