@AgeOfGoldenSilence

That is a solid reach. With all due respect, being upstanding is not a western value per se. A good leader and a reason to fight make a big big difference. Putin has neither, Zelensky has both.
@ashroskell
@ashroskell 10 месяцев назад
@@AgeOfGoldenSilence : Not at all. You think they would have taken Zelensky prisoner? When Putin had already stated that he intended to kill him? There’s still a price on his head. When Zelensky gave his first speeches of the war he knew he was talking to a room full of people who could all survive the war if Russia won it, which everyone, including the Ukrainians expected, and that he was the only man marked for certain death regardless. But his thoughts were with the soldiers who were already dying in the streets of Kyiv, and their families. So far, Zelensky has avoided several assassination attempts and Putin has made his death official Russian policy. Putin also knew that when he pulled his (soft) coup in Russia, he didn’t leave any survivors, which was why he fled. Because he knew what he would do if he was Prigozhin.

@@xjunkxyrdxdog89 I mean yes, understandably Ukraine would prefer Nato nations over Russian. However, Nato nations were surrounding Russians by expanding eastwards right up to Russian territory, putting Russia in a situation were they can easily be invaded as they are surrounded by America on the east and other Nato countries on the west. And with Western governments controlling social media they can paint Russia as the bad person, justifying an invasion. I am not saying that Russia invading Ukraine is good at all and what is happening to the citizens is very tragic but most Russian troops are being threatened, and also brainwashed into thinking Ukraine are the 'bad guys'. @kaedenwebb7623 your apologist phrasing reveals your bias. Name one nato nation that "expanded" its boarders eastward? New nations joining nato isn't aggression. Sad that a neighbouring nation embracing genuine citizen representation in their government was so threatening to Putin he felt he had to crush it before the Democratic fever spread into his nation. THERE WAS NO THREAT TO RUSSIA OR THE RUSSIAN CITIZENS BY NATO OR ANY OTHER NATION ON THE PLANET. The only threat was Putin losing his grip on the citizens of Russia from within. This war is 100% his ego not wanting to step down as dictator and let genuine representation for the citizens take over the government of Russia.

Mrs. Kuznetsova calls her son's commander. "Comrade Commander, our son was killed 6 months ago. The MoD promised a one million ruble death benefit. We never received it. Can you help us?" Commander: "Mrs. Kuznetsova, your son wasn't killed. He deserted. We don't know where he is. There is no death benefit." Commander hangs up and directs the death benefit to be paid to his own bank account.

I think with these sort of opponents, that are there to clear their prison sentence, you can convince them to surrender, if you grand them a release into some other country, instead of a prisoner exchange. It will increase the likeliness of them giving up the fight. Which will aid in the victory of Ukraine. That should help the cause. Greetings, Jeff

Putin attacked Ukraine and it was important for him that the West did not interfere with him in this. In recent years, Putin has received a lot of support from the West, especially from Merkel and Trump, and this despite Russian aggression in recent years in Moldova, Georgia, Crimea, Donbass, Aleppo and the "Novichok" poisoning. And now Putin is very hopeful that the West will reduce assistance to Ukraine and he will get his way.

Half of war it seems is keeping your humanity. I 100% respect anyone who manages to keep one’s humanity during the insanity of war. Like Ukrainians giving aid to wounded surrendered Russians. I read a few stores where even our enemies tried to do the right things during WW1 and WW2. Like how a German soldier heard Hitler had ordered landmarks, bridges, and historical places be dynamited. While officers wired the dynamite, he snuck into the fortified building where all the detonators were kept….and deliberately locked him self in the building. The enraged officers could not break in in time before allied forces captured the area and building. Let’s just say locals consider him a hero and allied soldiers left him alone after a background check cleared him. Apparently a few Germans stayed behind after main forces retreated and they helped with the post war clean up 100% willingly. While many hated the Germans, they would begrudgingly accept “that one bastard”, because they remembered he was “not an asshole”. Apparently if your an enemy soldier, but you at least are nice/respectful of locals (or POW’s you watch), they will sometimes remember that may save your butt later. Read a few stores where POW’s defended those guarding them because they at least respected the POW’s and overlooked small acts of defiance/smuggling. Read one story where the German Guards were horrified by Hitlers orders to kill all POW’s and offered the prisoners weapons to fight against the SS who were coming. Thankfully allied troops got there first. Apparently Non-SS German Officers hated the SS.

Hearts and Minds: If Russian soldiers realize that it is relatively safe to surrender and that they will be treated better than in their army, they will opt for giving up without much of a fight. One combatant less for the orcs, safer for the AFU troops. The prisoner may eventually switch sides to these Russian Legion or the AFU directly or pass information voluntarily. They will surely also spread their stories _after_ the war and help promote the truth in a post-war Russia lowering the possibilities of a new imperial adventure of whomever will be in power by then. And last but not least, Russian prisoner get swapped 1:1 for Ukrainian ones. On the other side, I do agree with you. I find it very difficult to care.
