SELF-DISCOVERY in Advaita Vedanta: Story of "The Confused Lion"

This traditional Vedantic parable tells the story of a lion cub who grew up in a herd of sheep, believing that he, too, was a sheep. Just like the lion failed to recognize his true nature as king of the jungle, we fail to recognize our true nature as unborn, limitless consciousness. The solution to the lion's problem, and ours, is revealed in this delightful story.
The divinity within you, called atma, is ever-present, yet unrecognized due to ignorance (avidya, ajnana). The teaching of of the rishis, the sages of ancient India. can lead you to discover atma as sat chit ananda, unborn, limitless consciousness, and gain moksha, enlightenment.
Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: www.arshabodha...

Excellent! Swāmiji said somewhere that“ teaching is not telling!” He said, teaching means to create a conducive situation where a student can not help but discover what you want them to discover. The teaching here is truly leading to contemplation. Pranāms!

I was struggling with my mindset, constantly shifting from a state of bliss to a state of wordly mess. I wondered what is the reason for such constant shifting, why am I not able to be in a permanent state of bliss and then RU-vid recommends me this video.😃

The last part of the story is not a part of the original vedanta story yet it enlightened me on how to deal with the worldly suffering and know the ultimate truth, however this might take many births

Your pronunciation and explanation is mind blowing. Yes indeed due to ignorance we fail to know about are real nature. If we all know about our self then the world would have been different.

Vedantha(teachings) TELLS the truth, Gurus (Self realized lion) SHOWS the truth. That's why guru is very important. If we are really serious in our search, Guru will definitely come and show the truth - My guru Ramana Maharshi, I'm waiting for him.

This is such an eye-opening story. Have heard it before but not so effectively presented as a cartoon video with nice music and the explanation with right pause. Thanks Swamiji🙏 as a habit like seeing mirror, perhaps we need to see this video often to remember our true divinity and shirk the habit of false-identity!

Knowledge is important but knowledge is not sufficient. Self-realization is important more than knowledge. In other words, only theoretical knowledge is not sufficient. We need its practical knowledge also. We should translate knowledge into practice.

Are we not conditioning the mind of a loin?? Why does an infinite mind needs help to realise its power??

Do people wonder why they are Sheep, euphemistically? This video describes the origin of becoming sheep.
@janetownley
@janetownley Год назад
I don’t think that was the point at all. It could have been any type of animal that the orphaned lion joined and became identified with. And there’s nothing inherently bad about sheep, of course.

I love your teachings, and don’t want to say you are wrong but my experience doesn't jive with this. Once you know who you are, your true self, whatever habits continue don’t matter because you know that’s not you. We don’t discover we are a different type of creature, we discover we are not a creature at all. There is no way to manifest our true nature other than perhaps silence and stillness with a peaceful heart. The teachings (any teachings) don’t show or reveal anything, they are abandoned along with all other maps. The teachings are a way to use the mind and body in order to allow our true nature to be discovered and it occurs on its own when we stop insisting we are a individual ego only. Now I totally get how at different levels different stories are helpful to make points, help get unstuck, and offer encouragement. I just thought I would add my two cents.
