Tom basically said in the nicest way possible; People got lazy and started relying on drugs more than training.
@fatboitino2
@fatboitino2 6 лет назад
James Cowan yeah, true. He's right. People don't enjoy the process anymore- like when youbfirst start training and all you want to do is find new ways to optimize your gainz and progress. A new vein and a new striation was life. Now, people are just trying to master cycles and go half way on everything else

bodybuilders today are drug addicts...only difference between them and the coke/smackheads is that they don't get their high automatically from injecting or popping pills but after doing a certain level of physical activity from an endorphin rush known as "the pump" ...their workouts are momentum-driven, lack form and are generally of low quality....the chemicals are at their vanguard....instead of nutrition and researching human anatomy and physiology...basically understanding what they're putting into their bodies ...Tom Platz on the other hand has a degree in both...so all the years he was crunching out those insane volumes...he absolutely knew what he was asking of his body physically...and always prepped himself for those intense sessions...

@James Cowan He said in the nicest way possible that Bodybuilders dont work hard anymore since 2002 or so. with the exception of Roelley Winklar and Victor Martinez of course and Seth Feroce.

Suddenly a huge fan of Tom Platz, excellent advice, well spoken and actually inspirational... to me this is what inspirational looks like, it’s not excessively animated for the sake of attention, it’s not studying social media trends and exploiting hot button topics to fish for likes, it’s not trying so hard it induces cringe, it’s just this, an authentic dude giving you legit advice, this guy is keeping it real and I respect that immensely, would love to see more of this mentality throughout our culture.

He's describing what's known as static training. It why gymnasts who don't even lift weights have huge shoulders and arms. I like to do them for biceps.

collin355 how do you do that for biceps? Do you mind to share your routine?
@collin355
@collin355 6 лет назад
John Brady at the end of my bicep routine I go to the preacher curl machine, and put on as much weight as I can hold for about 30 seconds at the midway point
@papaspaulding
@papaspaulding 6 лет назад
I love using negatives. I use them sparingly doing such on only the last set on one exercise per muscle group. mainly as i workout alone so without a spotter pretty hard to do safely on some exercises. I also use static training on my biceps. I tend to favour finishing on conecntration curls and choose a super low weight dumbell and hole each contraction at top and tense the muscle as hard as I can for at least 4 slow seconds each rep then really slowly lower the dumbell to starting position. after 10 reps my biceps are crying like lil bitches
@Ownyx
@Ownyx 6 лет назад
collin355 like powerlifters do on bench and overload. Get that muscle group comfortable with real heavy weight. Thats half the problem with compound lifts and body trying to acclimate to it.

I met the Golden Eagle back in the 80's backstage where he was guest posing at a show. To say anything bad about this man would amount to abomination. He was at the top of his game at the time, and the humility, spirit and decency he showed anyone and everyone was unbelievable. He truly was a kind man, and sincere one, at that. I shall never forget that encounter, as he took the time to provide encouragement and the keys to avoid self defeatism. Thank-you, Eagle.

Used to go to an old school style gym. When it opened, it was the first gym I had ever been to (to actually train) it was great, the sound of plates and dumbells clanging, machines moving. Sure there were some supplements, but nothing special. Just variations of protein shakes or bars. I was a mega small guy, 54kg and 5ft 5. Never before did I feel so at home somewhere. I'd be doing my pissy little 10kg dumbbells presses and a big guy was walking past, dropped his 30's, got down and started pushing me on my reps, encouraging me to do a couple more. I'd be trying out squats and a guy who worked there would walk past and watch, then walk over and nudge my feet to a correct position for me or if I was doing something easy, he'd cone over, add weights and say 'you can clearly do that'. One guy would ask me my weight, then work out in his head and tell me how many cals/carbs and protein I should be on and so many more. It was an amazing place, small, tucked away, everyone knew everyone and everyone were friends. Sadly it began to decline a couple years ago under new ownership (the latest owner last year) tried doing all these weird classes for women and it made for a completely different atmosphere. Last month it finally bit the dust and closed down. Everyone split up and have gone to different gyms or have other life things that have to take priority. But my time there was great and I wouldn't change it one bit.

He is so inspiring. The thought behind the training of these guys. Old school was about positivity, about having fan and pushing one another beyond their limits. Today's bodybuilding is about social media drama, gurus and bloggers, uploads over uploads, talking, talking, taking and even more talking ( nonsense for the most part). So guys keep it positive, encourage people around you to become better every day, and become better with them, train hard, love, have fan. As Tom said, let's all keep it "old school"!!

Louis Caputo I think total failure training is good, but maybe not frequently for natties without the drugs. Platz has said he’d only do legs every 2 weeks and squats once or twice a month, he’d go to total failure, and that’d require lots of rest to recuperate.

The legend, what an inspirational guy. Tom platz, although his physique is truly one of a kind and one of the all time best, he has this aura around him and mentality that attracts many people. He's way more than just the physique, and that's how it should be, people always talking about great ambassadors for bodybuilding, tom platz would be on the top of my list. I would go even further, he's a great ambassador for life, the legend, the eagle, the gentleman Tom Platz.

I met Tom back in I think it was '83 as he was guest posing here in MN before another try at the Olympia. I was a nobody, just a low, state level bodybuilder, yet he took several minutes out of his time to individually talk to me and take a couple photos, just me and him. Always idolized Tom for his legs, but I'll never forget how genuine of a person he was in trying to help people with fitness. As I approach 60 now and find it hard to still be as into working out as I did years ago, it amazes me that people like Tom still have the fire in them.....shows the reason they were pros in their prime.....true heart, grit, and determination!
