Joe Mad illustrated a Vox Machina Poster (the first Critical Role released, I believe.) Liam did indeed plug the Kickstarter for the Battlechasers: Night War video game on the show- not because they sponsored Critical Role, but because he was a fan.

Liam had also worked in the Darksiders franchise which Joe Mad was a creative director of; so I think Liam and Joe know each other a little.

He said he'd left a few times, but it was kinda implied it was just for supplies, so he probably just went to Shady Creek Run a couple times. Regardless, it's just a cool cameo, nothing to look into really.

Funny enough, the connection between the Battle Chasers cameo and Vox Machina is because part of the cast voiced on the Ruined King game with the developers Airship Syndicate, who were developers on Battle Chasers. in the Ruined King game, Matt voiced The Saltwater Scourge, Gangplank. Laura voiced the infamous Miss Fortune. And Liam voiced the wandering Yasuo.

I ve been watching campaign one of critical role this last year and I do remember Liam plugging support for a kickstarter of Battle Chasers. Maybe he and one of the other cast members went on to voice those characters and that’s why they are here as an Easter egg

It can't be Cad, he cannonicly never left the grove except for trips to town for supplies. Could be a relative though, he said his traveled all over 😁

I don't think it's meant to be a canonical Easter egg. Kind of like the X-Wing and TIE fighters showing up in Attack of the Clones. Just my guess, though.

@avasam06 yeah, technically he is old enough to have been able to be there but the first time he left his home was with MN 24ish years later. Could be a relative like another uncle or a cousin though. Or it could be proof of my theory that TLOVM is an Exandrian tv series that was made several hundred years later and that is why there are so many details slightly off and things snuck in that shouldn't have existed quite yet. 😅

During Campagin 1, Liam O'Brien plugged Battle Chasers: Nightwar just because he loves Joe Mad's work. That is the explanation, it's a reference. Joe Mad also illustrated a limited edition poster for Campaign 1. I'm sure they collaborated with him again to get Garrison and Red Monika into these cameos.

Hmm...Joe Mad is one of the founding members of the Airship Syndicate a Game Development company based in Texas...The fact that Garrison and Red Monika appeared...I wonder if that means we're getting a Critical Role video game from the studio at some point...

I personally liked the voice actors they recruited for the second season. Lance Reddick, formerly Charon, from John Wick, and Henry Winkler as Pike's grandfather. Those were both pleasant surprises.

I saw 2 background characters that reminded me of Zuko and Sokka in one of the episodes, I don't remember which. It was definitely more of a resemblance over actual copies - correct clothing colour, skin colour and hair colour similar faces sort of thing.

There's some perks to having your entire main cast be made up of people heavily ingrained in the VA community for so long. They know guys who know guys, and are probably more likely to get a yes when asking if they can add some Easter eggs.

That can't be Caduceus. A HUGE part of his character arc is that he's never left the Blooming Grove until the M9 show up. I'm trying to remember the paths his family took... I believe it was his father who went to Vasselheim wasn't it???

It was just a Cad Easter egg, the show isn't canon to the stream, the show isn't even following the same timeline from C1, it's a fun little thing put in by the animators(and likely done before there was even any confirmation of a m9 series) and was confirmed to be Cad by the cast during the watch party

I don't think it's Caduceus, he shaves the side of his head the whole time until level 13 art. It's not one of his sisters because the oldest sister left 5 years before Mighty Nein. Most likely, IMHO it's his Aunt Corrin because she went out searching for more Wildmother temples.

In universe, it could be a coincidence. A grand and cosmic coincidence. But out of universe? Very easy to write that off as to Battle Chasers fans just making their proxy characters with the DM presumably unaware.

I know it's probably not the actual reason they're there, but seeing someone from a separate franchise randomly show up without explanation could be considered a meta comment on how people will often blatantly rip off existing fictional characters when creating a character in D&D.
