I hope folks got to #4 because even “good” formulations can be “bad” for us. Just because everyone likes a product, doesn’t mean you have to. Don’t force your hair to like something it clearly doesn’t like. I learned this the hard way.

"Different strokes for different folks" should be an anthem in the natural hair community. Stop ditching products that work for you just because a RU-vidr/guru said to. Look at what happened with grease people jumped on the no grease bandwagon without doing their research when grease is the reason why a lot of our grandmothers and mothers have healthy long hair.
@stephaniemaybin2755
@stephaniemaybin2755 3 года назад
I totally agree! I have been saying if grease was bad, then everyone that used it back in the day should have been bald headed. Also, people fail to realize that African Americans are some of the most genetically diverse people on the planet! So, of course our hair will differ from person to person even within the same family. So, each one has to find what works best for them.

Technique is KEY...I ran out and bought the Melanin hair oil after one of my fav youtuber raved about it. I thought it was TRASH. I was so mad because it was so expensive!!! I didn't throw it away. Then one day I decided to use it another way. Instead of putting it on my hair like she did, I just put it on my scalp. Now it's working so well, and my hair stays moisturized until I have to wash it again in a week. Not sure why putting it on my scalp sealed in the moisturize better than putting it directly on my hair 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Peace and hair grease! :) I've been on RU-vid trying to figure out how to take care of my natural hair, finally. Through MUCH trial, error, and dollars... my scalp and hair pre-poo loves virgin olive oil or apricot oil. For my scalp and sealant...? Shhhh... HAIR GREASE! On accident, I reached for my Mimosa Hair Honey thinking I dipped into my gel. WHAT THE???? I SAID WHAT THE? My hair loves the pomade. It transformed my hair! I should have known. When I was a kid, I had pig tails past my shoulders. Hair grease, olive oil and/or crisco. That's what my mother used on my hair. Let's bring that back... and don't tell the curly enthusiasts - it'll confuse the hell outta them. :) So glad I found you. Keep blinding us with Science. ;)

Our hair is as individual as our finger prints , unique in all its ways. I’m not one for jumping on and off “ band wagons “, so I don’t follow a lot of “ new trends “. I’m now using more ingredients from my location as I’m sure “ climate” and how our hair responds to certain ingredients makes a huge difference. It’s a bit like “ eating local and in season” for nourishing of our bodies is now translated to “ nourishing “ our hair. Point in case , I was using “ horsetail , nettle and wild mint as a leave in tea. My hair was strong , but it sounded like someone rubbing “ two plastic jugs together “, just weird. So I switched it up and used it as a base for home made shampoo, the results is like nigh and day. PS thanks for the content. 😊❤️

Girl, I have bra strap length hair and I take my own products to the salon and I have had to mix my conditioner myself as she acts like she is paying for it. I combine with alma, coconut and castor oils, rosemary and peppermint in an applicator cup. Every single time she complains about how much I am using and I say well I moisturize very infrequently and my hair is not breaking so obviously this works. But the arguing man is annoying. I cannot use Aphogee, my hair hates it.

Onion juice and garlic. No matter what form, ie in an oil or pure juice. It was 6 months of having a smelly house and wasted time and energy. I should have stopped doing it much earlier but everybody was getting such good results. However I struggled with clays until I got a recipe which combined the three from Green Beauty and my hair sang! I now do a Shikaki wash and a clay treatment once a month and my hair is finally growing!

Thank you for articulately explaining the 'why's'. I haven't come across anyone with the level of understanding that you have and the ability to explain the processes so well. I'm the person who wants to understand the methodology. I even bug my doctors about how a medicine works on my body before I agree to a prescription 😁. I don't have curly hair, but I love your vids. I do have fine'ish, almost medium density, 2a/2b hair. Probably low/mid porosity. I would love some mentions of lighter weight products/ingredients that would be good for wimpy hair, and also what do you do when you aren't low porosity, aren't high porosity. Do you err on the side of smaller molecules, lighter weight products and less moisture?

What do you think about using aloe vera gel, honey, and glycerin with a penetrating oil overnight as a prepooing method for low porosity hair every week? I don’t remember necessarily a product that didn’t work for me, but I do have a product that stopped working as well for me based off a change in climate. I used to live in Ohio and my go to for products was Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter gel, followed by my go to Avocado oil. However, I’ve been living in Southern California close to the desert for almost 3 years. Since then avocado was just not enough and I had to try the hair grease option. Still using my same products for wash day, and styling, but ultimately hair grease is really the only thing that helps retain the moisture.

Hair grease seems to be so controversial. I’ve heard so many cosmetologists say to never touch it again, so I’m interested to see your video on it. I used it after a fresh blow out last year when I ran out of Mizani Rose H20 hair dress, and I was amazed at how long my hair stayed moisturized. My hair wasn’t “wind blown” like usual but I was surprised that it wasn’t super weighed down either. Great video!

I don't use hair grease because my hair takes a few days to get moisturized, after washing, so I don't want to block out moisture. I feel like my hair has both high and low porosity features --it takes a few days before its fully moisturized, after washing, but then the moisture can then last for at least 3-4 days without refreshing; however, it also loves heavy creams.

I just used the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line on my hair. It made my hair dry. Apparently it has too much protein for my fine strands.

I'm starting to think I'm medium porosity...just based off how my hair has been acting lately...🤷🏿‍♀️ Anywho, anything Carol's Daughter my hair is NOT a fan of. I've heard that the ingredients have changed, so maybe that's the issue? But I had a huge set back and had to starting using something else on my hair.

Curls Blueberry Bliss is a popular among RU-vid influencers. It did not work for my hair. The cream or gel.

Maui Moisture Curl Quench and Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie did not agree with my hair. It was extremely drying. Maybe I applied it wrong, since I didn't use the whole line, but I've been afraid to try anything else from Maui Moisture after that.

Sis. When are you coming out with your own product line? Shea moisture ( I tried several lines) didn't work for me. Either it dried out my hair, or it irritated my scalp so badly, my scalp was on fire.

I would like to know now to effectively use glycerin in cold, dry climates. I can use product with a low level of glycerin in the fall and spring. But only in the summer if paired with a mousse. Using a mousse in the winter doesn't work though?? I think that contributes to why people think we can't use a product or that it has stopped working for us...maybe its the season or how the ingredients act in that particular climate/environment???

I love pre poo and I use Aloe Vera, I also love over night conditioners and also leave the conditioner in my hair longer than what the bottle says and I find my hair does be really soft and manageable but I watch a RU-vidr name (Mo) something can't remember the full name but she say that pre poo is a myth and leaving on conditioners all is also a myth. She say from the time the water hits our hair it looses up the hair and stop it from tangling up

Facts!!! My hair is medium porosity but I use grease and butters because I like how they feel. It doesn’t take super long to dry but does lose moisture within 4 days or so but I never wait that long. But you right we get no love😭😭

I said the same thing. I finally found Up North Naturals, a line out of Canada made with aloe and all natural products that work perfectly for normal hair. They have butters, milks, gels, etc. So, you can switch it up and stay in the same line.

@@alexismassenburg7514 We get no love. I'm just the opposite, I retain moisture a long time. Can go weeks after wash day without doing anything but braiding at night, no added products and unbraiding and styling in the daytime. By the time I hit that 5 day after wash day the moisture has kicked incredibly. She is soft, shiny, fluffy, juicy and lux.

I have found that ALOT of these “natural hair” products and DIYs whips don’t work for My hair.... I have found that my hair does do well with products that have silicone ingredients though. I have high porosity hair. I’m in the middle of comparing the ingredients in those natural and synthetic products.

What leave can you use form MAXIMUM moisture if you have natural, fine, high porosity hair. You know you said high porosity hair needs leave ins containing oil...but if you're a fine haired giel the last thing you want is a bunch of oils weighing your hair down. Also what are your thoughts in the infusium 23 leave in as far as ingredients?
