I watched this interview just before I met with the missionaries. Elder Maxwell's discussion in the interview peaked my interest. I later called the church and met with the elders. I was baptized a few weeks later and have been active for the last 23 years.
I have known Elder Maxwell was a prophet, seer and revelator for most of my adult life and have heard him speak dozens of times. I have read several of his books. However, as a listen closely to this interview over 25 years later, the Holy Spirit again reaffirmed to me the truthfulness of his words and the divinity of his calling as one of the Lord’s Anointed.
I didn’t appreciate what a profoundly deep understanding Elder Maxwell had when he was alive. I miss him. I wish our world had many more like him. God knows we need it today more than ever.
An incredibly respectful interviewer. He asks the questions and then listens fully to the answers. He isn't weak or feels that he has to agree but he realises the purpose of this interview is not to have a debate argument but rather to show case and investigate Neil Maxwell's views and beliefs. Both these men are an example to me of having strong faith and clear vision of what they believe without necessarily agreeing with the other but avoiding antagonistic argument. So many in 2023 could benefit from these examples. I found this completely uplifting and educational. Thank you for sharing it I had never listened to this before.
There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there's perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.
Elder Maxwell is right. We do not know all things. We can only eternally, continuously search for truth. I, too have been visited by members of the Godhead. I have been spoken to by God the Father, who told me not to join the roman catholic church because of the corruption that caused the Great Apostasy. There have been false prophets from the similar community called Jehovah's Witnesses and people think that we are the same as them but that's wrong. There have been times when the Latter-day Saints have been misled to do atrocious things, which wasn't even approved by the General Authorities. Ofc, there is the typical historical atrocities committed by the very Roman Catholic Church which today still exists and some people refuse to listen to what others have to say about the RCC being corrupted still, while some have been enlightened to leave in order to search for truth. Maxwell has been proven correct because of these real events that have occurred throughout the years. Not only that, Jesus spoke in Revelation about how "The Time is coming where the Father will not speak of these things figuratively, but in literal terms." He meant continuing revelations and ofc, He definitely mentioned about other sheep who are not of the Fold in Israel, and in fact are around the world, which includes the ancient Americas besides the Gentiles and Greeks etc. Lehi the Prophet did indeed have to flee Jerusalem with his family to the Promised Land in order for them to settle there with a new bountiful life, like when Moses led the Israelites, freed from slavery, out of Egypt. This is how I know the Godhead instead of the false Nicene trinity doctrine is true. This is how I know the Book of Mormon is true as well.
