Self Driving 2022 Ford F150 Raptor using Comma 3x with Sunny Pilot 

Nice! I was wondering if this would work on our Bronco Raptor too. But haven’t really looked into that. The MADS is interesting. I try to at first and hated it. So I shut it off. Then I turned it back on and changed a few settings and it is actually pretty cool now. It was fighting me when you turn a 90° corner. It kept wanting to keep turning. Under “Customize MADS” (in the sunnypilot tab) I left “Remain active” on under “steering mode after braking”. Then under “customize lane change” I turned on “pause lateral below speed w/blinker”. That one was the key. So now going slow like making a turn onto a side street per se, it basically temporarily stops steering. Which made it much more usable.

Thanks! So the radar detector mount was just a cheap on off Amazon. Search for something like Uniden R7/R8 adhesive mount. Only bummer is I have it mounted so high that the gps in it is blocked. Need to redo it a little lower.

Good question! And reminds me that I totally forgot to mention that. It does “talk” to the Ford system to an extent. If you try to change lanes and the Ford Blis (blind spot) monitor senses a vehicle next to you, it’ll beep and not change lanes. But it doesn’t use the 360 cameras, but Ford doesn’t use them for BlueCruise (to my knowledge anyway).

Howdy. So yeah the lane keeping on the gen3 is kind of ok. Much better than the gen2, but no match to something like Tesla has. But the Comma is pretty amazing. Some guys on the F150 forum say that this is way better than Blue cruise and probably 95% of Tesla AP. And that was a few months ago. The Sunny Pilot software on this is advancing every month or so. I look forward to long road trips now with this. As for radar detectors, I’m running the R8. Have an R7 (as does my wife). After having the R8 for a while, I don’t think it’s worth upgrading from the R7. Yeah it’s probably a little better and has some nice features, but the R7 is still a sweet unit. Think there was a firmware update for it last week too. But yeah, it might get a little cramped with a Blendmount and Comma below the rear view mirror.

@@paulrogers945 Thanks. What mount are you using for the R8? (That was my main question, buried in a verbose response). Also, do you use the Comma as a dash cam, or just for autopilot functionality? I have a VIOFO A229 Pro mounted and hardwired, but perhaps this could replace that if the dash cam is high quality.

@@robocashhey yeah sorry I got on a random tangent too lol. So the R8 mount is just a cheap metal bracket with double sided VHB that I got off Amazon. Nice and small, but seems to block the gps in the detector which sucks. But might also partially be because of how high I have it. I haven’t really used this as a dashcam. I think there’s a way to do it, but I’m running a Thinkware U1000 that’s behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side that’s nice and hidden. I do have the Comma connected to my Starlinks WiFi, and it constantly uploads the dashcam video from it. Not real high quality like the Thinkware, but it’s nice to have another copy I guess. That being said, I don’t see the Comma being a replacement for a good dashcam at this point. Oh, and looks like I replied under my other account last time. Gosh I’m such a newb.

Yes sir! I’d love to do that. I need to think of some fun stuff to do with them all. Have a Bronco Raptor in the fleet with a Ranger Raptor being built today actually. 👍🏼

@SwarfWorks that's one dream of a fleet brother! 👌. I hope to have one similar in the near future. Which one is your favorite? I am also curious on your thought process of having these specific vehicles? you don't seem like a guy that would just aimlessly purchase these just because you can.

Wow no I haven’t see it do that. If it senses you’re distracted (ie looking down for a few seconds) it’ll alert you on the Comma screen and on the Ford cluster. I’m not sure what happens if you keep ignoring it. My guess is that it will hit the brakes to try to get your attention. But that is the Ford side of things doing that. The comma is just telling the Ford side to do that. So I’m guessing I could research what the Ford system would do if you pushed it that far.

I haven’t had that issue with the headrests. But yeah the seat cusion bottoms seem to last about 40k miles before their flat. And I ain’t that fat. But this ‘22 seems to be doing much better at 50k miles.

Howdy. So it has really 3 cameras. A wide angle forward facing camera, a more telephoto (zoom/narrow angle) front camera and an infrared driver facing camera to monitor the drivers attention.
