If you're a performing artist I'd probably go with the Beat Buddy but dang is it pricey! For the weekend warrior, and all-around noodler I'd hands down go with the SDRUM - super fun! You'll start listening to drum beats in songs.

Bought the Sdrum on a monday and by the weekend I had all 36 slots filled up with classic tunes and used it at my Saturday afternoon gig. Got to have the external pedal though. Synchs perfect with my BOSS rc 5

I absolutely love the sdrum, it’s a creative tool. Its versatility is incredible. If you have even a basic understanding of drum patterns you can get it doing something cohesive pretty quickly. Add the extension foot switch and possibilities increase exponentially and turn it into a full on performance pedal

I kind of agree with you but I wish it had a bass cut or something, once the volumes get higher that kick needs to be trimmed.

@@oldguyjammin9732 so I don’t run it in my guitar rig at all. I don’t use the strummable drum thing (gimmicky if you ask me) because I don’t want it in my signal chain. The pads are perfectly usable and give you the option of putting kicks behind the snare if you want a four on the floor thing. So I run it directly in stereo into my zoom livetrak mixer and eq it, you can add compression and low cut to the signal. It actually sounds incredibly lifelike

looks like I made the right choice. great informative video and the intro jam was very cool 👍

Ya, it does take some practice but these days I can dial in just what I want - very nice. I do wish there was switchable bass cut for the kick though, at higher volumes it can get a bit boomy. The beat buddy mini 2 is only about $100 and with Xmas coming up... who knows :) the intro was pretty cool, I had just watched a Phil Collins video from a recent show and that was the song they were playing - thanks!

@@oldguyjammin9732 I have heard about the Sdrum kick being too much. I'll just be using it for making quick demos. I guess I can EQ out some of the kick 👍 I'm hoping Sdrum can save me from the boredom DAW piano roll editing 😉

@@oldguyjammin9732 sorry to come back here and complain, but I just can't handle the reverb...if i could turn it off this thing would be almost perfect. I'm gonna sell it 😢

@@oldguyjammin9732 the SDRUM drum samples mostly have reverb recorded on them. I'm not a fan of reverb in general so it's just a personal preference

Exactly my sentiments. Never bonded with BeatBuddy. SDRUM all the way for me, especially now I got it controlling Aeros Looper! I found better to use keypad.....

Extension pedal for sdrum adds a lot and I always use the pads. I also run the sdrum through a Kat electronic drum amp, sounds much nicer than running through amp.
@oldguyjammin9732
@oldguyjammin9732 2 года назад
Well right on, that’s good to know... an electronic drum amp!?!? Would never have guessed there was such a thing, lol. You know of any way to cut the kick bass a bit? It’s gets a bit boomy as the volume goes up. I’ll confess that I found a Beat Buddy 2 mini for like $85 so grabbed it up and I’m having a ton of fun with it. I still think the SDRUM is the way to go, but sometimes it’s nice just jamming to pre done beats.

In all fairness, I did end up getting a beat buddy mini 2 used from Reverb. Overall I’d still go with the SDRUM but the ease of pre-made beats is really nice too, not to mention how it moves you creatively.

🎼 Thanks, I have both. Where do you have them in your pedal board chain ⛓. At the end I suppose?
@oldguyjammin9732
@oldguyjammin9732 2 года назад
Thanks, I ended up getting both too, lol. Sometimes it's nice having a bunch of premodern beats to rifle through. I use these in my effects loop. I don't buy an amp without a loop, period. Regardless I'd run them at the end of my chain if I didn't have a loop.

@@oldguyjammin9732 Thanks for getting back fast. I have a Digitech-Jamman & a Lekato Looper I bought because it's so small and easy to use. Are you saying your looper isn't in your effects chain? I'm a bassist and was in several Christian Rock bands over the yrs.- worship team too. I've been wanting to build a pedal board for a long time and finally since our band breakup and things slowing down, decided to do so. Your BeatBuddy looks like it's in your chain...anyway thank you.
@oldguyjammin9732
@oldguyjammin9732 2 года назад
@@Whitevaliantwarrior - no, the top row (ditto looper, sdrum, delay and reverb) all run through my amp’s effects loop. The bottom row of pedals runs right into the front of the amp. Bummer that your band broke up but sometimes it’s necessary and when God shuts a window he opens a door and all ;-) I sometimes miss playing with others but then I do and I’m glad I don’t, lol. I’m gonna jam with the father-in-law over the winter break. He’s a very talented keyboardist but has a tendency to just take off ha ha. As a guitar player I find piano players the hardest to play with, maybe cause they don’t really need me :) Good luck

Yes, I just wished it had a bass cut switch or something, cause as the volume gets “louder” that bass kick starts to fart a bit, lol. For lower level practice though...? Perfect.

Do these pedals run like a regular pedal through the amp or do you run it through a seperate PA? I was thinking PA ?
