You provided great information and video. I just finished seasoning my new Blackstone griddle and didn’t see anything about cooling between seasonings. It probably would have been easier on my hand that I had to wrap with a damp towel l! 😂
To be honest, I usually don't cool between coats, but it does say to do that on the Blackstone Website, so I wanted to show how they say to do it. (and it does help from burning my hands too...lol)
I didn't see anything on the Blackstone site or seasoning video that said it should cool between oilings. Just to apply thin layers and let it stop smoking before adding more.
Very informative, I decided to buy the 36” Blackstone model but wanted to understand the seasoning process before I even receive it. I prefer the flat top griddle to the messy grate type gas grill.
Finally got myself a blackstone, really enjoyed your video there showing you how to season her up appreciate you explaining everything well, will be checking out your videos now.
Yes, make sure it is seasoned before cooking on it, after that, just cook, clean and lightly oil and it is ready to cook again. Each time you cook, it adds more seasoning to the griddle, so no need to reseason. Congrats on buying this, I'm sure you love it.
Never had a griddle before and just got the 22” Adventure for Father’s Day. Wanted to make sure I seasoned it right. Video well done and easy to follow!
Well, I'm upgrading from a 36" to 22". I absolutely Love my 36". Just ordered my 22" for my new travel trailer. None of my cmping frie nds are using griddle. I want to be the star of the show! :)
You will have all your friends buying them before much longer once they see everything you can do with a griddle. I love my 36 inch, but this 22 is perfect to take places!! Thanks so much for stopping by.

That’s called “smoke point” and it takes about 30 minutes for your Blackstone to get there. So relax, grab a seat, and watch the smoke fly by. When all the smoke is gone, you can turn off the griddle. #5 Time for some extra rounds! Like a boxing ring, it’s hard to knock out your opponent in the first round. Same goes for the Blackstone and the tension between the oil and steel. One round ain’t gonna cut it. To make the best non-sticking and tasty surface your meals deserve, you’re gonna have to repeat the seasoning. So be patient and make it count. Grab your oil again, dab it on the griddle, and watch the heated smoke-fest again. You should stop when the griddle plate is dark brown, and that takes around 2 to 3 times.
I got all my griddles in winter for price reasons for the inflation lately. I found that the hood is your friend if doing this in the winter to get the whole thing hot enough to burn off. Just be sure you open the lid from time to time because it does need oxygen for the polymerization process to complete. You'll notice when you first open the hood it's not smoking as much but in a second it all starts to smoke. But it'll allow the whole griddle including sides to get hot enough if it's really cold
Just bought this unit. Questions: 1. how long does it take to cool down so I can put it back in the truck? Don’t want someone to snag it while tailgating. 2. Can I use this in the back of my tailgate or do o need to put it on a metal table? 3. How often do I have to season it?
To cool down, probably 30 mins maybe and yes this can sit right on the tailgate of your truck without any problems. I have used it on picnic tables before. As far as seasoning it, you will want to clean it after each use, then just apply a light coat of oil before covering it up. Treat it just like cast iron. Hope this helps!
I cracked up when you asked the question @13:57 what should we cook on it first. I said to myself "Bacon" and my dog popped his head up and looked at me with big eyes. He may not know come here, but if you say "Bacon" he becomes you best friend. When ever I cook on my griddle he is always hoping that there is an accidental dropping of food.
Check and see if the wire for the ignitor is to close or to far away and not producing a spark. If all that looks ok, unhook the hose from the propane tank for 10 to 15 seconds. that resets the regulator, and then reattach the hose and see if it works then.
Nope, no need. I have never seen or heard of anyone seasoning the bottom of a griddle. My skillets and stuff yes, but no need on the bottom of the griddle. if it does rust some, it doesn't hurt it at all and it is not even recommended by Blackstone to season the underside. I have been using my oldest griddle for over 5 years now and still no issues.
Crazy Pop! Just got the 28" and seasoned it up! Been watching your cooking videos and looking forward to the deliciousness this thing can produce! Stay well!
Running a brand new griddle on high, is a great way to permanently warp the griddle. Around 450 degrees is ideal. Running on high can get to 600 or even 700 degrees, and that’s way too hot.
Look i just seasoned my today. Like to said alot of videos out there. I think i did it wrong i didn't wash it like you did because i was told no water. Can i clean my new grill like you did by washing it and starting over.
Yeah, we never use any fatty foods for the first few cooks. This is actually about the third one we have seasoned, just never made a video of it. Thanks for watching!!!!
So nice of you to buy a griddle for traveling so you can come up here And cook LOL hope you’re doing good my man keep the videos coming have a great weekI’ll be waiting for my Philly cheesesteak on the new grill
That's my Blackstone. Love it. Will be upgrading to a 36" Ace Hardware Exclusive Edition very soon. Fried corn would be a great first cook, but I'm sure you have already did your 1st cook by now. You keep cooking and I'll keep watchin.

Well heck! I’m in Batesburg. I used to be the Locomotive engineer on a Southern Railroad train that worked went to work at the Greenwood Southern Depot back in the 80’s. I watch all your videos on the Blackstone Griddle. I bought my 22” Adventure in January and ain’t seasoned it yet! Got your video on seasoning the 22” gonna use it! Have a good one neighbor 🙏🙏🇺🇸
Well, some people like using certain oils over others and want to see the difference. So creators (including Blackstone) put out videos using different oils and such.
I have been wanting to do a seasoning video for a long time and just never done it. I am so glad to hear you are enjoying our videos!!! Thanks for watching!!!
You all probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any help you can give me
@Yehuda James I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Too much soap! No need to clean it for half an hour. It also comes out much better when seasoned in an oven or outdoor gas grill if you don't want any smoke in the house. This way it gets consistant heat all around without those hot spots under the griddle flame.
So I just bought a Blackstone today. I'm just a tad confused, do we have to use these steps each and every time we use it or is it if we use it once, then use it again a month later.. for example. I just didn't know if we had to season it the way you did each time I use the Blackstone.
