They don’t care about citizens getting scammed. In the video they mentioned EBT cards are the “most targeted” and those are used at grocery stores which is why we barely saw any gas station visits in this video. They only care about EBT cards getting scammed because it’s government money.
#2 reason is transaction fees. Think about it: you go to an atm and unless its your own bank, they charge a transaction fee. You go ahead and do it because you need the cash at the moment and there isn't any other option. Now imagine that everything goes cashless. Who's to stop the managing financial institutions from charging transaction fees? I mean, they are literally already doing it, so the foot is a bit *more* than just already in the door. You will of course be hit with TWO transaction fees for every transaction, just like many banks do with ATMs already. Really. Give it a second to stop and think about. Two transaction fees on every single purchase, on top of the sales tax, which is already on top of the income tax... and voters will have absolutely NO say on transaction fee amounts (not that we *_really_* have any say on the tax amounts either)... Sounds wonderful, right?!! Sign me up!!! LOL
Phones are fine, credit cards (with tape readers and even with chip readers) are not. The highest levels of bank encryption and security exist on ines phone - if it is set up properly. Ones phone can be the highest security device that one will ever own.
@@bgmullins A few banks allow a certain number of ATM fees a month from machines that aren’t theirs to be refunded. That’s why it you’re a veteran or are eligible through a family member then open up a checking account with USAA. They allow up to 10 refunded ATM fees a month.
they done that at a gas station where my daughter works an the guys that installed it parked somewhere down the road so they wouldn't be seen on cameras so some of em are halfway start
Majority are illegal immigrants who are paid by organized gangs and such. Nothing will happen to these people who are caught except maybe deportation but they will come back across the open border in a day or so.
Gas stations usually don't keep footage long enough. Most businesses keep it a maximum of 30 days before it's automatically deleted to save space. All the more so for the cheap or run down gas stations. Even if they did have footage of it it's highly unlikely you'll either see their face or catch a plate.
1:58 tap to pay an chips can be skimmed too. just as easily as skimmed too. you dont even have to use a check out station to have your card data stolen. anybody can just walk up next to you with a hand held device an scan ur pockets or purse and get your card info. like really the idea the news person is talking about tap to pay or chips are safer. is a flat out lie. if you dont have your card in a wallet with a rfid blocking shield then ites easy as heck to scan ur card. also top to pay skimmers and chip skimmers can be installed on the POS terminals too.
I repaired restaurant equipment in the past and from time to time restaurant owners would share with me that they buy EBT benefits for pennys on the dollar. I reported it and nothing would ever happen. Life is weird.
You report because a store was selling food stamps for money? You don't know why some of these parents might need the money for? Y'all really weird with y'all jobs. Mind ya business and keep it pushing. You a real weirdo fr
My brother was skimmed at a air machine at a gas station. He stopped to put air in his tire and the skimmer got his info. Thankfully his bank reimbursed what was taken.
@marlynamcburney5253 My neighbor went to Mcdonalds drive thru to get some food for her kids. Two days later she gets a notice saying someone spent $3.5k on her card on a cruise ship off the coast of The Greek Islands. Eventually her Bank reimbursed her.
get it right thats not money you are working for. its currency. real mony holds its value over long periods of time and cant be inflated. the real thives are the ones who have our country over 30 trillion in debt. them dollars are just worthless pecies of paper in realality and have no real value. they used to be back by gold. but not any more since the 70s when nixion abolished the gold standard. that was the last nail in the coffin. now all we have to back its value global demand for it and military force which we used to keep the dollar as the reserver currence forcing the rest of the world to use dollars to trade with on the global markets. if your country wants oil you must first have dollars to buy it with. or any other commodity on the global market. you see why our country can never not be at war. we will allways have to be at war against any nation that wont accept our dollars. or is trying to make their currecny the reserver currency. and as history shows the nation with the strongest and best military gets to have the reserver currency. plenty of people have died for this and plenty more in the future will too. and theres nothing the average person can really do about it. unless we make a whole new system but that will eventually get corrupted too. like how do people not know a corrpted money system was one of the main reasons for the revolutionary war. history allways repetes itself. cuz humans really never learn from it. the ones who do come out on top.
Going to these big chain stores won’t prove fruitful. Go to stores like 711 and corner stores. Charge these store owners because is either they are in it or not checking to ensure their devices are secured.
I did get skimmed at Target several years ago. A lot of ppl did that year. But that was a ling time ago. I agree they are mostly in those little markets on no-name atms
Democrats would never allow it in the Democrat occupued zones. San Francisco even legalized shop lifting and CA made it illegal to disturb a criminal while he is commiting a crime. If they let the secret service check machibes, a criminal might get aressted. If the criminal is black or an illegal , they would have to defund the racist secrete service.
What EXACTLY does it have to do with the Secret Service? Local Police could have done this exact same thing LONG ago without Federal intervention. Hell, the store chains themselves could have done it without Police intervention AT ALL.
@@bigbossimmotal I’m not real sure either? But I know that the secret service has always been the agency that deals with counterfeit money, I’m not sure of the connection?
@@alphagt62 Exactly. As far as I know, they are responsible for presidential/diplomat security and the mint Police. That's it. Too many people are far too dependent on our Federal Government for everything, then whine about the size, scope, and expense of our Federal Government. It makes no sense to me.
your are correct. but the idiots on here saying cashless is safe lmao complete idiots. they dont know rfid skimmers or scanners exist and anybody can intercept signals from ur phone and clone them. tap to pay skimmers exist too.
@@XXPYR0XX Same with the damn clickies that people lock and start their cars with, garage door openers and any digital door unlocking gimmick they have nowadays. Not to mention those damn clickies run about $300 to replace. And you called it, I could stand behind you in line and scan the RFID from your wallet with a device quite simply, the only way it wouldn't work is if you have one of those anti RIFD wallets..
@@TabletMini Funny weve had cash since the beginning of time, last I looked robbers were OVERWHELMING in majority, running into stores and stealing shopping carts of merchandise. Not even a good try leftist.
Very true. Merchant services companies should provide them to all their retail clients. The retailers should require it as part of their daily opening and closing routines. It would only take seconds or minutes depending on how many terminals there are, but would save thousands of dollars.
@@Precursor-co7up The 3-4 "pit bosses" standing around the front of the store instead of in a check stand could just as easily use those cards and keep an eye on what is going on too.
The news is doing a wonderful job in helping the scammers by telling them their skimmers are being targeted. Try releasing the story AFTER the search is atleast completed for a day.
My question is what are they doing? Because they have no legal ability to do this. They are just the protective service for the president, nothing else. (AKA Gloified bodyguards)😊
@SilvaDreams secret service agents are federal law enforcement officers. They're 1811 criminal investigators just like FBI, DEA etc. Their primary focus is financial crimes such as counterfeit currency or in this case credit card fraud
That's what the Secret Service does. Before that it was the job of the local police. If they can't or won't do their job properly talk to them or your local government.
and will know for sure if the moment EBT stops being stolen, that the skimmer crackdown stops. whichever organization started targeting this to expose the theory, "thanks for proving the theory"
@@woodstream6137 I drive a diesel truck, $50 fills the tank about 1/3 full 😅 but that is a good idea. Edit: I have had issues with pre paid cards not working at some places.
@@woodstream6137 The transactions they put on it are like $30 because they dont want you to notice, or if you do notice they want it to be so cheap that you just don't report it because it's not worth not having your cards work for like 2-3 weeks for $30.
The need to do this in the Tampa area. Had my card skimmed at a Subway not far from my house. I no longer to that location but it was done by an employee not with a card skimmer over lay.
That is why I NEVER use a debit card. With a charge card there are numerous gates to taking money. The first, that I experience when I got skimmed at a local shell station is that my card was immediately canceled but the credit card company. They recognized that numerous charges were made in south Florida, while I was still in North Florida. They also call me to confirm any unusual larger charges before clearing them. But in the meantime, my money in the bank has been safe.
Only because they are losing money. Notice how they focused on EBT (food stamp) cards and mentioned how since they don't have tap to pay or chip's they are easy targets for thieves. So when they extract money from EBT cards they're stealing from the government.
You are more likely to find them in small businesses like independent gas/convenience food stores or locations where the owner doesn't have direct visual contact with the terminal. Not a Walmart, Target of major chain food stores.
Secret Service should not be doing this. This is a commerce related matter. Also, the Banks and Financial agencies that MAKE these devices should be re-designing these to make it harder to access these.
It is not just protecting the president. The Secret Service used to investigate counterfeiting. Found this quote, "but it is credit card fraud, wire and bank fraud, computer network breaches, ransomware, and other cyber-enabled financial crimes that have become the focus of much of the Secret Service investigative work." I think they were investigating counterfeiting as early as the 1800s.
I have learned recently that there is a new version that is harder to see, and as far as I can tell, the SS agents **WOULDN"T** have found them by their searches as shown.
At 2:36 he used a plastic insert to check the chip-reading slot. It was provided by the chain to fit their specific terminals. If a skimmer had been inserted, the plastic would not have inserted as far.
I congratulate the U.S. Secret Service for being on top of this problem throughout the United States. At least there's one Federal Law Enforcement Agency that's truly doing their job for the benefit of the American Taxpayers.
The problem is it's usually fairly difficult to track down the people who installed them. So many places still have low quality surveillance video to help identify people, combined with the people often installing skimmers far from where they live and would be easily identified. Example, about 5 years ago a pair installed skimmers at 4 gas stations in my town, they only got caught because the first skimmer was noticed by a customer within hours, police did a sweep and pulled all footage and got a general description of the people and vehicle. 3 days later the same vehicle showed up to retrieve the skimmer and the clerk recognized it and called 911 to report it, they were caught when they stopped at the next station they had installed a skimmer at. They were from out of state and might have never been caught if that first skimmer hadn't been reported by a customer so quickly.
The Secret Service falls under the Dept of Homeland Security. And since a lot of the stolen funds are going overseas, this is completely in their wheelhouse.
@@turtleneckferret Oh really? I had no idea. LOL I didn't know that SSA were everywhere and I was surprised that the SSA was even investigating i thought they made a special trip LOL but now I know thank you
This operation should be Nationwide... These skimmers are everywhere.... Gas stations... Groceries stores... Smoke shops.... Protect your funds people... Know how to spot A skimmers device... Also when you use ur Chip to tap... Watch out for people working in groups....One distracts you while you Go tap your card.... Another individual will be on the opposite side... with his phone trying to read ur chip.... Be aware of your surroundings.
They're not catching anyone, just finding and removing the skimmers. With CCTV cameras everywhere, they could easily catch the people if they wanted to.
Maybe they need to train cashiers to check for skimmers before they close their boxes everyday. It just takes a couple of seconds to so. As a customer I check for skimmers before I insert my card and I prefer to get down and pay the cashier inside for gas if the pump has a broken key seal.
Why would secret service be performing this duty? I thought secret service is only responsible for security and protection of executive branch and foreign dignitaries visiting. Well I'm adding this information, so in addition to security they investigate financial crimes and cyber crime. I learned something today.
Specifically gas pumps. The electronics go inside the pump, and most people wouldn't know what they were looking at anyway if they opened it. They work at a gas station they're not experts in electronics.
