In this Star Citizen video we look at how to achieve a night vision effect in Star Citizen allowing players to see better in dark places, using a CIG supported tool called ReShade. RedLir will guide you through the setup and install of ReShade and provide presets to get you started with night vision in Star Citizen.
CIG has indicated they will be adding vision enhancements to the game in the future, but we will likely have to wait some time for them to arrive. These ReShade profiles are a great way to get pseudo night vision effect in the meantime.

Awesome! Now how do you install the goddamned things? Link in the desc leads to Sweet FX which requires an entirely different download and program than ReShade. The image showing the presets in the video states its on the ReShade website, but the website you linked doesnt lead to that at ALL, even after digging around for the Star Citizen cat

In 2952 they decided that having elevation markers and a bleak altimiter feeding a number(that sometimes is acurate) should be enough to cancel or tone down other reduntant systems such as: thermal/nvg, Heading indicators, tilt, aoa, glass cockpit or other seemingly useless things. Same colored markers on the screen would make up for any other information a safe(cowardly) pilot would need.

This looks great, gonna try it out over the weekend. Still hoping CIG drops night/thermal/infrared vision as well as having the glass on ships tint to stop the star blinding us (a toggle/option for it would be preferred over forced implementation)

I downloaded ReShade 5.4.2 . The console opens just fine within the game with no issues. However, I'm kinda at a loss about how to add your two presets to the list within the console. When I use your links in the comments to those, it dl's a .txt file. How do I and where do I properly paste them within ReShade?

they should built night vision module to upgrade helmets. and a sesnor tool for ships. but yet it shoud give real to life result, and not boosting up dark points. thats the joy of the game to struggle in the dark.

Thanks very much for this. I can get the grey NV shader working and it's already very useful, but the green one will not work for me. When selected from the menu it seems to load the filters/effects then bugs out. Anyone else have this problem?

Landing pads ... how hard would it be to put some decent light on the pads at space stations? Space ports are dark and hard to see at the best of times, but well lit pads, maybe even with a big, brightly lit pad number, would have made life SO much easier before we got station hangars recently. Space stations should be absurdly well lit ... it can't have been that hard to do.

Look at Kareah in SC. The security outpost at Cellin. All landing pads are well lit. A very special station with low traffic is better lit than space stations like Everous Harbour.

I tried reshade and I find I prefer to adjust the gamma in the game setting though I wish there is a binding for that. If I adjust for the dark then its too bright with the sun and vice versa. I just cannot find a happy medium where I don’t have to adjust the visual settings.

Yes surprisingly you can see 'more' with cranking the in game settings than these ReShade profiles, they're just handier. CIG definitely wants to put in NV and even polarized cockpits.. unfortunately we'll just have to wait until they get there.

trying to use it, but any presets used won't activate the tick boxes under the home tab of Reshade ingame. When trying to run the two provided presets or even the Nightvision_ColorV2 by Epin. Any known fixes for this issue of presets not activating? Edit: Got the two presets working, just wish I could get the colored one working lol Edit 2: Found out what was wrong, the settings text provided on the SweetFX page is right, but the preset he has saved for download on the same page is completely different and broken. so just copy and pasted the text into a file and used that instead.

I want to try it myself, mining in the dark side of Lyria can be a trouble sometimes :P Gotta ask tho, since I'm an absolute ignorant when it comes to configuring software, how do I implement the Greyshade preset in ReShade ? Already downloaded and installed it, but can't find any option to "upload" presets. Maybe I need to change the file format or something similar?

It's covered in the install section of the video but basically when you finish or skip the tutorial after bringing up the ReShade console, there is a preset selection at the top. If you click it you can point to a file on disk.

Is there anyway that I can set this up to work with a VKB SEM? I have 3 presets installed and want to be able to switch between them with the 1-4 Mode switch on the VKB SEM.

I switch between presets using my vkb kosmosima. I enabled keyboard support with extended F keys in the VKB config, bound a button to keyboard F14 and then mapped to the next preset keybind in ReShade.

I think Hayding's clarity was a decent start. The biggest improvement is the tonemap effect that removes the grey/green coloring CIG puts over the game. Nothing else is really necessary.

If it's installed correctly per the video it launches when you start sc. The home key the home key on your keyboard and will bring up the reshade menu inside the game. Cheers

I tried this and didn’t get the option to install all presets during installation. It just told me Installation Complete after I selected Direct X 10,11,12. I downloaded the Reshade (Green/Grey) as described but wasn’t sure where to install these? I put them in the same location as the Reshade Me program (SC/LIVE/Bin64) but still, I can’t toggle the effects with my selected key once selected in the menu. Do you know what I might’ve done wrong as really would like to try this awesome workaround out? Thanks 🙏

I generally put them in their own folder, but you need to select the preset you want to load by default on the home tab of ReShade in game. The bar of the top is clickable, and lets you navigate to a file.

When you are in reshade after the tutorial there is a preset section at the top on the home tab where you can select presets you want to load. I just put them in their own folder, the presets can be anywhere you want.

You certainly could darken things and dynamically as well. ReShade has an FX called Eye Adapatation that can dim or brighten the screen depending how much of a % you set as the trigger etc. Great for really bright moons and planets during high noon!

I created a filter that grants almost perfect planetary/ground color and detail in extremely dark environments more-so than the two mentioned in the video that I worked on for a few hours tonight. Let me know if you are interested and I will send the file for you to test with.

@@xBloodXGusherx I just uploaded it to the presets page as Nightvision_ColorV1! Let me know what you think; I am open to suggestions, but I tried refining it as much as I could. It works best on foot on dark planets/ships/caves. Not very suitable for flying, or in space. This NV is supposed to work in tandem with Red's other two NV presets.

just tried to download your presets from your link. they download as a text file (SweetFX_Settings_b'Star Citizen'_b'NightVision_Grey_RedLir'.txt), not an FX file that reshade needs. they will not compile a txt file. what do I need to use your presets?

That's the format their website converts it to. Put them anywhere you want and select the default preset name on the home page and navigate to the file

I make a choice in not using it but am not against it if CIG have not banned this. I can definitely see benefits in using it if you are playing PvE but not quite sure whether it gives too much of an advantage to PvP play as i am not a PvPer. Cheers and thanks for sharing.

It gives an advantage of better sight, but then again, how is it an advantage if you don’t know if the other player using it or not. It’s a public info, it’s a tool that isn’t banned by CIG, if you choose to use it. It’s cool, if not, it’s still cool! Fair & square.

That's how the reshade website provides them. Click the name bar on the home page where the default preset is listed. It will let you navigate your drive to the file. Cheers

Interesting. After it's installed and is compiling on game startup, the ReShade dialogue at the top of the screen should tell you the shortcut key to open the menu. Does it say "Home" for you? That should be the default. Cheers.

You see, the real reason NVGs aren't in game is because, due to totally legit lore reasons, NVGs have followed their real life price patterns and somehow cost more than an entire capital ship for a top of the line pair. Seriously, you can get some low res IR cams for cheap, but my god do proper NVGs run up a pricetag.

Can't say I agree with this. For photo editing sure but for in-game I strongly disagree. I hope CIG implements their own night vision and bans all other third party programs. With this reshade thing coming up so much I imagine they will here soon enough. Good video.

I agree. If it's not available by default in game it's a hack. This gives you an unfair advantage over other players. I agree night vision should be a thing but not right now until CIG implements it. I can't believe anticheat allows this. I think in order for you to play SC you have to give CIGs tools permission to ensure no cheat programs are being ran in the background.

Imagine players using this just to not crash into the next gorram rock (there are really enough annoying bugs to loose ships to already in the game) and not caring about PvP at all. There are at least two different ways to get a similar result but this is by far the most fancy looking one to date. Also: LOL. Elite has this all for years - including outlines on ships - and yet PvP (and ganking) thrives but at least nobody is in tears about "fiddling with gamma".

@@MtthwSmmns it should not be considered a hack since CIG has gone out of their way and implemented the ability to use it. Hence why it's even in their patch notes as to what version of reshader to use.

I can't believe people are crying about this calling it cheating 🤣some seriously dumb people in the world, my monitor comes with a "night vision" preset (ups gamma and makes everything a green tint), is that cheating if I use that ? 😂what about turning up my gamma and brightness settings in game? what about turning all the settings in the game to the ones that get the most FPS with furthest render distance? Is using a poop-bucket cheating too ? 🤣
