Uemura wore a 6105-8000 when he soloed to the North Pole. The story goes he was wearing a Rolex Explorer but because of how cold the steel bracelet got he was worried about getting frostbite. He strapped it to his belt but because of the cold (without his body heat to keep it warm) the watch stopped working. At a resupply checkpoint a Japanese journalist that was covering his adventure swapped his 6105 (on rubber strap) for Uemura’s Rolex and Uemura wore it the rest of the way to the North Pole and back. When they got back to Japan, the journalist offered to swap back, but Uemura told him to keep the Rolex and he kept the Seiko. There is one photo of Uemura wearing a 6105, ironically on a bracelet. Uemura was wearing a different Seiko diver when he summited Everest.
Seiko is the best. Grand seiko and diver seiko on my opinion are watch awesome that a swiss watchmaker not may beat. Rolex, patek omega ec ec. All are under the epic seiko affidability.
I really want one of those. The SLA watches are so much nicer than the sbdc or spb line if watches. The 8L35 is a super nice movement as well. I think at $3000 it is the best in the price range. Great in house movement. Awesome finishing. Original design. You can’t really beat it at that price. And i’ve never seen an SLA watch with qc problems.
Just picked mine up for £1500! I can’t believe it. It arrives on Friday and I’m so excited to have such a good watch in my collection. Probably the best watch I’ll ever have, given that’s the most I’ll ever spend on a watch.
Really love this one especially the uninterrupted hour markers. And you can fly under the radar. People will look at your wrist and its "only" Seiko instead of screaming Tudor. It just it should on par with COSC and not SW200 in term of accuracy.
Gorgeous! My Willard felt a little small after a Turtle (used to it now & love it tho). Do like the date on this, tho all watches would be infinitely better without one. Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
I personally been waiting, when will seiko be putting their spring drive movement into one of these Willards. They have done these on LX, so it's possible. I just think it's more worth spending premium on Seiko with the higher end spring drive.
That watch is stunning. But that bracelet…why can’t Seiko make a decent bracelet? The bracelet should be the same quality as the watch at that price point!
I own a Willard which I love. The 6r35 runs about two minutes fast per week. My wrist is 7.25" and it fits me perfectly. I also bought it for under a $1,000. Although 8L movement and limited edition, this one seems a bit on the expensive side. Another ocd thing for me is no signed crown? Far lesser brands do it on almost every model. Why won't Seiko? One more complaint...the bracelet. Seiko can do much better. Frustrating... anyway, beautiful watch, but maybe a tad big for me. As always, great video Rob. Love the Submariner comparison. 👍
It s possible that seiko is the best to made a diver wacht of high quality? Some say rolex is best with submariner. Or omega planetocean. Today is not easy in the midle of so many brands to understand what is it the best. I have bought in my life rolex omega diver e many other swiss brands. Seiko diver is in my collection for many years and today i go in boutique seiko italy where i buy that i think is the best diver wacht in the world. Ecxuse me if my english language is not very good. I live in italy Verona and seiko diver is present in my private collection e will be for me the best forever. Thanks. Paolo.68
If seiko diver wacht is the best professional maybe a question more interesting to explore in afficionates collectors. It sure that rolex or omega have a retage of great affidability. Swiss watchmaker against japanese. Who is the best? I repertorio that is a question very difficolt to say in a world where many brands e collectors think as the swiss wacht is the best in the world. My experience in many years of diver work in lake of Garda italy say another story more different. To say that I wear a seiko prospettive for many years in my job as sub in Garda lake Verona italy. I may say with all my heart that seiko is the best watch diver in the world. I have wear rolex submariner in many works under water as sub. Omega too. But problem of affidability has raised more time. But seiko is indistruttible. Nothing i have fondamentali in it that make problem o difficult in my job as sub in Garda lake. Never broke. Seiko i think is the best diver wacht. I have no doubt about. Excuse me for my english language not very god. I live in italy Verona and my job is sub control of infrastructure under water Garda lake. My seiko diver rate 200 mt has gone without broke under more of 200 meters when I have a job at Malcesine in sub under water at 300 meters. But my seiko has go back on lana intanct and perfectly runing. I have no doubt...seiko is the best diver watch in the world.
This thing is not small, and if you cant handle it, maybe you have small balls. God, that submariner screams “look at me I’m pretty” whereas that Seiko’s beauty is a mystery, takes time to appreciate it and realize how awesome it is including the history of the usage of the original. And that bracelet is the classiest of seikos, the spb line has a thicker bracelet and the mm300s are abnormal in sizes
You can pull it off Rob because you have pretty meaty arms and Jeff McMahon could wear it, but a leaner more athletic male won't. Why would anybody want this behemoth on their wrist? The standard Willard is so much better. Agree the refinement of this watch is nice however but definitely for a plus 200 lb male.
Many people say these are planting on their wrist much better than Marine Masters and Swiss watches with smaller listed dimensions…. I bet you’ve never actually put this on…Just go read RU-vid comments sections about people raving how comfortable it sits on the wrist.
Wrong….As this inflated jewelry bubble pops it’s actually these Seiko limited edition SLA series that are holding value and even going up on certain ones vs Rolex’s crashing hard….
I'm sorry but another ridiculously overpriced regular seiko. Seiko says we'll put a limited edition sticker on it and we can charge 3 times the price. This is really turning me off from Seiko I understand Grand Seiko price because the finishing and the very high end movements but these regular Seikos are not worth what they're charging and if they're doing it just because they're limited editions it's really wrong.
I'd agree with you that Seiko is charging too much for their 6r movement watches, but this one has an 8L35 movement, so it is certainly not an "ordinary" Seiko.
Same price (in UK at least) as the MM300, which has the same movement. Hard to tell from a video if the Willard finishing is on par with one, plus the MM300 has the higher depth rating, monoblock case and ratcheting bracelet.
Hi communist. Everyone who says "Anything should cost ..." is so unaware of how market works. Such stupid statement can be translated only one way: "I wish it cost less because this way I can't afford it.". Only the producer (Seiko here) is responsible for their pricing strategy which means they run their business and believe me, they want to sell the watches and maximize profit. They aren't stupid. Why would they price this SLA049J1 lower, when they sell the limited 1200 pcs. amount easily? Every single buyer votes with his money. Everyone else just cries nonsense out.
@@Jerry-67 $2000 to go from 21600 to 28800 is not worth it in my opinion. The difference in price between a Miyota 8 series and a 9 series is like $100. This 8L is rated -10/+15. The premium for the Oris Cal 400 is less than this and that boasts a 10yr service interval, >twice the power reserve, and is rated to -3/+5. If you’re paying $2k extra for a watch you should get more than a bump in vph.
