very interesting. visited the old torpedo complex that you were filming in the distance in 2017. Not fishing, but looked rich Pollack water. Visited as an 18 y.o back in 1975 and stayed opposite in Arrochar for a week. Hired a boat and caught a lot of big Cod to 33lbs on jigs/pirks in the deep loch valley. One morning, it was thick fog and the fog horn was blowing.. suddenly through the mist appeared a Dory with a red flag. We didn't know what to make of it, so carried on, then... this noise... and a 6m? maybe longer... torpedo passed within 5m of our little boat. Got the hell out of there so quick. I would have been a goner as swimming was close to zero. Later, recalled that we'd been on a camp site opposite in '68? and a torpedo had gone off course and had come up the beach. There's a lot of copper wire down there. We were snagging it all of the time in '75. Cheers, interesting!!

Thank you the response. I visited in about 1982 with my family and had a few so was hopeful but apparently the cod were hammered by the local fleet after the Icelandic cod wars and very few are now caught.

My school chum of 50-odd years ago and I used to fish at Loch Long. We'd get the Oban bus from Clydebank. I can't tell you the joy these fishing trips meant to us. My chum was William Kennedy, last heard of in Drumchapel, Glasgow. I would give anything to be able to contact him. I have a basketful of apologies for what happened on 31 October, 1971. Wullie was my best friend. If anyone knows of his whereabouts, I would be mighty pleased to be put in contact with him. All the best

I thought you'd hooked the seal!!

So did I but one of the guys on there was adamant it was a conger. I did get it to move which was what made him think it was the conger - particularly under that pier but the seals do take the fish from you on there

Looks bloody freezin! Used to fish near Arrochar, brilliant Cod fishing years ago, trawlers have ruined it unfortunately. Some big Congers there too, as you found out!

It’s solid with mackerel in the summer I’m told. It was freezing and very wet. Had my big coat but should have done with something warmer like my floatation suits. I wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it could have been the seal but a local lad was adamant it was an eel. I’ll never know for sure but it was exciting.

@@phildean8797 all those sea lochs are full of Conger under the piers, we hooked and lost one in Holy Loch off Kilmun Pier that was as round as a telegraph pole! Monster fish, actually mangled my metal drop net before biting through a 6/0 hook😲 West side of the loch down from Arrochar about a mile down the road is about 150 feet deep 50 yards out off the steep rocks, was great there for big Cod but don’t know if it still is.

Hi Phil good drive up there to fish I use to hate catching normal eel's so a conger would be a jump too far for me.tight lines drive back safe.

Even when I moved it out a bit I was trying to work out how I would get it in. I never even got as far as worrying how I’d unhook it. Probably for the best that it beat me.
