I loved Catherine’s book. She was a mama bear. And never stopped fighting. I’m glad India showed the ugliness she had to endure so people know how horrible he and the cult he started were. How many people have suffered and died, because of him and the women and men that he brainwashed or seduced to believe him. I’m still disturbed by Nancy Salzman thinking she was aware of what she did and was doing. I think like him it was about money and control and power. She loved being treated like she was some sort of person that was like all these great people. I mean it was laughable when the cult compared her to Einstein. But she loved all that utter crap they would say about her. And the power she had.
If I had a book u wouldn’t have ever known about it. If my young adult child was out there living this life and I was beating the streets and wrote a book.. that’s the deal. As sorry as I am there are far more regular folks being affected by these types of things. Sad but true my book would never get out.. my movie would never make it. Cults exist on so many levels. Wow, it's such a touching healing journey, and all through there's this love, which comes to live between the four of you... which you see all through the series. India is so genuine... she also broke a spell. The disconnection between mothers and daughters in her family. Makes me wonder about mothers and daughters in general. Were we first "indoctrinated" to be submissiveness by our mothers? Do men "free" women from their mothers only to be submissiveness to them? And the way those women helped India in... but others helped her out... I feel like there is a female magic connection created by all the women on this project... It's only one man... helpless man... a man made by all the wonderful women around him... and a story that goes right through my heart. My roommate and I in college escaped a cult. They attempted to force us to leave our apartment and move in with their unjoyful 'households' once we joined their cultish church setup. We were doing everything else but God saved us by not moving in with them. I thank God that we escaped the trauma of a controlling church that almost sucked us in. It is sad that humans love becoming 'godlike' to others. We have to be sure to continually shed our worshipping of the created -- rather than the created. Only the Spirit should be worshipped. Never the human. The ever controlling cults ruin many people's lives. The trauma 💔 😢 of controlling people--even in marriages is shattering to humans. We have to train our children of these hostile environments to save them from getting sucked into these.
"I just finished watching 'The Vow,' and I would like to watch 'Seduced.’ If I find it somewhere. It seems very important to me to make people reflect on the danger of cults, sects, or groups that restrict free thinking and use manipulation to take advantage of others. Today more than ever, we see these kinds of examples, and it worries how people are persuaded to set aside their values and principles to follow crazy and irrational leaders. These skilled manipulators know how to exploit people's needs or touch their beliefs, and from there, they harm the individual and get what they want. Nobody is immune but we can learn to listen and see the signs and use our survival instincts.
I watched The Vow, then the Missing Women of Nxivm, then Seduction. I have two questions: 1st: if a girl was lock up for almost 2 years for kissing a boy, what happened to the boy (did Keith punish him)? 2nd: If India isn't guilty, why is Allison Mack (who was obviously rail thin and also brain washed)? The "loyalists" sure remind me of "Charlie's Girls" - Manson had his loyalists too

even though allison was brainwashed, she still victimized others and caused their suffering. if you look at the tasks she assigned to her "slaves," there's real sadism in there, even if it was conditioned into her. we can have empathy and also recognize the need for consequences for those actions, even if sometimes grappling with that is difficult and complex and nuanced and not always understood (by myself included - i don't think i have the answers). however, i think we can still see empathy for allison as a victim in her sentencing compared to that of keith's - allison got 3 years whereas keith got 120.
Please stop telling people this could happen to anyone. That is not true. Some of us would never accept sex with a 6 year old is a matter of perception. NXIVM members accepted it and repeatedly took courses instructing how it's okay to have sex with children or for a woman to be raped. Not everyone would pay the money to do this and feel tethered to the investment. Not everyone would accept the misogyny taught. People did leave, people choose to not fall into it after taking the first classes. The NXIVM members who stayed for years ignored their moral compass, they ignored their gut instinct. They were complacent and felt they were better than the rest of the world. That arrogance allowed their leader and these "teachings" to proliferate. Trying to convince us we will do the same instead of fortify individuals to think for themselves is more of the gas lighting Raniere used against this cult, just turned on the audience. This tactic seeks to absolve former members of their own guilt and is not meant to empower others to think for themselves. Instead you want us all to believe we CAN'T think for ourselves and/or resist influence from others.
I paid $7.00 to RU-vid and watched all four episodes. Very well-done documentary, I really enjoyed it. India was very lucky to get out of the cult when/how she did, she could very easily be dead or in jail as a result of her involvement. India, and everyone, read the Old and New Testament (New American Bible translation) and begin/strengthen your spiritual knowledge/journey. Father-Son-Holy Ghost will not mislead/fail you. God Bless
Just as interesting and disturbing as Keith's psychology is the psychology of the cult's participants and supposed victims. Seems like these people have created quite a little sub-industry for themselves with books, paid talks, documentaries and lots of public exposure on mainstream and alternative media. I am more interested in the psychology of the 150 women that were in the DOS inner circle and what it is about them that may be disturbing. Google did a study on the porn fantasy searches of females and the top five searches were vampires, werewolves, pirates, billionaires and surgeons. This is interesting data.
Sounds like we are being groomed to worship these women. Plenty of warnings regarding Cults and cultlike behaviour. I enrolled in a Dru Yoga teacher training course and was then confronted his retreat was a Cult, women were starved, sexually abused even children. Weirdest thing was i was the only who immediately left the course and plenty of others kept defending Mansukh Patel. That felt deeply alone, needing all my courage to stand my truths.

Making a series about the story. Paid photo sessions for magazines and interviews. When Catherine appears first time on a talk show to get the attention from the law enforcement. Short after she had her daughter back and now all is about money making. We heard so much that it becomes boring!

Now she’s attempting to skip out on legal matters by being a victim and pretending she’s suddenly seen the light! And on top of not being put in jail, she also gets paid thousands to interview with people like Ellen and Laura Dern lol. Listening to Laura be so over the top (“can’t stop the bleeding, etc.”) I’ve realized how deeply deeply invested our country has become in victims/villains, and just wanting a “trauma” story. As grown-ass women, how do you not recognize that you are being played when someone (a stranger) asks you to entrust them with sensitive & private information about yourself and your family? And after doing so, you are compelled to play a victim. As the saying goes “if you don’t want your privacy exposed, then keep your mouth closed and protect it at all cost”. Likewise, how do you permit yourselves to call any other person “master”??? Or allow yourself to ask for permission to say or do anything? So if you are victims, you did it to yourselves. To say that you didn’t feel comfortable but did it anyway, is you suppressing the God voice your were born with… the voice that protects you. That’s what makes this sad. And makes it quite difficult for me to feel sorry for you & your situation because in your heart, you knew internally that this sh.. was wrong.
Wow sounds like you have no idea what manipulation is. It wasn’t like they were telling them what they were doing to them. They were slowly convinced over years to give themselves completely to the organization. These women were lied too, starved and sleep deprived. I doubt you would make perfect decisions in a situation like that.
There’s only one on this panel that was in the cult which she joined as a teenager, she never made people under her do things that Alison Mack did, in fact she protected them from Keith. She never felt comfortable with doing anything to the people she got to join. She was a kid when she joined, she didn’t break the law like the others one in the cult did.
