Might want to make sure you're getting plenty of fresh air down there. Might help to have a CO/CO2 sensor, with a passive failure mode. Those gasses tend to be heavier and gather at the bottom of holes plenty of people become asphyxiated in confined spaces

Consider using a sacrificial zinc/anode sock. This will attract corrosion and help prevent damage to the other metal parts of the bunker. It’s similar to the zinc bars in water heater that help protect water heaters from rusting.

Hi @colinfurze, I work at a precast concrete wall manufacturer. We use plastic spacers, with small, small feet. To make sure, that the mesh, is at the right distance, during the pouring. They are called panel chairs in English. Looking forward to the next update.

I was a underground coal miner for several years. Watching this video didn't make me claustrophobia but it does make me wonder if you have anyone with you when your in such tight places? I know from experience it only takes one rock rolling out of the wall to put you in a position where you can't get yourself out.

As always, great video. Having lived in Germany where everyone has a basement and I've seen lots being built, you're doing this part of the underground complex a bit back to front. I watched a builder build a complete basement for a pair of semi detached houses next door to where I lived in 2 weeks, including the roof / ground floor concrete. After digging the hole, they cover the bottom of it with a membrane and a load of reinforcing steel, with verticals wherever the walls will go, they then pour the floor in one go, covering the reinforcement. Once the slab is hard enough, they start erecting reinforcement for all the walls, including ducting for all services,, which they then cover in shuttering. They also put shuttering for the roof and then cover that with reinforcement and ducting. Finally they pour all the walls and ground floor in one go. In your case you'd be fitting the steel instead of shuttering, but the main thing is to fit the rebar before the steel cladding!

I realize how much time, effort, and money it requires for a project like this. But man I need longer videos of this project. Totally love it, and I can't wait to see it when it's completed. I could watch this stuff all day everyday 😱😁😎😎👍

@2MuchColinFurze you should get yourself a gas monitor for working down in that bunker, specially while there is a diesel truck sitting outside engine running for a good while. It’ll also be good to have when your cars are stored down there.

Hey Colin loveing the build so far! My only suggestion is to be cautious of possible cold joints that could be created by not haveing a continuous pour possibly consider a joint sealand in conjunction with your rebar. Anyways keep up the great work its comeing together nicely!

You might benefit from placing a metal sheet on the ground when you're mining, so that the rocks fall onto the sheet and not the ground. It makes shoveling them up significantly easier, since you don't need to "dig" into the pile, just quickly slide the shovel along the sheet and slip it under the rubble.

I think that showing all the hardships parts of what you go through for us is a perfect thing to show on the second channel for the longtime fans to really appreciate even more how you do what you do. Thank you again!

It would be great if you could create a 3D scan of the secret construction at some point, so folks with VR headsets could experience this amazing project. Even viewing the 3D layout on a PC would be interesting .

One thing I would look into when you do more of the foundation pours is super plasticizer for the concrete. It allows the concrete to by really runny but without the use of excess water. Since too much water can lower the strength of the concrete and cause more shrinkage. We often use Plasticizer on Bridge work when we are pouring in areas where consolidating the concrete is difficult to do such as drilled shafts.

for the dehumidifier - if you haven’t already thought of it - build a sump to drain it into and set up a 12v float switch and pump (as you’d see on a boat) to pump out the sump as it fills up

Have you ever thought about getting a trailer concrete pump to pump concrete through a hose to get it back into those far reaches? Those small pumps are usually fairly cheap to rent but you do need to have some labor to move those hoses around and help cleanup a bit. You could pump through those holes in the floor before you weld them shut. Just a thought for a labor intensive project.

Perseverance is the quality needed when the going gets sticky and we all know Mr. Furze has plenty. Having worked in very small spaces I was just getting to the uncomfortable stage when you mentioned claustrophobia! Great video.

Colin, I love this project. I’d like to know some more of the boring details, maybe some other people would to! How does a project of this magnitude with such drastic changes to total square footage of the structures affect property value? What was getting forgiveness for the project to begin with like from the local planning offices, etc? How long did it take to convince the missus that this would be a cool idea? Whats it’s like to get up each day and go dig a tunnel? I was always under the impression that holes of a certain depth and width needing shoring structures to remain safe. Are ground and soil conditions in your area different enough to help keep the substrate together? What’s it been like learning all of this minutia about concrete, how it works structurally and how to get it to do what you need it to?
