SPB155 takes it for me. It's the most versatile and has that X factor. The black date wheel, the bracelet, and the textured dial makes it the best choice. All of them are great though!
245 for me. The original design is what i like the most. Perfect reinterpretation of the 1959 classic. I really like it. Also the dial is not so busy as on the other models. I really really like it
I had gone to buy SPB155 but ended up buying SPB245.. 155 metallic strap watch dial looked a tad small. While the 245 dial seemed the perfect size, the depth of the green and its tone along with the sharp indices made me tilt towards the 245. Beautiful baby alpinists by Seiko. Just love this company and their efforts to keep making beautiful watches and offer them at such competitive prices.
All 3 have its own charm. For the latest l opted for the smaller version, so, now i have the perfect collection - 39.5, 38 and 36.6mm and they really look a lot different.
Check out the CREAM Version in 4K UHD: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Aijc591nvwU.html The new 1959 Alpinists are so HOT right now. I wasn't going to do the green but tons of emails and pressure from you guys so here it is. Something different...just a comparison video of the greens! Not a review. Which is the best Green Alp you can buy today??? Let me know what would you get? -Falling
The new 1959 in the Brown JDM , dump the strap. Plenty of nice 19mm straps out there. My choice but great looking in any color. The off white would be my close second choice. Totally agree on the caseback, where can one buy the solid back?
SPB155 is probably my favorite. The grained dial looks great and clean and not to mention it comes on a bracelet. Second would be the new Alpinist with that nice retro look.
I feel like I’m the only one who prefers the spb121j… idk there is something that shouts “unique” with the compass on it. I would not mind all three but the first one I would buy is the 121
This is the video I was looking for. I have the blue baby alpinist and have been meaning to get the green alpinist with the outer dial. Then I saw the SPB245. Wow.
Just bought the SPB245. I kind of wanted the Version with the outer dial for a couple of years now but never actually bought it. Then the SPB245 was released and i knew that this is going to be my alpinist. I like that there are 3 different models now so everyone can choose his favourite design.
Bought the 245 and put in a 20mm parachute strap. Wears great! Beautiful watch Thought about the baby alpinist but the printed indices look like it won't age well
Oh man, great video. Why did I miss it? Probably because I'm really in the race now for picking 1 of the 3 up. My favorite is probably the SPB155J1. I love the dial and is probably the most versatile to wear. Thanks and greetings, Hans Peter
I think FT said the SARB017 case back fits all 3. I hope so as I just picked up the new spb245 (grey dial) and I have a 017 lying around that I don’t wear. I think swapping the case back would be a big improvement
The texture dial wins for sure. Why did they go with a white date wheel on the most recent one ugh. Also agree with you , why put a display case back for a work horse movement....
I'm with you on this one. If they could do it on the SARB033, why not this? If I had stacks of cash and absolutely needed to get an Alpinist, I'd go for the 1959 limited edition though
@@rudy_ariff not just the 033 but look at the baby Alpinist...they marched the date wheel better on that one yet made the newer one white?!? I agree the re issue is the best but $$$
I like the 121 which I own. I really like the rotating compass and I think it just looks great. The dial really sparkles and of course it’s a throw back to the classic Alpinist
I like the Seiko SP 121 Alpinist . It screams quality. It looks Rolex date just in Quality. So for a total of $650, I got a watch that screams quality . The other Alpinist do not have the look.
If the baby alpinist had the raised gold indices like the original alpinist, I'd prefer that. It would be like a more premium specced SRPE45J1 (minus the unique dial)
Of these three I would have a tough choice between the new one and the no compass version just above the compass version as I prefer the domed crystal. I don't mind the display case back giving a view of the workhorse movement. It's great to see them all side by side giving a view that even though the sizes are similar the look can be very different.
Love your video! Do you think the SPB121 semi buckle strap would fit on my 20-21cm wrist? I’m thinking to buy one but a little concern about this. Thanks a lot in advance.
Not sure why the green new alpinist doesn’t come with a bracelet but the beige colour one does, I feel like that should have come with a brown leather strap and the green a bracelet!?
Thanks for this video I am actually torn between the recreation alpinist spb243 or the brown alpinist spb209. Both are great and I don’t know what to choose.
Love the new one! But I'm so mad about that 19mm lugs I could scream! Why on earth do they do that? 1mm wider lugs is NOT going to mess up the case design!
Great, I've been looking forward to a video of the green one... Damn, now I am torn again between the green and the grey. Wait what, 19mm strap/bracelet? You can't be serious Seiko...
The 245 all the way! The SPB's with their dreadful cathedral handsets and HIDEOUS cyclops (thanks Rolex!) are just............AWFUL. Love the newer movement. Just purchased one today from Japan, can't wait to wear this baby!!! Great vid.
I have the 017 Alpinist(on aftermarket strapcode bracelet. I like the 021 but my one big gripe was it does not have a color matched date-wheel and did not care for the magnifier either. The SPB245 looks great. And I agree with the no need for a display case back(thinner would be better). The 6R movement is nothing much to look at(looks blah like 4R movements)….thanks for the great review!
I think Namokis slim skx case could fit but water resistance goes down to about 50m with it. Or at least thats all they tested it too. 60m actually but they rate it at 50m
I think of the 155 as a watch thatmight have come out of the Arts & Crafts heritage, if they had been making wristwatches then. I have one and love it.
I’m jealous of those who has small wrists 😅 Tried 121 at my AD yesterday on my 7inch flat wrist, felt way too small. Can you suggest some alternate model, preferably green dial. Currently leaning towards Sumo Hulk.
That's how companies do it when it's a deployant clasp. The outside of your wrist looks cleaner in a dressy formal occasion as the end of the strap is on the inside of your wrist.
I'm still not ready for green. I went with the SPB117J1. Black dial with sharks teeth. Wanted the cathedral hour hand, cyclops, and compass ring. Wear it with a leather strap. My smallest recently acquired watch. Actually I like the SPB117J1 case better than the new one. I'm not ready for the 'even number only' thing yet either, on some of these watches. The green dials do look good, just not for me yet. Maybe one day.
Also, wanted to say this was a creative way to review the new 1959 green dial since you mentioned you didn't want to be repetitive from the previous two versions. Very compelling and really got me considering these as a possible collection... Good stuff.
@@NickCheng93 Well I decided to buy the 155, but it's sold out everywhere in my country and no restock. I lost my interest to the 245 somehow, maybe because I have a Visodate and it's a bit/relatively similar or maybe the odd lug width and too round case. Anyway, I still prefer the 155.
@@firmasyahrian2483 nice, that’s the one I was leaning towards so I’m happy you validated that choice. Either way I need to save some money at the moment but it’s nice to have this one on as a goal!
I think one of the reasons the sarb series were liked so much, is that they didn’t have any sub branding on the dials Why they need to have the X is beyond me. Perhaps it’s just a way to blemish their own watches so the quest for searching continues
Some months ago,I went to check and eventually buy an alpinist .sadly the shop had all 3 variants available. I got confused, I liked all of them equally. Eventually I got another diver(willard) and still can't decide which of the 3 I like the most.all have character and pros and cons. I might end up with the glacier blue 💙 but not sure enough yet.the owner suggested I should get all of them obviously ,different color each.i laughed.cant afford to spend 2 grand on the same watch.
