The main reason I bought the Classics Moss Man was the 'new head'. To me, that head made him completely different than just being a flocked Beast Man. I LOVE him. He is absolutely one of my favorite figures. I never saw one in a store as a kid, and since MOTU Classics were pretty pricey, I was very selective about which ones I bought.
This reminds me how I got the original Moss Man in 1988... for a couple of hours. My grandma gave it to me as a birthday present, but then I noticed that the flock was falling off pretty quickly. I showed her the problem and she agreed with my fear that it would end up "hairless" pretty soon, so I put it back in the original box, glued the box back, making sure to align the background drawing, and brought it back to the toy store together with my grandma, telling the salesman "I already had one". Then I got Mosquitor as a replacement.
Oh, I remember the insanity with the flocking/unflocking ears, lol-)) He was sold out in 5 minutes or so, I remember. But i love his second head, because in the Classics line he steps out to be only a green, flocking Beast Man. He is indeed one of MotU`s most interesting characters.
Nice video! I'm so glad that you guys gave him both heads. I would have wanted him even if only one head was included, but it's great that we have them both! I could done with fewer 'smell chips' mixed in with the plastic though...like maybe none -Haha! After being out of the package for years, he still smells!
I had Moss Man as a kid, and I loved the way he blended into any foliage. He just disappeared. My siblings and I would set him out in the front yard, in plain sight, and challenge each other to find him. Kind of like hide and seek with a toy. One day, after my sister gave up and said she couldn't see him, I realized I didn't remember where I'd put him... and he was gone. I found him two weeks later when I ran over him with the lawn mower. :(
Fun video! Thank you! I got a real kick out of him being depicted as a nature god, as it ties in beautifully with the ancient "The Green Man" phenomenon -- loads of different cultures from around the world having a man covered with (or made of) plants, embodying nature, spring, and rebirth. I can imagine quite a few Eternian taverns called "The Moss Man" because of this connection.
While I had the original Moss Man as a kid, I honestly never recall him having a scent. Stinkor, for sure, I remembered, but not Moss Man. I wish the flocking on the Classics figure had looks a little nicer like some of the flocked protos look, but he still turned out to be pretty awesome. And of course, obsessive fan that I am, I had to end up getting both the flocked and non-flocked ears versions!
Got a megaconstrux one/flocked with air freshener. I did not know how much i was going to like this... Oddly satisfied. What a history behind such a peculiar object, it gave me pause when i realised this when i opened it. Am i alone in this? Im weird right? I am amazed by this and think as a part of american culture I just think it's such a weird thing to happen in history and to be cheezy kind of a beautiful thing.
I love moss man. One of my favorites as a kid.. One of 3 figures I bought doubles of to display both heads. I am a MOC collector so I was able to cut a little flap in the top of the bubble to swap his head.
With everything that went into the production of moss man he should be the most desired and sought after figure. Fang-Or for some strange reason happens to be currently the most expensive figure on eBay. My argument is that Moss Man had a lot more going into him and offers more than any other figure in the line and was probably the most difficult of all the figures to make, therefore, in my opinion he should be commanding the highest premium of any of the others.
He's a fantastic character and I loved the redesign in 200x and the added lore from Classics. I think with all that we can safely say he got bumped to Tier Two coolness Did you find a pic of the Four Horsemen's 200x design?? Omg, I would kill to see it. Thank you for the Classics extra head!!
The original Moss Man, that I had back in the 80s smelled so good. I didn't knew that it was designed that way, I simply thought he smells good. I'd recognize that smell in a split second and can even pull it out of my memory, yet it can't be described. Smelling a muscular dude, who only wears panties. No homo, Mossy.
I hate flocking and I hate scented plastic. Classics Moss Man was one of the few characters to which I had a childhood attachment that I sold off. I just couldn't stand how soft he looked and the pine smell was spreading to my other figures. I know you got a lot of heat for not flocking Panthor, but I loved how you guys did Classics Panthor. No flocking to bury the details and that new helmet was rad. It made no sense why Panthor would be flocked, but Battle Cat wasn't -- they're both cats! Even the flocking on the regular release King Grayskull annoyed me. If you were going to do that, it should have been fur like Grizzlor had. I guess I could remove the flocking...
