I'm passionate about the art and love the way plastisol ink looks on shirts. I would appreciate your guidance on what vendors you recommend to buy equipment and supplies for plastisol inks. For example, where do you buy your mesh (low & high count), emulsion, plastisol paints, screen press, possibly heat press to cure the shirts since I'm limited on space. Keep publishing your videos! What lights do you use for your room and what type of emulsion did you use? Every light emits a different frequency wavelength, (or colour temperature), and each emulsion has a target- specific sensitivity cross-link activation range. So I think it's important for you to mention these in your videos. If someone has halogen lights in their room and use pre-sensitised emulsion, for example, they may encounter entirely different results... As I understand things, fluorescent lightbulbs are a fairly safe bet for task lighting, (alongside the time proven yellow bug lighting), but perhaps you could share your experiences? Great that you are putting out info and content, though. Keep up the good work!
I like this question/informative post! you are absolutely right, and to answer your question, I have a mix of lights like regular old light bulbs (since this is an old house and I never change the bulbs or at list not yet) LED bulbs and fluorescent bulbs, the emulsion I'm using is Ulano Orange (pre-sensitized) and Kiwo Poly Plus S (a two part emulsion) so now if you think about the time that takes a screen to "burn" using a 500watt halogen light at 12 to 16 inches from the screen lets say about 6 to 10 minutes now the distance between the room fluorescent lights, lets say about 5 to 6 maybe 7 feet, it would take literally hours to over expose or "burn" the screen, trust me I completely agree with you is just that the light source has to be so great to ruin the screen, NOW the SUN for example or UV rays will ruin a screen in seconds, I know this because I've done it LOL however you have sparked the light bulb in my head lol I will try this as a test and make a video on it I mean this is great stuff and we need to know the facts. thank you my friend I truly appreciate your comment!

There are still so many myths in the industry that present MASSIVE barriers to entry for newcomers and hold back current printers too. When I was new, I spent thousands and thousands on hard and software that I now know was totally unnecessary. It killed my startup fund and ultimately restricted growth on an exponential scale. My thoughts for a test would be to compare a range of spot butt registration (circle in a circle in a circle), and some large halftones squares in fixed 10% increments next to the circles. If room light makes a difference, Your biggest dot gain or bad washout or bad registration should be on your most sensitive screen mesh counts. What do you think? Anything I have missed out? If we can eliminate the need for a very dark, dark room, I think that will help a lot of people consider entering our awesome profession! I always had a yellow light, because I lived on an island and supplies had to be flown in at massive $$$. But maybe I could have seen what I was doing all this time!
One thing I believed from my understanding of emulsion chemistry, (and I could have been wrong), was that cross linking of emulsion in light, (making the emulsion hard and able to remain on your screen), was severely delayed by the absorption of water. This is why dry screens are so important before exposure. So I thought that spraying the exposed screen with water makes the whole emulsion layer less sensitive to light. Which of course makes sense when we are washing away and breaking the weak bonds when we wash out a screen. So my understanding was that if you spray the screen on both sides immediately after exposure, you could then wash out the screen in a "brighter" room because the unexposed emulsion was now having the chemical bonds broken and so they could not harden in the light. As part of my washout routine, the first thing I did was spray both sides of the screen as fast as possible. On the flip side, it theoretically also meant to me that you could coat a screen in light, because the emulsion was still wet and therefor could not cross link and harden. But with the cost of emulsion on my island, I never had the finances or balls to waste emulsion and try! I think we may well have a collaboration here though! I am just about to start posting with a whole new business, so maybe we can develop a test together!
Dope... Mistakes and all you still put out great videos. I have another question... When you apply the emulsion do you use the thin edge or the rounded edge?
I always use the thin edge it just makes it easier to reclaim the screens and your prints are much smoother "in my opinion" it just a better print! thank you for watching!!!!
I agree! I always use the thin edge as well. Also, I found out that the light don’t affect your screens after accidental leaving the lights on with my screens out. I’m assuming it depends on how bright the lights are. Great videos bro!
Hey thanks for video, was number 2 screen put on wrong registration line, you used line 2 for all the rest and you used line 1 for second color . After the screen fell when you corrected the upside down. Just wondering
