Secrets of the Power Break. If there’s any secrets in the pool-world this would be the best kept one. This video includes 16 vital keys to the power break and your job is to bring it all together as one thing to make it work for you.So you want to know how to power break, huh? Well you ound the right video.After 2 and a half straight hours to bring it together video-maker and pool player John Disque shows us how it’s done.
Pool tips galore in this video and it might be the most valuable information on the internet. When it comes to pool instruction no one does it better and it keeps on getting better.
This video goes way past the basics and has every pool instructor on RU-vid wishing they could break.
The truth is: the power break is something most players could master if they would just take the time to work on it, dial it in and stick with. Then you'll have to maintain it and adjust it according to the table you're playing on but they almost never do this. It's often the last thing of their game that they work on and they're putting themselves at a great disadvantage.
Get the edge on everyone else and start working on this break today!

"It's not available to break so hard, it's better to control the white ball".... said an older player to me when I asked him why he breaks very soft. This is about 30 years ago, it was in 1993 in Königswinter, Germany, during the 9-ball WCC. I was a bit confused because never saw softbreaking in 9-ball before. The name of this guy was......Grady Matthews! I remember this day like it was yesterday! RIP Grady

You can do both. Players that can't do both break soft and make excuses for themselves. Grady was a One Pocket player. If you don't think a power break is important than this video is not for you. Peace

A Yapp is really something. He was good a couple years ago, now he can take anybody. I really appreciate the detail you put into the list, I have been trying to develop this break for a few months now and some of your tips are great for me.

Well - that's always good to hear. Yeah - I think Yapp is exactly what's been needed in the pool world for a long, long time. Maybe that will become a trend and the sport will begin to heal our ugly scars. I always know when someone has what it takes when I see them working on things that no one else works on - particularly their break, their mental game and their stroke. If you look at the pros - they can all run-out. Ultimately what separates them is: their break. Different things work for different people. The key is to find what works for you and get consistent with it. Peace

I’m still in the stage of just trying to stay down and power through with a loosely held cue. The standing up stuff doesn’t work for me. If I had my own table, I’d practice your break more, but on a coin op, it’s just not worth it. I do love how natural you make it look.
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 6 месяцев назад
The break is the hardest part about 9 Ball and by hard I mean "learning to be consistently good." If you take a look at a pro tournament of 128 players about 1/2 of them are quite capable of hitting a gear, stringing racks together and winning the tournament. The one thing separating them is the consistency of their break and the most consistent on that particular day is going to win the tournament. You can wind up the greatest player in the world... If your break sucks you're not going anywhere and the pros are going to destroy you. Those who work on it will meet their goals. Those who don't will come up short. You'll also notice that every pro has a different style. They focus on what works for them. so this video is not saying, "Hey - copy me and do it my style." It's saying, "Here's 16 things that might work for you." Try them and if 1 or 2 works keep them and build off them and try to perfect them so you too can be more consistent." Peace

Everyone I've spoken to likes this guy. Steve (Old McDonald) McDonald who's in the background running many of the Diamond Tournaments including the Big foot Challenge at the Derby was hanging out with me and telling me all about him. My question was: Where the hell did he come from? One day I never heard of him and the next day he's beating every big-dog on Planet Earth. Fact is - he's been grinding it out at all these tournaments for years but always got knocked out around in the middle of the pack so no one paid much attention. Lately he's been putting it all together and shot through the middle straight to the top. Something clicked and he stopped settling for mediocre. Did you and I discuss the SVB time-out controversy when he was playing Yapp? If that wasn't you - check it out. Rollie Williams has a great video on it. It finally concludes with one of the greatest displays of sportsmanship I've ever seen in the pool world.... and the sportsman was Aloysius Yapp. Great player / Great human being. It's refreshing to see. Peace!

That's a heck of a break you're really moving that 9-ball around. Was heading toward the top right pocket alot.This is going to take a little athleticism. I might be a little too old to get this down but I'ma definitely give it a try. Thanks John. Good picture of you and Buddy! You doing a great job and you're the best at explaining. Like finding out that you need to put a lot of weight on your bridge hand and really plant it on the table. Excellent teacher. Always enjoy your videos.
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 2 года назад
Hi Lester... Getting the 9 Ball moving is a result of breaking closer to the center. It's the 2 Ball, which is in the back of the rack, bouncing off the bottom rail and coming straight back into the 9 ball. There have been times I tried to get it down to a science but it's impossible. The only thing you really have any control over is the wing-ball, the cue-ball and the 1-ball. All the rest is "hit and hope." Yes - weight on the bridge-hand is vital. This is also important in regular shots. Of course you don't have to put as much weight on everyday shots as you do on your break... but it's more than a lot of guys and girls know... A flimsy, delicate bridge is not good. (I'll be covering this issue in another video soon). Peace!

I try to cover all the details of whatever issue the video is focusing on. A lot of creators are making 4-5 minute videos saying, "this is what you do," and most of them have no clue of what they're talking about. They're not covering how to do it, why to do it, when to do it, etc... It's a factory of shit but the newer players don't know so they keep gobbling it up. (I will never, ever do that to you guys). Great video John. I have been working on all the items mentioned and having some amazing success. Question is where is the optimal landing spot for the cue ball. I noticed on my table theres a ton of spots about 6 inches away from the rack. Watching slo mo replays shows my cue ball bounces off the slate then bounces up before hitting the 1 ball in the rack. Should it bounce or should I be getting the cue ball traveling shorter/longer with more or less elevated cue at impact? Whats the right way to look at this? Thanks!
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 11 месяцев назад
Hi Alex - Thanks. If I understand the question right............. Longer... When you really have the break dialed in you'll see the cue-ball is off the table on the break and if it comes down before the rack it's going to bounce up and hit the ball at the top and you won't be able to control it. You want to cue ball coming down and hitting the 1-Ball at the same, exact time it hits the table. This will result in the cue-ball bouncing back and the spin on the cue-ball will be killed so all it can do is park itself in the center. Peace

it depends on where they line up bro if they want a cut break or a wide open pop to the middle
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 2 года назад
The cut-break and the power break is two totally different things. I haven't made the video on the cut-break yet, which is a whole lot softer than a power-break....., but I'll cover it soon. On a 9 Ball break... where you break from comes down to finding the break spot on that particular table..., on that particular day. I covered this issue extensively about 2-3 weeks ago. I've covered 3 parts of a long break series that could wind up 50 parts long because there's so many topics. Each pool game (8 ball, 9 ball, one pocket, banks, etc) calls for a different style of break and that 8 or 9 videos right there.

Hi John, Great video! I have been working on my power breaks for weeks now and I get a good break but my cue ball jumps back then drives forward from spin I Guess top spin? But I can’t stop it in less I hit softer the it don’t bounce back ?
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque Год назад
Hi Billy, Yeah a little too much top. You don't want this because it increases your chance of scratching and it decreases your odds of having a clear shot on the 1 ball. I usually use center ball and maybe a hair of top (like 1/4 of a tip) because it helps to park the cue ball instead of bouncing off the rack and rolling backward, up table. It just depends on the table and how tight the rack is. You can help it - it's just going to take a little more work to keep your elbow up just a little longer. Peace
@billyperkins5115
@billyperkins5115 Год назад
I’m getting it ! more often than not still not making a ball all the time, but the Cue ball and 1 ball is working out most the time. Thank you VERY much, I had a very weak break shot before this video.
@drick2659
@drick2659 2 года назад
You have a very powerful break. My question is you didn't make a comment on how you wrap your elbow back almost as if you have a Keith McCready backswing. Any reason you do that?
@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 2 года назад
Yeah --- I developed that when I was a kid and didn't want to mislead anyone with it. It's just one of my quirks. If you're rising up on the back of your cue and your elbow is straight up you're limited on how high you can rise while keeping your elbow in-line. This would make it difficult to come through the shot while having a level cue at the cue-ball hit. The whole reason for rising up on the back of the cue is to have more travel-distance and therefore develop more speed. Because I didn't have any instruction or guidance this is how I taught myself to do it. We all have subtle quirks in our game..... If they're hurting you then you fix it. If they're helping you then you accept it. Peace.

hi , when i saw the one tip lean back i don't do that consistence where i notice bad break , oh and Wednesday night i have good night in league night 1 out of my 5 games i have 1 run out table after opponent dry break. 2 of the games should have been lost but me my team mate took advantage of it .The opponent call me beast well my shooting was ok except my break . Before 2018 i was consistence on break just somewhat lost it .that 1 run out i have i end up banking the 8 ball cross side for the finish .

Well - just recognizing when you have a runable table is a step above most players. You should examine what led-up to the bad position on the 8 ball and work on that... along with your break. You're doing good.... just keep progressing and try to figure out what changed in 2018. Peace

Yes - I have used them and they're OK but I prefer the one I'm using now, made by Cyclone. The company that made them gave them to known players in America just to get feedback and input from the players before they began mass-making them and distributing them..... They never got marketed or sold to the public because Cyclone went on to bigger things and needed their money to market those products. Peace

@JohnDisque
@JohnDisque 2 года назад
It's good advice Mr Jake. Ultimately it comes down to what works for each individual player. The toughest thing is to be consistent with the break but it's always the last thing players work on.... while being the most important part of pool. No one wants to shoot one shot and then rerack over and over. It takes work and at first it doesn't seem like any progress is being made.... but knowing the something is wrong is just as useful as knowing something is right. Peace!

It's filled with hard-working, hard-partying people who've always treated me well. The French were treated badly when they first arrived in America so they kept migrating further south. They became the first people to treat Native Americans with respect and they joined forces and became friends to live and function together in peace. This will give you more speed and control, because it's not about power - it's about the speed of the cue-stick.
