For the last year I've been trying to find a tent that can fit a big guy and not break the bank. Came across your channel when I saw the videos of you Dan Becker and a few other guys talk about your gear. Well because of you I pulled the trigger and bought this tent. Oh and of course I read lots of reviews to make sure it was going to fit my needs. thanks for a great review of the tent.

I think you can find mineral spirits at like a hobby store maybe hobby lobby, which I believe there's one in Lakewood, or Michaels or Jo-Ann's crafting stores anything that has maybe some art supplies.

Thank you for that lead. Honestly, I'm not understanding what happened to all the mineral spirits in LACO. I've gone to multiple Home Depot's in my area, Truevalue Hardware and nothing. I'll give Hobby Lobby and Michael's a go.

Thanks for posting this video. I just picked up a Tarptent Notch a few days ago. I will seam seal it in the spring. I live in Newfoundland , Canada and my backyard is covered in a few feet of snow currently.......Take care, Bluefin.

Oh man...the Notch is a great tent. The method that I'm using is actually the Tarptent method. It has been by far the easiest method for seam sealing. Happy adventuring!

Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us about this tent. My son just gave it to me for my BD- so excited! Do I have to seal the seams when it is new?
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 3 года назад
You can have SMD do the sealing for a fee. But after trying it once myself, I'm feeling pretty confident that I can handle any seam sealing job out there. I would however change to a silicone tube. The seam sealer in this video (its great) but it seems like its pre-thinned. It was not what I'm typically used to.

How would you compare this tent to the Lunar solo in terms of condensation control and bathtub space(length), and which do you like taking out more?
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 3 года назад
Hello. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I noticed this is the second comment you left. Really the difference between the two really comes down to what you value most. With the Lunar Solo you get more overall floor space but less head and shoulder "sitting up" space. With the Trekker you get less floor space (overall, but still enough to have your gear in with you) but you get a greater feeling of openness when sitting up in the Trekker. If you anticipate needing to make meals in the vestibule often then I would say the Lunar Solo is better suited for your needs as it has a bigger and better ventilated vestibule than the Trekker. For me the Trekker ticks more boxes than the Lunar Solo, and with that said I still love the Lunar Solo as well. I guess the answer is just buy both. LOL! (I know that's not helpful) But yeah, the cross bar is not big enough to make a difference in packability and to be honest, I've been keeping the Trekker in one of those SMD pack pods. The cross bar fits just fine in there and those are pretty small overall and are designed to fit into packs in a clean and flat way. I think you'll hit a home run no matter which one you decide to go with. As far as condensation, all tents will have some level of condensation. I believe you will have a greater chance of touching a wall that has condensation on it if you were to use the Lunar Solo. I do also encourage you to sleep with the door open, weather permitting. I usually will try to sleep with at least one of the doors open no matter if its the Lunar Solo or the Trekker. (Weather permitting). It will allow you get maximum ventilation, but just know that your sleep system must be on point as you will certainly notice a difference in temperature. Hope all that helps.

@@TubaSolotheHiker Wow thanks for the in depth comparisons, was great hearing from someone who actually used both tents, this will definitely help with my decision, leaning more toward the Trekker now. Appreciate the great content!

@TubaSolotheHiker

LOL! I'm certainly not but I'm kinda wishing I was right now. Actually Tuba Solo the Hiker was derived from a fart joke. I didn't think my channel would go any where and I didn't want to be too serious about everything so I named it "Tuba Solo the Hiker." Yeah...you live you learn. LOL!
