Seeding for the FINAL Time // What To Do When Seed Washes Out

I am seeding my lawn for the final time...at least let's hope this it is for this section. I had three seed washouts in this area so I decided to use the seeding blanket method again to hold the seed in place and of course we have had no rain since! If your seed washes out while doing a lawn renovation, just keep it it. In the end your results will still turn out but sometimes it's just a bit more work.

I got luckily for a change. Seeded a few areas Friday covers with blanket gave it a good watering and Saturday night got a steady drizzle all night a little under 1/2”. Aerated Sunday and got some great plugs. Going to overseed that today

I'm serious man, try using just natural burlap. It is way cheaper, and it works wonders. They also make decomposable stakes that you can put in the ground. I have been using natural burlap all summer long to help grass grow in areas I have been having trouble with. It works absolutely amazing!

I prefer using the Scott's Handy Green spreader like you have for seed application. I don't worry about pre-measuring, just put enough in and use what you need. Good luck on the renovation. I'm sure the results will be positive.

Mazama is all the rage this year lol. Popular seed. I have had the opposite problem with my most recent seeding. No rain in two weeks, so totally controlled irrigation and no wash out. Great germination where I’ve seeded but I always feel like a nice gentle drizzling rain just doesn’t compare to an irrigation system. I’ve found a lot of light areas that the sprinklers aren’t reaching, and some lightly watered areas. But still I’m overall happy with the outcome. Hope this works out for you!

Used the blankets once and hated them. A year later they were still there and quite visible. I'm thinking a boulevard lime that needs sod.😁

Nice update. I laid a 70/30 mixture of tall fescue and perennial rye. It has been 10 days and the rye is germinating but how do I know the fescue is doing good?

Hi Ryan. I have a question about double cutting. On videos I'll see you cut your lawn one direction then go back over the lawn in another direction to create a different pattern. My question is if you lower the blades on the second cut? Thank you in advance, Joe Subler

That area is a prime candidate for a slit seeder. It also helps prevent wash outs when you use a slit seeder. You can even roll it afterwards. Works great.

For 400 sq ft it's more hassle for me to go rent one than it's worth. For larger areas that would be a good option

@@ryanknorrlawncare I "liberated" mine from my dad. It stays with me now. If you watch some of the for sale sites you can occasionally grab one on the cheap. It's a game changer for someone who constantly reseeds like yourself.

Hey Ryan- my neighbor killed off all his weeds and scalped them down. He has good soil that you can see now. Do you think he should aerate prior to adding top soil and seed? Is there any benefits over the cons? I see that you typically do not. He would be seeding with TTTF. I wanted to get another opinion of that for him other than mine. Thanks.

So KBG seed germinated way before 14 days? It seems like it germinated around 4-7 days like the rest of the other grass seeds.

The lowest setting can still be a bit heavy on bluegrass seed since it's so small

Hello Ryan. Enjoying and learning from your videos. Appreciation! I have a quick question if you have the time. I've dethatched and I'm aerating tomorrow. I've bought my sunny mix SS5000 from Super Seed Store to do my over seeding. I have Lesco starter fertilizer and I know you recommend waiting a few days before applying the starter fert so the growth of the existing turfgrass doesn't smother the germenation of the new seeding. I was thinking of putting down an application of Milo when I over seed and put down the Lesco starter fert maybe a week later. Your thoughts? Many thanks.

ah 0160 that’s a decent price, I pay a company $100 to aerate 7k sqft, but I use my own seed, generally most lawn companies seed has weed seed and crop seed

LoL Ryan! You are basically using the same thing as EZ straw using the blanket, but probably paying a lot more! EZ straw is mulched straw with tack. By the time you do your first mow, it’s already decomposed! I just did 1500 feet and its not quite ready to mow, but the straw is already decomposed! Sells for 12.99 a large bag and I get 800-900 feet a bag coverage.
