We just started homeschooling a high schooler and an elementary schooler and are secular and I was so overwhelmed! Thank you so much for putting your experience and advice out here for us. I feel a little more confident with how we're going to approach things and what options my kiddos have! Thank you, much love!

Finding anything for homeschooler in highschool that is not religious and white washed is so hard. Co-op where we are isn't an option. They require you to sign a statement of faith and then my hubby is the only minority at any of the meetings and stuff. Add to that, my kid hates school and its a battle. We have used some of the religious stuff because of cost/availability and if she rolled her eyes any harder, they would roll away lol.

Whenever I am forced to use a religious curriculum I use it as a teachable moment to teach about other religions and differences. It's a way for me to sneak history in. I have to remind myself that my kids will be faced with religion in their life and my goal is to teach them to be inclusive and nonbias, treat everyone with respect and grace, and the only way for them to really do that is to learn about all the religions. This is the speech I give myself when I have a religious curriculum forced on me. LOL

@@nontraditionalmommy I tell my daughter pretty much the same. She asks me all the time if religion is supposed to teach people to love their neighbor, why do they side eye her daddy all the time or act like its impossible for a black man to be a father to a white child. I keep telling her that is isn't the religion doing that, its the people. She has taken an interest in Buddhism the last week or so I guess there's that. She was reading a book about the Plague this morning and it talked about the actions of the Catholic church. She made the comment that an awful lot of bad things had been done to people in the name of religion. So I guess THAT will have to be a topic soon. She knows the Bible so next is probably the Torah. I intend to make her learn the most important religious documents.

I empathize completely. Now I can push forward more knowing I am not alone in this.

Also if you need secular science for the other kids, check out Elemental Science. It's got everything from Grades 1-12. We love it.

Hi Rhonda I have done two reviews over moving beyond the page as a curriculum in general! I have linked the videos below. If you want one just over the physical science curriculum let me know! We're using Guest Hollow for Geography. I've heard about the Chemistry course and heard it's GREAT! How'd it work out for ya? I've been considering it.

Moving beyond the page is amazing. I’m so surprised it’s not more popular. But I couldn’t use it anymore because I never had time to prep or use it properly. Thank you for all these suggestions. This is so helpful to me. I almost got Woke History last year but heard somewhere it was very Christian? I’m going to look again and look forward to hearing your opinions.

Does Oh Freedom! cover the big topics that are expected to be known in college in addition to the things public school isn’t talking about? A lot of inclusive curriculums I’ve found don’t cover those core events as well.

I would also like to see more about the Chemistry as you get into it. I am interested in it, but since it is a Math-free Chemistry, I wasn't sure about using it as the Chemistry for much college-bound student.

This was very helpful, especially for secular families. Wondering why families dont choose to stay with time for learning the whole way through high school if they offer through 12th grade? Is ir because their curriculum isnt very extensive? Thanks for your insight. Im new to all this and appreciate the info!

Thank you so much for this video. I needed help for my 10th grader who asked me to teach his classes as well. He is taking a couple college classes, but all others I will teach. I do have a questions, sorry if I missed this detail. Did the lab kit come from the same company you purchased the Biology textbook from?

I'm really interested in using the oh freedom curriculum. Do you know if there is an 8th grade version?
@nontraditionalmommy
@nontraditionalmommy 10 месяцев назад
From my understanding, it's not really grade-based. It qualifies as a high school history curriculum credit, but your 8th grader could easily use the program! And if you are homeschooling, I would check with your umbrella school to see if you could count that course as a high school credit, so you are double dipping and killing two birds with one stone! 😊
