my family always adds a "pinch" (tiny, tiny amount) of nutmeg to all beef recipes. You don't taste it, but it adds one of those layers of flavors you can't identify.

Our secret ingredient is a bit of horseradish. Additionally, mix all of the add-ins together in a separate bowl and then pour that over the meat and mix in. It makes for a more thorough incorporation. Now I have heard it said somewhere that having that 1 extra bowl to wash is a no go. Takes me like 1 minute

I put my mix ins first and stir so I can taste before I add my meat and mix again with gloved hands of course.

I use mayo....instead lf egg ..trust me Mayo and onion soup mix.. husband prefers with gravy on top instead of the tomato base.
